About Ruthie
My name is Ruthie and I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May of 2007 with a Bachelors of Music Education degree with an emphasis in voice. Through my collegiate experiences, I had the privilege of participating in a Concert Choir, Barbershop/A Capella Ensembles, Vocal Jazz Ensembles and Performance in Solo Voice. The jazz program at UNC is one of the finest in the United States, and to be selected as a member of one of the vocal jazz ensembles was an honor in itself. From these experiences I have gained knowledge about the importance of vocal performance and music advocacy. I accepted a position as a general music teacher in Colorado in the fall of 2007 and then worked part time for a school in Laguna Niguel, CA until June of 2012. I recently moved from California to Minnesota and am trying to get my music student cli
entele established. I love to sing all different styles and I'd love to help you find your style and help discover your passions.

My passion for music started for me as a young child. I grew up in a musically inclined family, and was inspired and motivated by family members to use my gifts and talents to educate students about the world of music. My immense love for children, coupled with my educational experiences and my passion for music qualify me as a fun and exciting teacher.

I am huge lover of Barbershop/Sweet Adeline music and I recently competed in the International Young Women in Harmony Quartet Contest in Nashville, TN. My quartet, Vogue, won the competition. The Young Women in Harmony contest is for girls 25 years old and younger. I recently sang with a quartet called, Dolce. We competed in two International Competitions in Denver and Hawaii and placed 10th and 15th in the world. I was also a member of the International Gold Medalist Chorus, Harborlites, which is comprised of 180 female singers.

"Music isn't just learning notes and playing them, You learn notes to play to the music of your soul." - Katie Greenwood

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons will be educational and fun. I want to find your passions and interests and from there I will create lesson plans to enhance your learning experience in your specified concentration. Voice lessons will start with vocal warm ups and exercises and then we will proceed to work on vocal techniques and preferred repertoire. During the lessons we will create goals and work on those goals so you become a successful musician.

I am a very patient and caring teacher and I am able to create the lessons to your style and needs. Music is fun and I want to make it that way for you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a full keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
I studied music education in college with a vocal emphasis. I am classically trained but studied jazz as well. I also am a member of an internationally ranked barbershop chorus and quartet. I specialize in singing bass and lead in barbershop.

Lessons will work in conjunction with other aspects of the students music education, such as music class in school.

I have had a number of works commissioned from me as a composer of educational music for ensembles like the LIU Post Wind Symphony and Manhattan School of Music Precollege Brass Ensemble, among other community and public school groups.

In 2011, I served
as a composer-in-residence with the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Brass Ensemble, and again in 2012 with the Candlewood Middle School 6th Grade Band in Dix Hills, NY. In the summer of 2012, the LIU Post Wind Symphony commissioned a work from me, entitled “Big Sky Country,” which received its world premiere at the John Philip Sousa Memorial Band Shell in Port Washington, New York. Michael is an wonderful teacher! He is extremely patient, very encouraging, informative, personable, and easy to talk to. I have always wanted to play an instrument so I decided to take trumpet lessons. I am very happy Michael and I crossed paths. I work full time and he is very flexible with my schedule. He has coached me not only on how to play, but how to care for my trumpet- today my lesson included how to clean it. I am in awe with the how many instruments he can play. This is also fun for me because after just a few lessons, we are playing duets together! I am also excited that after a short period of time, I am actually reading music. Overall an amazing teacher that I would recommend for any instrument because of his vast knowledge in music!

Mike taught me everything I know about playing the jazz saxophone. He came to every lesson with great energy and always made me excited about the music with novel ideas for exercises and just the right balance of fun and rudiments. I am not a professional musician, and may never rely on the saxophone for income, but Mike has given me a very deep and permanent appreciation for the music. Thanks to Mike, jazz and the saxophone will always be parts of my life. I cannot recommend him enough as an educator.

Claire is an excellent instructor. she makes you feel at ease. she was punctual and very friendly. She has a French accent and is French born. I cannot insist enough how important it is to learn from a teacher who's native language is whatever that your are trying to learn. obviously with me having no background in French it is a learning curve but honestly I felt that after the first 45 mins I was enjoying mind it not because of anything else but the teacher's excellent, easy going manner and her enthusiasm for teaching. she is encouraging without being pushy but we also had material covered so no wasting time here. answered all of my questions and began with a great game plan. thank you Claire with God's grace and permission I hope you succeed in all that you do.

Mr. Ronnie has been the most caring, patient instructor for my son. Brennen looks forward to every lesson and enjoys his time learning. Being only 10 years old, I was concerned that he would not have the attention span for lessons and end up giving up before he really had the chance to learn. This has not been the case with Mr. Ronnie as he has kept my sons attention during each lesson and helped him learn something new in each lesson where Brennen looks forward to what he is going to learn at his next lesson. If you want someone who is going to take a genuine interest in your child then Mr. Ronnie is the right person for you.

I am a local high school band/orchestra director with lots of teaching experience. In addition to teaching in the classroom/rehearsal room, I have 5 years of experience teaching privately. I have performed and regularly still perform in orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz ensembles, klezmer ensembles, and experimental/improvisatory ensembles.

My philosophy towards teaching is to help the student establish their own long-term and short-term goals and then use those goals as motivation. I strive to make sure all of my students not only gain excellent technique, a great sound, and a well-rounded bank of knowledge about music as a whole, but also a sense of fulfillment and achievement out of their studies. I emphasize a general atmosphere of positivity and encouragement.

About Allison
I am a local high school band/orchestra director, composer/arranger, and performer.

As a teacher, I have taught elementary general music and currently teach at the high school level. I have taught privately since my sophomore year in undergrad. I enjoy working with musicians of all skill levels and ages. My philosophy of teaching is to instill a genuine love of music and learning into my students in order to inspire self-motivation and discipline. As someone who has suffered and recovered from physical injury due to playing in the past, I also highlight good technique in my students.

As a performer, I regularly perform as a classical clarinetist, a woodwind doubler in jazz and musical theater contexts, and in more improvisatory/experimental settings as well. I frequently perform my own compositions in both group and solo settings. I co
mpose and arrange classical, liturgical music, musical theater, pop music, and everything in-between.
