Learn classical technique and repertoire on the violin!

About Maria

I am happy to be expanding my Nashville studio, which provides both violin/fiddle and viola lessons. I have been playing violin for 21 years, viola for 13, and teaching both for 10 years. After earning a violin performance degree (summa cum laude) from Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship, I moved to Nashville to pursue both teaching and performing. My teaching style varies from student to student, depending on what one is interested in learning. For violin and viola students, the focus is on technique and classical repertoire, with the option of studying through the Suzuki method. For fiddle students, I emphasize the study of improvisation, accompaniment ideas and tunes. I am able to do in-home lessons, or students are welcome to come to my studio. Please contact me with any ...

I took cello lessons from Rachel for several years. Although I had played piano as a child, I had not attempted to play a musical instrument for over forty years. Rachel was able to explain the instrument to me, and was very patient and encouraging. Her musical knowledge is extensive and she truly enjoys teaching. I highly recommend her as a teacher of any stringed instrument.

Rachel is an excellent teacher. I started with her when I was 57 years old and have taken lessons for over 5 1/2 years. This is the first instrument I have ever played. Rachel is extremely patient and very attentive to details. She is extremely knowledgeable academically and has a lifetime of performance experience. Any student young or old would be proud to have her as their teacher.

Introduction to Violin Music Notes
The violin is often considered by musicians to be one of the most challenging instruments to learn. Its roots trace back many centuries and it was clearly a definitive instrument in shaping classical music all over the world. One of the reasons it is considered a difficult instrument to learn is that it's a fretless string instrument, making violin music notes appear to be inexact, yet fingering must still be done with precision. The reward for learning this sweet-sounding elegant instrument, ho

So do the children themselves. All groups want the child to be successful. But not all of them measure success in the same way. When children, parents, and teachers disagree on what it means to be su
