Michael P.

Boston, MA

Where trombone is my specialty, trumpet is quite similar to trombone requiring the same fundamentals of tone quality, range, articulation and music theory. I would work best with somebody still working on technique, repertoire, and will encourage the learning of improvisation (not necessarily jazz!).

About Michael

Hi there! I'm Michael and I recently graduated from New England Conservatory (NEC) with my BFA in Jazz Performance on trombone while also completing NEC's Music-In-Education (MIE) Concentration.

I'm currently an active trombonist in the Boston music scene having played with a wide variety of groups at many of Boston's top venues. I also enjoy curating and producing music events and festivals! But most importantly, I love to teach (that's why you're here, right?)!

Working with people and watching them grow brings me a lot of joy. A recent highlight was hosting my first recital for my stu
dents at my private studio-- it was a really special evening and am excited for more!

Feel free to e-mail at mprentky@gmail.com or call me at 617-827-7378. I'd love to chat!

*** Lesson Details ***
The number one tenant is to have fun! I offer a relaxed, but hard-working environment while keeping the lessons easy-going, stimulating, and educational. My job is to challenge you, make your "brain sweat," and to keep you engaged. I'm flexible and very sensitive to your needs.

Michael is an excellent teacher. For the first time in years, my 11 years old son is looking forward the his trombone lessons! Not only he's making lots of progress, he also loves the fact that Michael is always open to play the music that he likes and that they improvise a lot, which makes it so much more fun playing.
Michael is also very easy to get in touch with and very accommodating if a change in schedule is needed.
Super easy going, highly recommended.

My daughter is learning so much from Michael. She started out having no idea how to play any brass instrument. She's now been taking lessons with Michael for 4 months and is making great progress. He's a fantastic teacher and also very reliable and communicative around scheduling issues. Highly recommended.

My 14-year-old loves his lessons with Michael. Michael makes learning the trumpet fun because because they play the music my son is interested in learning. We no longer fight when it's time to practice.

In January 2014, Danilo was invited as a guest artist and educator at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul where he taught and performed for young afghan music students.

Danilo considers his success as a performer to be in a direct relationship with the success of his teaching and he aims to spread to the joy of music making and appreciation as wide as possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is relaxed and supportive while always aiming to increase the knowledge of the student. My strong technical background combined with a deep sense for wide-ranging musical styles allows me to find what inspires a student initially and use their interests and strengths to lead them to new discovery and technical efficiency.

While I hope to facilitate a passion for making music in my students in any way possible, I continue to relate their training to body awareness and building good playing habits.

While each individual learns at a different pace, I strive to point out the progress my students have made because I find this recognition of achievement, no matter how small, is essential in a student's continued love of studying music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
lessons in dedicated music room with all instruments and equipment; upright piano, drum set and percussion.

Danilo is the Best

Danilo is enthusiastic and fun. My son likes him very much and is learning a great deal. He enjoys his lessons. I think Danilo is a great match for my son - this is why I drive for one hour to get to the lessons and up to two and a half hours to get back home. (Traffic).
Danilo is a great teacher and very talented musician!! I'm thrilled we found him!

Danilo has not only taught my son trumpet, he has taught him to love music.

Danilo is a gifted teacher as well as an excellent musician. He tailors each lesson to my son's inclinations and interests while moving him along towards greater mastery of the trumpet. He encourages my son's curiosity and has conversations with my 10-year-old that touch on pretty sophisticated musical ideas. I cannot recommend Danilo more highly. He is patient, kind and always well-prepared for each lesson which builds on the work from the week before.

Matt H.

Brighton, MA

Determined to meet the students needs and to provide a focus to help create a successful and meaningful partnership with their instrument.

I provide a focus on the fundamentals of trumpet playing as well as cater to the student's interests/ambitions and stretch outside the classic trumpet repertoire for a more contemporary approach. (Students will study from classic technique books like the Arban's and Clarke studies, learn tunes by ear, practice improvisation techniques, and most importantly learn how to have fun playing the trumpet!)

About Matt

Matt Hull is a Boston-based trumpet player and composer born and raised in the city's South End. Matt has performed at many of Boston's foremost venues and halls such as Brighton Music Hall, The Paradise Rock Club, Berklee Performance Center, Ryles Jazz Club and the historic African Meeting House. Coming from a jazz background he cut his teeth as a sideman in a weekly residency from 2010-2012 at Boston's oldest standing jazz club, Wally's. In addition to performing locally, Matt plays with different groups frequently out of state. He has played at many clubs (The Knitting Factory, Nectar's), D
.I.Y. venues (houses, basements, art spaces), and festivals (Outside the Box, Bella Terra) around North, South, and Midwest America. In addition to performing around the country, he has performed internationally and recently traveled on a 16-day tour that stopped in Toronto and Montreal, Canada.

At Berklee, Matt studied composition privately under the direction of local composer and faculty member Ayn Inserto, and trumpet with luminaries Tiger Okoshi and Greg Hopkins. In Spring '14 Matt was awarded the Thad Jones Award by the Jazz Composition department for outstanding work and achievement, and had one of his big band pieces premiered by the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Greg Hopkins. Matt composes/arranges music which draw influence from jazz, rock/pop, and avant-garde music. He has the skill and experience to write for a wide range of ensembles from small to large and in a variety of genres. He is also heavily inspired by the experimentation of electronics in improvisation and incorporates the use of effects pedals in both solo and ensemble settings.

A recipient of a prestigious full tuition City Music Scholarship, Matt attended Berklee College of Music 2010-14 and graduated with a dual degree in Jazz Composition and Professional Music. Matt frequently does session work and work for hire as a freelance trumpet player, composer, and private trumpet/general music teacher in the greater Boston area. You can find him playing regularly with bands People Like You (MA), The New Review, Birch Fire, and his solo project under his own name.

Matt helps my son a lot especially for improvisation skills. He is straight forward and always makes sure if a student understands basic things first before moving onto the next level. Look forward to more lessons with Matt!

Sean P.

Brighton, MA

About sean

I am a Berklee College of Music Alum with an emphasis in trumpet performance. I play Guitar, Piano, and Sing in my own projects.

As an instructor, I provide a unique view point on performing music through an experiential atmosphere. Music is an expressive language and in order to understand it, there are very systematic and simple ways to do so.

Theory, harmony, performance, and practice are all facets that stem from a very common point. Interest. It is important for the student to be learning music that they are interested in, not music that is " best to learn from". If given the right
keys, a student can learn a piece without having a teacher shepherd them through it. This means a student learns how to hear what they like from a song. Not what theoretically makes up the song.

The discipline of music facilitates many higher functioning skills like critical thinking skills involved with learning new pieces. It facilitates awareness of self when playing in an orchestra or band( Am I too loud, Am I playing in tune, Am I playing too fast). through my method of teaching, the basis of education is predicated on individuality. What music does the student want to hear?

The exploration of music is meant to be experienced in real time.

Come and experience a session with me!

John was an excellent teacher. Right from the beginning he was prompt, accommodating, and professional. The lesson was great. His easy going, friendly manner makes you very comfortable. John was very knowledgable and talented.
I had a few questions that couldn't be answered in the lesson. John went the extra step over and above to have researched those questions and got in touch AFTER the lesson to answer them and provide additional videos to check out. Great experience!
