I'm a first generation half-Japanese American currently living in Boston, MA! I spent my childhood surrounded by Japanese language and culture, followed by 7 years of formal language training, culminating in a Japanese language minor at the University of Washington. My thesis focused on the manifestation of gender in Japanese performing arts.

Growing up bilingual, I understand the difficulty of trying to juggle two languages! Whether you want to learn a new language, or simply want to brush up on your Japanese skills, I am always happy to be of help! Lessons include reading, writing, listening, translating literature, and speaking (polite, casual, and formal styles). I use the Genki and Tobira books and also like to introduce students to classic and modern Japanese literature as a way to enhance the students’ cultural knowledge. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

About Mona

I'm an active flutist and Japanese enthusiast currently living in Boston, MA! I hold degrees in Flute Performance from New England Conservatory and the University of Washington, and recently completed my Fulbright year at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Great first lesson Mona. I learned quite a bit during my first lesson. She made me feel comfortable speaking Japanese which is what I've struggled with the most.

Just finished my 4th class with Isabelle. She has been very helpful with my French conversation. She meets me at my level and then challenges me. She speaks clearly and at a speed I can understand. The notes after the lesson are excellent and help me to continue my learning. I highly recommend Isabelle!
Brian
"Listener" is how I would describe Isabelle, and it's why she is a great teacher. I brought a lot of random questions into lessons each week and she helped me with all of the answers. She also used the answers to my questions to show me further examples to be able to help me frame why things were the way they were. This is my first French teacher but I couldn't be happier with the time I've gotten from Isabelle. I would highly recommend her as a teacher.
LINGYI
I have been having French lessons with Isabelle for more than 6 months. I definitely have learned a lot! Isabelle is very patient and flexible about different learning methods. I highly recommend her!

"Gabriel is a fantastic teacher. Being a singer and an actor he has the ability to help you hit the correct sounds using simple exercises that can be later practiced at home.

In few lessons that we had he helped me a lot. He is patient, encouraging and provides a comfortable environment during lessons. He is able to guide you and gives a strong foundation to learn the American Accent.

Highly recommend!"

Japanese Romaji Charts: Japanese Alphabet & Syllables (in English)

When learning Japanese you're introduced to several writing systems, including hiragana, katakana, kanji, and finally - romaji. Romaji simply means "Roman characters." You will typically use romaji when you type out Japanese sentences using a keyboard. "Romaji is the representation of Japanese sounds using the western, 26-letter alphabet," says Donald Ash, creator of TheJapanGuy.com. "Romaji puts Japanese into a format that most Westerners can read and understand." Although romaji i …
