I have studied, performed and taught music for over 30 years. Accordion was my first instrument at age 7 which was a great introduction to the keyboard, melody and harmony. That was followed by guitar and other stringed instruments (Banjo, Ukulele) as well as drums. I studied with great teachers

Ukulele lessons are incorporated into my instruction practice as ukulele is traditionally easier than guitar for inexperienced players. It’s a smaller body, neck, and fretboard, and has nylon strings instead of steel strings. It will help the student develop confidence in their playing to songs that inspire them. So I signed up for lessons with Steve. I took piano lessons from Steve for about 18 months. I moved about an hour away, so it was not practical to continue with him.
The lessons from Steve were exactly what I was looking for. He figured out my skill level and set up a plan for me. He stressed the fundamentals while teaching a song at the same time. Being able to play a song, even a simple one, was a great reward. Then we progressed to develop more skills and more interesting songs.
Steve is patient, attentive and a good coach. He genuinely loves teaching and finds that “spark” in to build on. I saw this many times as I would listen to him teaching the student before me.
Steve is a great teacher and I strongly recommend him.

I start many children ukulele initially, whose hands and bodies are too small to begin guitar. We can build on their knowledge and musical journey keeping both instruments in mind (not necessary however) as they grow and mature into guitar. Best to "Ask a Question" via email to get our process started.

It is my goal as a teacher to give you the tools to play music but more importantly to create music.
My Teaching Philosophy
The Uke is a wonderful instrument that any style of music can be played on. From pop hits of today to pop hits of the 1920's, classical, jazz and beyond.
We will start by learning all of our chords, strum patterns as well as basic melodies. Then progress into finger picking and "claw-hammer" style of uke playing.
Left Hand-
Scales and arpeggios our the bedrock of music. They are the foundation of everything harmonically and melodically. We will begin with learning our major, minor and pentatonic scales and corresponding arpeggios. Once we have an understanding of those we will delve into our modes and more “exotic” scales.
Right Hand-
The right hand is our time machine. It gives us the ability to play in time and with groove and feel. We will work on rhythmic studies string crossings and practicing with a metronome. Remembering music is ...
