As with any instrument or art, you have to start somewhere and put work into. There are no shortcuts. However, a good instructor can quickly recognize what you wish to learn, zone in on those areas, and most importantly allow you the desire to keep play more. This type of guidance is the “shortcut”. For myself, I have 18+ years playing electric/acoustic guitar I have also attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA playing with other musicians and learning from the best instructors.
Beginner level: we have to start with positioning of you fret and pick hand. You can change a bit of this up later. To start, I might hear you play something: one note, a melody, or a riff just to see where you’re at. Starting from scratch? That’s perfectly fine.

I play and teach nylon-string guitar, steel-string acoustic guitar, and electric guitar. I specialize in finger-style classical guitar, jazz, and folk, but I also have a background in rock, bluegrass, blues, soul, pop, Hawaiian, Celtic music and more. I always start lessons with new students by getting to know what music they love to play and listen to, and I will develop my lessons accordingly.
If you have experience with guitar, I will probably ask you to demonstrate your skill level by playing a song you know. If you are picking up guitar for the first time, the first lessons will be devoted to learning correct posture and technique, and you will begin playing your first scales, exercises, and open chords. After a few lessons, you will begin to learn your first melodies and repertoire.
After a few weeks, our lessons will likely take several different, but parallel trajectories. You will learn to play the lead melodies to songs as well as play the rhythmic accompaniment. ...
