My high school daughter has received trumpet lessons from Jonathan for over a year. He is an excellent instructor, very knowledgeable and patient. As a school teacher, he knows how to work with kids in a way that gives him an advantage over a non-teacher performing artist. We've done lessons both in person and online. I'd highly recommend Jonathan to any parent looking to have their middle school/high school student take private lessons.

Jonathan is very patient with my kid and made the first lesson fun.

Based on playing ability, I try to tailor a student's goals to their time available to practice and motivation. Just like with any craft, playing an instrument is a discipline that needs attention, and I want the best outcome the student feels that they can produce. We will have fun discovering the joys of learning music!

Keats is a skilled and perceptive teacher. I am dealing with many beginner issues and he always has multiple suggestions and ways of explaining how to accomplish the techniques I am working to master.
I am an accomplished flutist but just love the cello so decided to take lessons. He truly seems to enjoy sharing his knowledge.
I feel so fortunate to have found Keats because he really cares about me as an individual although I am truly old enough to be his grandmother. Outside of our lessons, he has sent me links to recordings, a new bow which I have purchased and am thrilled with, and various other cello-related matters of interest to a beginning cellist.
He does not insist that there's only one way to do things and has studied with a variety of teachers himself. He comes from a musical family so is very knowledgeable about classical music. A true musician who understands the love of music.
Lastly, I want to recommend Keats because he has a very gentle, kind manner and praises my work when it is good. He encourages me through frustrations and sets reasonable goals at each lesson.
I am also a music teacher and would recommend him for a student of any age. I know that the relationship that develops between teacher and student is crucial to a student's progress, and Keats is a real and caring person in the lesson, not some drill instructor. I think he would be fabulous with children and certainly relates very well to adults. Give him a try!

Keats teaches my son online as we live in a different country. We’ve been very pleased with Keats. Here are some words from my son:

I am grateful for Mr. Keats as my piano teacher. He does an excellent job at teaching any style of music that I want to cover; he especially does well at explaining and is super understanding for teaching at whatever pace that you s

Very patient. Explained everything very well as I had forgotten most of the piano taken years ago. Reviewed everything to start teaching at my level. Gave some good tips and apps to help me study.

Kate is the BEST. I immediately felt at ease despite learning a completely foreign instrument as an adult. Kate is incredibly supportive, talented, and funny, which is important when you're feeling incompetent and a little sweaty.

Kate is a fantastic cello teacher - you can tell that she has extensive teaching experience. She is patient and supportive and really helps with the fundamentals of learning cello in a relaxed environment. I've been taking music lessons since I was a little kid (now I'm a mom of two boys who are learning to play piano -- I'm a beginning cello learner) and I can say w/o reservation that Kate is a great teacher and I'm going to learn a lot!!

Katie has been the best online teacher! I started out very new, and having played only the clarinet years ago. Katie is very patient, and she keeps learning interesting and fun. She is also very flexible, I have a busy schedule and she is always super understanding! I look forward to our lessons every time!

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

Karen was not prepared for the lesson. She spent 15 minutes trying to send me photos from a beginner Tabla book available on Amazon. She did not own a set of Tabla drums. She ensured me she could teach anything, but could not pronounce the words used for proper Tabla technique, knew no history and could not even teach me to tune. She literally was reading out of the book figuring it out along the way. I lost a lot of trust from this and asked for a full refund for future lessons.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

He is patient with his students, but he also has high expectations that motivate his students to work hard. What sets him apart from other teachers is that he is also fun and engaging, with a dynamic personality. Jonny has worked with some of the area's finest cellists and has performed in many different capacities. This gives him a broader background for more well-rounded instruction. "I am a prominent professional musician in Portland and retired public school music teacher, and have had the opportunity to observe Corey teach on several occasions. Having evaluated several teachers during my career, I can honestly say that Corey is among the finest teachers of elementary school students I have EVER seen. Corey has a rare talent with children, and he teaches music with an easy going style and manner that brings out the best in all of his students--both young and old. Corey is likeable, professional, and easy to work with. I am pleased to give him my highest recommendations with no reservations."

"I've had something like 6 or 8 lessons with Chris so far and he's awesome. If you're not sure what to work on he'll come up with a great "standard" curriculum for you, but if you have particular interests or tastes he tailors your lessons accordingly - which keeps you motivated and makes practicing fun. He's got a huge range and can easily switch between styles if you have diverse interests. He's also cool about letting you decide how much focus you want to put on theory and learning to read music, so you never feel like you're just grinding through anything in order to get to the fun stuff. He's also just a really nice, funny dude so lessons are enjoyable from start to finish. I especially like the games he uses to teach various techniques/sight reading/improving your ear, etc. Really glad I ended up taking lessons with Chris, can't recommend him enough. :-)"

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
