I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 10 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success!
Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subjects can be attribute
d to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess a student's shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.
I will provide you with the skills and understanding you need to feel confident in Microsoft Excel. First I'll go over the elements and menu basics. Then we'll practice formatting cells, using formulas, inserting rows and columns, creating graphs, exporting to .csv files, importing .csv files, and creating practical documents like budgets and inventories. Along the way, I'll show you some formatting shortcuts to save time creating functional, yet attractive spreadsheets.
I am a graduate of UC San Diego (bachelor of arts, sociology) and UCLA (master of public policy). As a child of immigrant parents, I value diversity and love learning languages. I read, write and speak Spanish fluently, and have intermediate command of both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese in reading, writing, and speech.
Photography has been one of my main areas of focus for over ten years. I am trained in both film and digital formats and specialize in demystifying the DSLR so that you gain a good understanding of manual settings and how to use each to improve your photos.
Caring, compassion, and understanding are essential for learning and I strive to do my best in these areas.

I've been sewing since I was 13. I've sewn things over the years such as dresses, pajamas. I do a lot of tailoring things too. I just love to sew, and I love teaching people to sew too!
The way that I teach is to help the student develop their own style. I have students work on their own individual projects that they pick out while asking me questions that they might have while they are doing their project.
However, if they would like there is an option for me to develop lessons for the student on certain sewing techniques that the student could learn. Although, be aware that learning how to sew takes time and that all the techniques of sewing cannot be done all at once.
Then, there is the third option that the lesson could be a mix of the student doing what they want (choosing their own project) and learning some pre-designed
My first goal is to give my students all of the tools they need to feel confident from the very first lesson. I would like for all of my students within the first lesson to finish either of two basic projects (pajama pants or a draw string bag).
My lessons are not like videos you may find online. Meaning projects will take longer than you think they will. I will work with you to properly construct a quality finished project without too many frustrations and in a timely manner. I recommend buying lessons in 90 minute packages, since sewing always takes longer than expected.

I am a freelance Microsoft Excel consultant. Last year I started my own freelancing Excel consulting company and haven't looked back since.
I graduated from Minnesota State University-Moorhead with a B.S. in Business Management. This is where my love for Microsoft Excel began. I started with building linear programming models and after 20 years, I have created some beautiful and time saving programs for individuals and business alike.
In addition to my passion for teaching Excel, I am also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. I have been teaching adults and kids martial arts for 5 years now. So between spreadsheets and Jiu-Jitsu, I have found my calling in life.
I used Excel since 2012! I used it for University courses. I used it for work at TD Bank. I used it for work at Ministry of Finance. I used it for more work at a small solar panel company and i use it now as part of running my own business. I know it very well! And i tough it to many people i worked with.
(by the way, i'm writing this assuming addressing the person that i will work with, if you're a parent or somebody else reading this, please imagine you were the one that needs this service).
So in the previous section i think i described myself pretty thoroughly. I will use this section to let you know what you can expect from me, so you have a better idea of who i am and what i can do for you.
I will focus on YOUR needs
What does that mean? I remember when i was learning English and they were teaching me a lot of irrelevant stuff. I learned things like: " Sally likes apples and Bob likes cakes" It's all nice, but what i really wanted to know was what to say to a teacher when i want to go to the washroom. But nobody ever asked me what i want to learn, they just told me what i should learn. And that's fine, there is a plac
e for practicing things like "Sally likes apples", but if you have an area where you want to improve in. Tell me and we'll practice. We can roleplay! I will ask you questions and you will try to answer as best you can and i will correct you. I will talk with you in English like i would talk to a friend (like my friend did to me when i was learning English) and you will pick it up much faster! I will go as slow or as fast as you can handle. You can tell me about your day. Or ask questions. We will try a few things and find what works for you!
I am a fan of compound learning.
What does that mean? Here is an example! We can learn what the words: apple. Juice. I. Want. are individually. ORRRR we can learn a sentence of: I want apple juice. Instead of trying to make your brain remember 4 objects separately, you will only have to remember 1 object that contains all of those smaller objects. That speeds up learning a lot. Of course, it depends on your level. And we will start with the very basic stuff. But as soon as you get the basics, we will move on to this. And before you know it, you will start speaking in complete sentences. And once you speak, you will read, write and be on your way to think in English.
I will be patient with you!
I will go at the speed that you can handle. There will be homework too!
Igor would do great with anyone! I am a friend of his grandma(my mother is in the same ESL class as she is) and he is so patient with her! I saw the progress she made myself in just a few short months! He is friendly, really nice and i'm sure will do great!
"My Excel lesson with Liz was custom-tailored to my requests and I found our time well spent and informative. I was able to ask questions, explore specifi
c areas and came away with a better knowledge of how to accomplish my goals in Excel. The TakeLessons experience was a great value!"
"This was my first lesson and I will be back.I am an older learner and too old to have learned computers in school since typewriters were the in thing. So
as a middle aged professional everything I know has been self taught. Jason showed me things I never knew existed.I told him "I feel like a kid again".He is patient and allows for you to ask questions. If you were intimidated or scared to get started...he is the right tutor.I highly recommend Jason."
"I have only had one lesson, but it was great. Cindy is very nice and easy to follow. Very detailed. Looking forward to the next one!"
"Stellar Instructor --- Very knowledgeable and able to provide clear instructions. Makes learning an ease!"
"Matthew is an excellent teacher. He's got the skill and patience to get the material across in a very clear way. I absorbed the material easily even thoug
h I was pretty new to this."
"Jean-Marc really helped me grow my skill using excel and showed me the potential that this product has. Throughout the learning experience he was very pat
ient with me and tailored his lessons to strengthening my weaknesses in the product. Before learning with Jean-Marc I didn't even know much about formulas. Now I feel very confident with the work that I do in Excel. I will be taking another class from him."
"Learned a lot.
Now to practice.
Very easy to understand, patient."
