Kathy B. Detroit, MI

I have been teaching piano for over thirty years, both in my home and in Catholic After School Programs. I teach both Beginning and Intermediate students.
I use Michael Aaron Adult Piano Book Grade 1, Michael Aaron Piano Coarse Grade 1 for Theory, Technic, Lessons and Performance books. I also use Music Ace Deluxe as a review on their computer. This is a lot of fun for all my students.
I will go as fast or as slow as the student needs me to go. I tailor make the lessons to my students.

About Kathy

I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I enjoy teaching music to all age students, and especially enjoy watching my students grow in their music ability. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in Language Arts with minors in Music Education and History, and my Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Education with emphasis on English as a Second Language and Sign Language for the Deaf. Randy L. Franklin, MI

Are you or your child just itching to express yourself on a keyboard? So was I, for as long as I can remember.

We record you all the time in a recording studio environment. Listening back to your performance is a powerful tool.

Most music lessons are just too full of un-intuitive systems and teach reading before you can play a note. What a turn-off! We make sure to play first and we always have great fun. And we get to all the ear training and theory as well.

Almost every lesson we record your original music or you playing on top of tracks that I create just for you. I send you an MP3 along with an email of your lesson notes.

Let's PLAY!
Oh and yes, my method makes good use of technology but is rooted in a solid and massive classical education including Dalcroze, Kodaly, Orff and more.

An integrated approach:
Music almost always involves several skills. Below are some of the complementary skills that I can help you with.

In my Semper Method, we always address ...

About Randy

RANDY L. Teacher / Musician / Producer Playing by Ear Pretty much everyone can play by ear. So I help you to explore your talent, reach your musical goals and to create and perform music as a real and beautiful part of your life. Making music should not be a boring job. Rather, it should be something you can't wait to do. A way to get in touch with the rest of the universe. You will also learn to read and write, but it won't get in the way of your music. SONGLab Your music. Instantly. We use recording as a powerful tool to help you listen and improve. Tired of crappy tabs? Struggling to capture your song? No worries. Learn a process, instead of a lesson. Apply it anywhere. Go from musical idea to music, fast. Get to the groove in 2 minutes or less. In any software.

I don't ever write reviews for anything, normally because I'm just too lazy :)
This guy deserves a good review. He's passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and exactly what you would want in an instructor. I'm still learning and very new to piano, but I'm glad I chose Randy over the many other options. No instructor is going to do the hard work for you, that's your job. A good instructor will motivate you and keep you on the right path, this is the guy.

Thank you Randy

Randy is my piano teacher. But to say that I merely take piano lessons with him would be an understatement. His title should probably also include inspiring mentor and compassionate friend. His positive energy and hilarious, kind spirit are contagious. He will forever change the way you listen to and feel sounds. He not only helped me creatively express the music inside of me in a way no teacher has before, but even more importantly, he's helped me find my voice and welcome joy and gratitude back into my life. So if you're ready to let go of your nerves and your ego and step into his studio to explore the music that is within you, then this unforgettable experience awaits. :)

Ivan is a great tutor! He really helped me get a better understanding of music theory and also helped me improve my understanding of playing music on the piano overall. I used to take lessons at Axis Music Academy, which is a really well respected music learning institution. However, my instructor there focused more on getting me through the lessons then making sure I understood what was going on. I choose to continue my lessons with Ivan because I see my music comprehension growing and I feel that he knows exactly how to teach you to make sure you understand what your doing.

I am beginner at playing the piano, and Nic is an awesome teacher because he's patient and any improvement - no matter how big or how small - Nic recognizes and compliments the achievement. He really breaks things down so it's not overwhelming for a beginner, and he allows me to learn at my own pace but he does challenge me to learn. I've learned to know which keys are which, how to place my fingers on the keys and how to relax and play with both hands. I highly recommend Nic as a piano teacher.

Nic can relate to the child's ability level and instructs them as such. He is very reasonably priced; flexible which is immensely helpful if I have to chance a lesson; and comes to the house - another bonus.
I recommend him.

My lessons with Marie are perfect for me. She is a very positive person which adds to my excitement of learning. Marie also understands that each person has areas of music that are easier to grasp than others areas and provides me with worksheets for my difficult areas; very helpful. Marie is also able to recognize how much I can do in a week (how many pages in the lesson and technique books) so I don't feel overwhelmed or underwhelmed.

I look forward to many more lessons with Marie and give her a 5 star rating. BTW, she comes to my house, which I appreciate, which allows me to play on my own piano for lessons.

Marie is patient and fun

Marie is my wife. However, she has also helped me learn piano. I am not good, however, she is patient with me. Let's face it, if she can teach me, she can teach anyone!

Marie is very talented (all husbandly love aside). She sings like an angel even when she would say she is doing terribly.

She enjoys teaching and goes the extra mile, often spending hours a week after lessons making sure her students have the warmups needed, music examples, and anything else you can think of to help them.

And, like I said, if my wife can teach her husband piano with a smile on her face, she can have patience working with anyone.
