I am passionate about Music and Music Education. It's rewarding for me to watch my students develop in their musical skill and enjoy making music more and more. My students range from the very young (5 years old) to school age children, to teens, and adults. My students benefit from my expertise in teaching Vocal and Piano music, my knowledge of Music Theory, and my encouraging teaching style. I have been involved in making music since I was a young child, and I have been teaching private students since I was a Music major at the University of Florida in 1982 when a fellow college student asked me to teach her voice lessons. I have a Music Education degree from the University of Florida; my major instrument was Voice, my minor was Piano. I taught as a public school music educator in Florida, California, and Tennessee between the years
of 1983 to 1997. I taught private students after school in my classroom while I was a public school teacher, and from my home since 1997. My post-graduate continuing professional education includes Tennessee Arts Academy at Belmont University, Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1 (vocal teaching techniques, do-re-mi, ear training), Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification, Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Piano Lab certification. My professionalism and expertise are at your service. I will work together with you to insure an enjoyable and informative learning experience.
*** Lesson Details *** A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.
For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.
In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.
For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.
My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential. After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide three Studio Class performances (February, June, October) and one recital opportunity (December) a year. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.
*** Studio Equipment *** PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.
SINGING lessons in Recording Studio: keyboard, recording equipment, desk, 2 chairs, music stand, microphone, private room. Parents may wait in adjacent rec room or sit in on lesson.
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide lesson books, the students should provide their instrument.
I do have a mobile keyboard to bring for SINGING lessons.
*** Specialties *** Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1
Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification
Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Lab certified instructor
To start piano lessons when you're 72 was challenging. But Julie is so amazing that it has been the one of best things I've done. She's just great. She's happy and her lessons carry over that happiness. I'll never be her best student but she makes you feel like you are. I look forward to seeing her each week.

I am a Certified Interpreter in five languages with the US Defense Language Institute Monterrey, California.
English is my third language but I didn’t stop here. I taught my mother and so many others tips on how to learn this language faster.
If you speak a Romantic language, even better; I’ll find “anchors” to help you connect the dots and allow you to find English words faster. If your native language is not among the Romantic ones, don’t despair (though my assumption is that you stopped reading by now). Mentors are critical, and I’ll teach you ways to find balance, consistency, and discipline in learning English as a Second Language.
Before reading about me, I'd like to share up front the honor that my newest student, R., has brought to me by choosing to learn Romanian. Nothing special so far except that he is 100 years old!!!! Yes, you read that correctly: a century old. He is the outmost inspiring person in my life by teaching me that age is just a number and that learning can happen any day if we choose so. R is a medical doctor, a psychologist, a chemist and biologist. Words can't even define how great of a man he is and how grateful I am to learn from him, too. For instance, about a famous language called "esperanto", a language created in the late 19th century.
I'm an enthusiastic learner even after 19 years of formal education (two Masters, one Bachelor) earned on two continents continued by US military education in various forms, and formally tested studen
t who needed to document skills that were not formally captured on paper (like the foreign languages I know).
I love interacting with people and pass on my knowledge from five visited continents, instill love for learning and continuous curiosity for any subject out there. Nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Failing once doesn't mean that you'll never win (proof in my athletic years and life ever since); determination, hard work, self-motivation and a good supporting system can bring to reality even the most insignificant dreams that we believe may not come true, and especially those in which we passionately trust.
I believe in breaking down a goal into objectives, assigning tasks to each one of them, and then sticking to achieve them.
I'm a Certified Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. My hobbies include practicing foreign languages (and proper grammar rules which highly reflect on one's education) by speaking them, learning about cultures and slangs, etymology, watching foreign movies, traveling internationally, taking photos, reading (a lot), carefully planning with room for error and impulsive decisions (to take the boredom out of things), meeting with life long friends, drawing, painting, and spending time outdoors for inspiration and health.
I'm elated at the opportunity of brainstorming with you and giving you tools to be an independent learner.
Are you having trouble mastering the English language? I am a certified TESOL teacher and have been teaching ESL all over the world since 2010. I teach all levels from beginner to advanced and all ages from 8 to 88. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree in linguistics and can speak several foreign languages myself, so I know where language learners are coming from and can explain how to break down the language so that it's not quite so hard to learn! I look forward to helping you to perfect your English skills!
Are you looking to brush up your English skills or try your hand at learning French or German? I would be delighted to help you find your way in navigating these tricky languages.
Allow me to tell you about myself. I am a certified and experienced ESL teacher who has traveled the globe and shared her skills abroad. I have a bachelor's degree in linguistics from Boston University and a master's degree in the same from the Free University in Berlin, Germany. I obtained my TESOL certificate from ITTT in 2010 while I was volunteering in a refugee English class in Denver. The following year I taught ESL to foreign boarding students at a high school in Maine. While living in Germany I taught adult English classes at public community colleges and children's English classes at an after school club, as well as giving multiple private lessons. A
dditionally, I taught ESL to both children and adults at a private school in Switzerland. I have also volunteer taught at English camps for refugee adults and children in Lebanon. Like I said, I've been privileged to offer my skills all over the globe!
I speak both French and German fluently and can teach in these languages if need be, but mostly, having studied linguistics and other languages such as Russian and Arabic, I understand what it's like to be a foreign language learner. I studied the construction of languages and can easily break them down into their parts so that they are easier to wrap your head around.
My skills are not limited to teaching English only, but I am also an experienced proofreader and editor. I have edited myriad documents not only for private individuals but also in the academic and professional sectors. So if you need help with writing or are looking for someone to proofread your written works, I would be happy to offer this service.
Finally, as previously mentioned, I speak both French and German fluently and am happy to help beginner and intermediate learners to acquire these languages. Or if you just want someone to practice your skills with I can serve as your conversational partner! I love giving private lessons because that way I can connect with each student individually and tailor the lesson especially to meet his or her needs!
I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your linguistic way!
Work on your English in a safe, playful environment. No matter your level, we'll start with your language goals and work from there. I'm a certified TESOL instructor and I have a master's degree in Medieval History.
I'm skilled in academic and professional writing and also have experience working with complete beginners.
With consistent practice we can achieve anything together!
I believe that to learn a language it's important to feel safe and relaxed. If we build a positive relationship together, we'll be on our way to achieving your goals. I promise to work as hard as you do!
I started teaching English while I was living in London for my Master's degree in Medieval History. I met people from all over the world and fell in love with the cultural exchange that comes with teaching a language.
I have a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from DePaul University. I am also a volunteer English instructor at St. Joseph Services in Humboldt Park.
I live in Ukrainian Village with my husband and two cats, Tommy and Luna. If you chose to come to my apartment for lessons, you'll be able to meet them!
My goal is to create a safe, judgement free environment for my students to learn in
. I've worked hard to learn other languages myself (Spanish, German, and I'm working on Polish!), so I know how frustrating it can sometimes be to express yourself in another language. Teaching one on one is a collaborative effort and I will work hard to find a teaching style that is tailored to you.
Amy is a great english teacher! She is the best you can ask for. Very professional and at the same time caring for her students. Had the pleasure to have lessons with her in London while studying there. She will teach you according to your level and needs. Recommend her 100%
