This was my first lesson with Oliver. He was very patient, positive, and willing to answer questions. We used a scale exercise to help me gain familiarity with note names and moving my fingers around the fretboard, and then learned a simple bass line for a popular rock song.

My son really is enjoying his lessons with Oliver. He is very patient and easy to work with. My son has been practicing every day cause he is wants to show Oliver he’s excited and serious about learning.

Fingers or a pick? Why did you you choose electric bass over the guitar? I’ll help you understand the role of a bass guitar and show you basic techniques to those catchy fills that have been remembered for decades.

Beginner level: technique and positioning is paramount. I prefer to use fingers over a pick to begin with but it is purely your choice. I will start from one position (left hand) and work with the right amount of finger strength (both hands), timing of notes, and coordination. A plethora of popular songs can be played in just one spot on the fret!

Next, I will incorporate some simple theory and show you how to move around the fretboard comfortably by shifting or sliding and really emphasize cooperation with the right hand. You want to make those notes shine and “mean it”. You are the band’s “anchor” and you Must listen to your bandmates (even if you are just jamming to your favorite songs).

My goal is to make you feel comfortable in your role and get the ...

About Jon

I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped

Jon is AWESOME! His patient yet enthusiastic demeanor made my 9yr old look forward to her lessons, and really enjoy learning! I plan to continue with him as long as her interest holds!!!!

We love what Jon has taught our son. Our son has progressed so much in the past couple of years, and still enjoys meeting with his teacher despite him being a teenager. When you find a good teacher, you do all you can to stay with them.

At 52 years old, my wife treated to lessons for Christmas. I haven't played in 30 years. Although, I have had a few lessons with several different instructors back in my 20's, I never felt any direction. I always heard 'you got it. just keep playing'. Unfortunately, I stopped as nothing made sense.
I have learned a ton from Jon in only 5 lessons. Bits and pieces are all quickly coming together. I have a long way to go, but know more already than I ever have. Jon is fun, friendly, and has a great demeanor for teaching. If he has the patience to teach me, he's the right guy for you.

I have played extensively as a professional electric bassist, touring both domestically and internationally. I can help you with basic and advanced aspects of technique as well as the genres of Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop, R&B, Rock/Pop, Latin. I can help you with your specific needs as well as show you new techniques that are necessary in the professional world. There is an option to learn by reading music as part of the curriculum.

About Christopher

In my many years of teaching and being taught I have realized that the best teachers are those who really focus on the needs of the student and help them realize their passion for playing music. This usually involves a lesson plan which combines both technical aspects and working on songs, so that

I've taken bass lessons from Chris for about a year. He's a very skilled musician and is also very good at communicating in a way that makes concepts easier to understand. He has a laid back personality that makes lessons enjoyable but he still demands effort. Overall, I would recommend taking lessons from Chris
Emily
I have no musical background, but I thought it would be fun to learn the guitar as an adult (I'm 31). A friend recommended that I take lessons from Chris; there's no question that Chris was qualified. Overly qualified! But it's not Chris' talent that makes him an effective, influential teacher. Rather, it's his calm demeanor and clear vision of how best to teach the basics and mechanics.

It's be a blast learning from Chris. Our weekly lesson is always a highlight for me! He's as great as they get.
Katherine
I’ve done both in-home & remote lessons with Chris. Chris is a really great teacher, with a deep knowledge of music theory and technique, but also the ability to adjust that to whatever level you’re coming in at. I was a near complete beginner with a lot of anxiety about playing in front of other people when we started and Chris was able to work through that with me with a lot of humor and kindness. His agenda is to work with his students on songs they are interested in learning, and along the way weave in lessons on how notes and chords work, which I’ve really enjoyed. He also teaches bass guitar to my teenage daughter, who really enjoys her lessons and has improved greatly since they began. I highly recommend Chris.
