As a child, I lived in Montreal, Canada and attended a French public school. When I moved here, I continued my French education in middle school and high school, eventually pursuing it as a second degree in college.

I have experience tutoring all ages in French, and am willing to work with you through any questions you have. I have specific knowledge on differences between Quebec (French Canadian) and France French language, accents and grammar. My French experience also includes studying abroad at l'Université de Pau in Pau, France, and living in the French quarters of a language immersion program for 3 years.

I also have 2 years of experience teaching group French classes to adults in a classroom setting, ranging from beginner to intermediate levels.

I love learning french from Erica! She prepares in advance for the lessons, and creates study materials that I can access at any time. I'm interested in learning the Quebec pronunciation as well as France-French, and she is able to introduce me to that. She is patient, and great at helping me make sure I am forming my mouth in a way that helps me have the proper pronunciation. She is a great teacher!

SPECIAL AREAS: IB study and exams, comprehensible input

I am a professional public school teacher, and have been tutoring and teaching since 2013. I have worked primarily with teens and adults, but welcome all ages to join me in their learning adventure.

I'm happy to say that I am a very flexible teacher. Together we will find the best way for you to learn and feel successful in French. Specifically, I speak of two main options: traditional school learning and a method called comprehensible input.

*Traditional learning is something you're probably familiar with and may have experienced in learning a lesson. This is the textbook, worksheet, grammar repetition version of learning. For some people, this works for them. This is how I learned French, and some find success with it. However, if you've ever felt this wasn't the best method for you (or you'd like to try something new anyway), please keep reading.

*Comprehensible input is an approach that allows us to dive right ...

I first started learning French when I was in high school and was amazed at how many similarities it shared with Spanish (which both descend from Latin) which helped me to pick up things a lot faster. I have since lived in the "French House" (at the Foreign Language Student Residence, part of on-campus housing at BYU) for two semesters where residents are required to speak their target language while in their respective apartments. I also took a third-year advanced grammar French class while at college while living in the French House. French is just an awesome language to learn!

About Paul

I hail from Walla Walla, Washington, home of the "famous" sweet onions. I can't begin to express how much I love languages!! I have studied 8 so far (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, and Dutch) and I teach 5 (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Japanese), and

"I have studied French for more than a year and I have completed a second series of lessons with Isabelle in which we focused on pronunciation. I think that having a teacher, especially a native speaker like Isabelle, to help with the pronunciation is essential when learning French. She answered all of my grammar questions as well and she taught me a lot about France and French culture. I found all the lessons very enjoyable and informative."
