My focus on solid tone and consistency in a comfortable range means that, when you're ready, your high chops will be SOLID.

You already enjoy listening to music, now it's t
ime to enjoy making it!

***About Me***
I've appeared on recordings with dozens of rock, pop, jazz, and classical groups, and perform on a variety of instruments and styles throughout the Boston area.

I listen to and play all kinds of music from Beethoven to Stravinsky, Arcade Fire to Beyonce, James Brown to Snoop Dogg/Lion. I have had the pleasure to share the stage with rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones).

I've played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, violin, cello, and string bass drums. Some of my favorite recent projects have been:
-Quilty (Pavement-style hard rock band)
-The Nevermind Orchestra (brass band that covers Nirvana tunes)
-Chill Sons (my own band for which I write songs, play guitar, and sing)
-Manhattan Symphonie (an entertaining symphony orchestra featuring soloists on piano, violin, saw, urdu, and tap shoes)

It is a treat to share music with others, and my lessons are fun, challenging, and engaging.

Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile! Let's hang out and do music things.

I lucked out when Chuck became my teacher to give me guitar lessons. After all these years, I am finally beginning to believe that I can actually play a guitar, thanks to Chuck. He gives me his positive feedback at every lession which encourages me to practice and believe in myself.. He is so smart, kind, patient, talented, and funny too. If anyone comes to you seeking a very talented teacher to learn an instrument, you would be wise to assign Chuck to be their teacher.

We're a few lessons in and Chuck is helping me a lot! As someone who does not have a performance degree, I have a lot of basic questions about how to practice, rehearse and perform. Chuck has been great and I look forward to continuing to learn!

Being a complete beginner with no background in music or playing a musical instrument, Chuck was patient and enjoyable to work with. I am excited about the future lessons!

Michael P.

Boston, MA

Where trombone is my specialty, trumpet is quite similar to trombone requiring the same fundamentals of tone quality, range, articulation and music theory. I would work best with somebody still working on technique, repertoire, and will encourage the learning of improvisation (not necessarily jazz!).

About Michael

Hi there! I'm Michael and I recently graduated from New England Conservatory (NEC) with my BFA in Jazz Performance on trombone while also completing NEC's Music-In-Education (MIE) Concentration.

I'm currently an active trombonist in the Boston music scene having played with a wide variety of groups at many of Boston's top venues. I also enjoy curating and producing music events and festivals! But most importantly, I love to teach (that's why you're here, right?)!

Working with people and watching them grow brings me a lot of joy. A recent highlight was hosting my first recital for my stu
dents at my private studio-- it was a really special evening and am excited for more!

Feel free to e-mail at mprentky@gmail.com or call me at 617-827-7378. I'd love to chat!

The number one tenant is to have fun! I offer a relaxed, but hard-working environment while keeping the lessons easy-going, stimulating, and educational. My job is to challenge you, make your "brain sweat," and to keep you engaged. I'm flexible and very sensitive to your needs.

Michael is an excellent teacher. For the first time in years, my 11 years old son is looking forward the his trombone lessons! Not only he's making lots of progress, he also loves the fact that Michael is always open to play the music that he likes and that they improvise a lot, which makes it so much more fun playing.
Michael is also very easy to get in touch with and very accommodating if a change in schedule is needed.
Super easy going, highly recommended.

My daughter is learning so much from Michael. She started out having no idea how to play any brass instrument. She's now been taking lessons with Michael for 4 months and is making great progress. He's a fantastic teacher and also very reliable and communicative around scheduling issues. Highly recommended.

My 14-year-old loves his lessons with Michael. Michael makes learning the trumpet fun because because they play the music my son is interested in learning. We no longer fight when it's time to practice.

Matt H.

Brighton, MA

Determined to meet the students needs and to provide a focus to help create a successful and meaningful partnership with their instrument.

I provide a focus on the fundamentals of trumpet playing as well as cater to the student's interests/ambitions and stretch outside the classic trumpet repertoire for a more contemporary approach. (Students will study from classic technique books like the Arban's and Clarke studies, learn tunes by ear, practice improvisation techniques, and most importantly learn how to have fun playing the trumpet!)

About Matt

Matt Hull is a Boston-based trumpet player and composer born and raised in the city's South End. Matt has performed at many of Boston's foremost venues and halls such as the Middle East, Brighton Music Hall, The Paradise Rock Club and the historic African Meeting House. Coming from a jazz background he cut his teeth as a sideman in a weekly residency from 2010-2012 at Boston's oldest standing jazz club, Wally's. In addition to performing locally, Matt plays with different groups frequently out of state. He has played at many clubs (The Knitting Factory, Nectar's), D.I.Y. venues (houses, baseme
nts, art spaces), and festivals (Outside the Box, Bella Terra) around the Northeast.

At Berklee, Matt studied composition privately under the direction of local composer and faculty member Ayn Inserto, and trumpet with luminaries Tiger Okoshi and Greg Hopkins. In Spring '14 Matt was awarded the Thad Jones Award by the Jazz Composition department for outstanding work and achievement, and had one of his big band pieces premiered by the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Greg Hopkins. Matt composes/arranges music which draw influence from jazz, rock/pop, and avant-garde music. He has the skill and experience to write for a wide range of ensembles from small to large and in a variety of genres. He is also heavily inspired by the experimentation of electronics in improvisation and incorporates the use of effects pedals in both solo and ensemble settings.

A recipient of a prestigious full tuition City Music Scholarship, Matt attended Berklee College of Music 2010-14 and graduated with a dual degree in Jazz Composition and Professional Music. Matt frequently does session work and work for hire as a freelance trumpet player, composer, and private trumpet/general music teacher in the greater Boston area. You can find him playing regularly with bands The New Review, and People Like You (MA).

Sean P.

Brighton, MA

About sean

I am a Berklee College of Music Alum with an emphasis in trumpet performance. I play Guitar, Piano, and Sing in my own projects.

As an instructor, I provide a unique view point on performing music through an experiential atmosphere. Music is an expressive language and in order to understand it, there are very systematic and simple ways to do so.

Theory, harmony, performance, and practice are all facets that stem from a very common point. Interest. It is important for the student to be learning music that they are interested in, not music that is " best to learn from". If given the right
keys, a student can learn a piece without having a teacher shepherd them through it. This means a student learns how to hear what they like from a song. Not what theoretically makes up the song.

The discipline of music facilitates many higher functioning skills like critical thinking skills involved with learning new pieces. It facilitates awareness of self when playing in an orchestra or band( Am I too loud, Am I playing in tune, Am I playing too fast). through my method of teaching, the basis of education is predicated on individuality. What music does the student want to hear?

The exploration of music is meant to be experienced in real time.

Come and experience a session with me!

Sean is patient, skilled and diligent. We are very pleased with his teaching so far. One of my sons is taking piano and the other guitar and both of them love taking lessons with Sean. He really adapts each lesson to the individual child's interests and skill level. I would highly recommend him.

John is one of the most gifted musicians I know. His ability to see music as an extension of his soul sets him apart from the herd. John helped with my breathing so I can last longer. I would recommend anyone to meet with john and take a lesson on anything musical. Love this guy!!!

John is extremely versatile and talented, and his love for music is so obvious and inspiring. I went to him with what I thought was a solid foundation of knowledge but he brought so many new ideas to the table that I started thinking of music in a whole new-and positive- way. He is very personable and easy to work with, and he treats you with respect and focused attention to detail. Definitely try working with him, you won't regret it!
