**Songwriting for all ages and abilities and currently have young children writing their first songs as a way to develop their writing and musicianship skills, to young adults releasing their first recordings of well crafted material. I use improvisation as a bsic tool to assist singers and pianists alike. I also work with guitarists to work on their craft and to develop as artists.
Creativity, skill and love of music are the key elements that I work to encourage in every student. Over the years my teaching has evolved and I find it gratifying to take people far beyond their own expectations while helping them achieve their goals. I believe everyone is musical and just needs the right key to tap into their own creativity.
For beginners it's important to study with an excellent teacher. Setting a solid and creative foundation makes all the difference! For advanced players studying with a great artist takes you greater artistry.
Weekly private lessons focus on technical skills in either piano, voice (or a combination of both) and a strong musical foundation. Theory and Ear Training are fundamentals that are embedded in this approach to developing a complete musician and artist.

I just recently started with Dee. She is doing a great job of helping me realistically assess my performance, and constructively set goals to improve the aspects that need work. It's been fun and very helpful.
April 8, 2019
Our 8 year old son had his first Guitar lesson with Dee this past weekend, and she was amazing. She wasted no time getting down to brass tacks with our son, showing him the various parts of the guitar, how to hold it and within minutes he knew two chords. She was able to keep our kiddo engaged, offered great praise and positive feedback/reinforcement and kept him on task for the entire 45 minute lesson. We could not be happier and cannot wait to see what he learns during his next lessons with her!

Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.
Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
Teaching Philosophy -
My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment. Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.
I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.
I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.
I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.
HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.
I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.
I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

*** Lesson Details *** I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.
I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.
-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.
-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.
-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed
-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.
Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

Expressing yourself is the ultimate goal of music and my job is to help you get your point across!
Like any musician, music is my life. I love to soak it in any way I can! Whether it be listening to records, jamming with my friends or watching all the live concert footage of Stevie Ray Vaughan I can get my hands on.
I graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor’s of Art in Music with a concentration on guitar performance. Throughout my undergraduate studies I performed in various ensembles within the college’s curriculum. Currently, my solo project gives me the opportunity to continue to grow through writing and performing my own original pieces. Throughout my career I have had the honor of performing with renowned songwriters Todd Rundgren and Charlie Sexton as well as being mentored by jazz drummer Frank Donaldson of
The Ramsey Lewis Quartet.
*** Lesson Details ***
Studying at the college level taught me a lot about what not to do as a teacher. The material is already difficult enough, so why would I be difficult with you?
I strive to be more of a mentor and friend rather than taskmaster. However, I do require structure and commitment to getting better. My curriculum will revolve around you and your needs with added material that I feel will help you succeed.
A typical lesson plan includes:
chord and scale knowledge,
and tying all of these ideas together by learning a song in a genre you love!
All of these concepts culminate in the discovery of your own personal voice!
*** Studio Equipment *** My teaching studio is just steps away from the Belmont Blue Line stop! Our lessons will be held in a private practice space in my home. The large room has multiple amps and guitars, so there is no need to bring an instrument for lessons if you don't want to! (But, you do need an instrument to practice with outside of our lessons!)
Extremely knowledgeable, has a strong background in music, accomplished guitarist, understands people learn different ways, always well prepared to teach and willing to help guide you through your musical journey.

I have extensive experience writing with some of the best songwriters on music row, and my songs have been featured in American Songwriter Magazine. I co-write and perform weekly in Nashville, and love to share what I have learned with developing songwriters!
If a student is interested in working on both their voice and their songwriting skills, lessons can be designed to incorporate both. I address form, lyric writing techniques, melody enhancement, and commercial appeal when teaching songwriting lessons. Students will learn the fundamentals and will bring in songs for critique!
Many of my students also study to learn basic guitar and/or piano with me, with an aim to accompany themselves on their original songs. We also have a home recording studio, which is available at a discounted cost to students interested in recording demos of their songs!
Brittany offers private lessons in commercial and/or classical voice, songwriting, music theory, and ear training. She graduated the commercial music program at Belmont University with a focus on voice, songwriting, and music business in 2013.
Brittany brings a unique skill set to the table, having studied and performed a range of musical styles with hands on experience in Nashville's music industry. Brittany frequently writes on Music Row with professional songwriters, is a demo singer in professional recording studios, and performs with her special event band, The Golden Band.
Brittany has years of paid, professional experience as a singer in several different settings, so her ability to relate to any student and help them truly understand and achieve their goals is notable. Brittany has performed as a solo artist in restaurants
and other public venues, singing country and pop music; she has also performed as a soloist in classical settings, as part of a duo in a wedding band, as a member of several choirs and ensembles, including a capella groups; she has also been cast in several lead roles and ensemble roles in countless musicals.
For the same price as your average voice lesson, you will gain so much more knowledge in the field of music while you sharpen your skills with Brittany! Each student is different, so Brittany clearly identifies each student's specific goals and designs a unique lesson plan to achieve them.
Brittany has been so sweet and all around amazing and very patient she has been a great first teacher and I’m so glad to have her as my teacher

Was skeptical at first but that was quickly turned around. My daughter absolutely loved Brittany and I could see they hit if off from the beginning. The instructor was polite, friendly, very encouraging, and motivating. I was thinking this would be a short term deal for a life experience as a birthday present to my daughter but I see now that I may be in this long term! We're all excited for the next session.

Brittany is absolutely fantastic with my 13 year old daughter who has never had any vocal training before. We are five lesson in, and from day one, you could tell Brittany really knows her stuff. We have seen fantastic progress in such a short time. Brittany's knowledge, patience, enthusiasm, and own personal talent shine through. My daughter looks forward to each and every lesson. We were lucky to find Brittany and I highly recommend her.
As a professional composer of over fifteen years, I absolutely love having the chance to share my experience to help songwriters of all levels continue to grow and improve and refine their abilities. Songwriting is both one of the most challenging and most rewarding musical subjects to teach. Every student brings such diverse interests, skills, and goals to the table, and therefore, each curriculum of study can vary greatly. However, nearly every student I work with will spend time focusing on three key areas of study: first, refining the basic and essential technical skills of songwriting (understanding the principles of melody and harmony and lyrics and the ways in which they intertwine); second, and understanding of what songs mean and the ways in which songwriters go about passing that meaning along to their audiences (which will involve a good amount of listening and analysis); and finally, developing their own voice as a songwriter, so that they can say what they mean to say in ...
Teaching and playing music have always been closely linked for me throughout my career. I began performing professionally at thirteen, and two years later began giving private lessons, constantly incorporating new techniques and lessons I was learning from my gigs into my teaching curriculum. This early start in both areas has provided a wonderful foundation for my teaching and performing careers, both of which have continued for more than a decade and a half. During that time, I've had the joy of working with students of all ages as a drum instructor at Northfield Mount Hermon, a music teacher at Greens Farms Academy, a general music and chorus teacher at Amherst Middle School, a summer music instructor at Deerfield Academy, and with continued private lessons. I've also recorded drums on over 20 albums and played hundreds of shows with a
diverse group of artists across the country.
In my lessons, my highest priority is meeting students at their level and making sure that our work is helping them to progress towards theirs goals as a musician/instrumentalist. With a combination of focus on musicality, technique, and developing a musical vocabulary, students will both improve their fundamental skills on their instrument, while also expanding their more general musical understanding, all within a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment. I look forward to working with you!
All ages and levels welcome! Depending on your level and individual goals, I start with some basic methods, forms, and focus on developing your personal voice in songwriting. Whether one wants to focus on their lyrics, their performance, chord progressions, rewrite, or melodic melody, I can help make your songs the best they can be.
Brienne received her Bachelor’s of Arts in music performance from the University of Southern California. She has been invited to perform at numerous popular Los Angeles venues: The Grammy Museum, Troubadour, and The House Blues. She has studied with and shared the stage with Award winning Multi-Instrumentalist/Singer/Songwriter/Composer Patrice Rushen, Glenn Frey (The Eagles), and Grammy Award winning Motown songwriter, Lamont Dozier (Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Michael Jackson). Before getting her degree, she toured around the U.S. performing at many universities and colleges performing original music from her self-titled independent EP release. In addition to her performing career, Brienne enjoys teaching and working with kids through music and is excited to continue to grow with her students.
She was very kind and welcoming. She is flexible about what my goals are and happy to help achieve my goals. She gave me some brand new warm ups that I never heard of that seem to really help strengthen my voice. I look forward to more lessons!

"Love my classes with Hilary so far! I'm developing myself as a songwriter to launch my professional music project very soon. Half of the class is basic pi
ano in order to be able to come up with melodies and the other half is writing lyrics/songs. Hilary is very sweet, patient and explains terms/theory in a very clear and easy way to understand. Songwriting can be a very vulnerable thing to do and Hilary creates a safe, professional space for the writing to happen. I'm excited to take more classes with her and definitely recommend her!"

When you're learning how to write a song, looking at how other songs are structured can be a great place to start. Like looking at a map before you go on a roadtrip, checking out the basic elements of songs you love gives you a sense of how they were written and what you need to do to write a song of your own.
If analyzing all your favorite songs sounds like a daunting task (it is), you're in luck. The Billboard Experiment wanted to know if there was a formula that could determine which songs …
