I have been studying guitar privately for 27 years, have taught for 20 years and I am qualified to teach jazz/pop/rock guitar, improvisation, and theory. I graduated from the music performance program at Queensborough Community College. At Q.C.C. I was fortunate to receive formal training in ear training/ sight singing I-IV, music theory I-IV, convocation performance, performance juries, as well as receiving private lessons focused on jazz improvisation.

I majored in guitar performance concentrating on jazz improvisation but I also have been studying guitar privately for around 27 years with a strong emphasis on rock, blues, and pop.

I am a classical guitarist originally but I also play acoustic, electric, fingerstyle, blues, bluegrass, country, and rock, and I am a master of music theory. I have been teaching for over 20 years and playing and performing for 25 years. My specialty is fingerstyle and I can teach from beginner to the highest advanced levels. I teach at a major University and have been an assistant professor of guitar at several colleges. I currently play and perform in a band that plays all kinds of music from Folk to Funk, from Country to Blues, from Bluegrass to Ballads. I am a music theory specialist. I can teach it in general but I specialize in teaching theory for guitarists. Teaching music is one of my main passions in life!

Students will learn through one year of lessons how to:
play 35 essential acoustic guitar chords
play 15 essential strumming patterns
play Power chords, slash chords & easy ‘cheat’ chords
Finger picking patterns - Play in 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8 time
Play in any key using a capo
Play any song in 3 capo positions
Understanding chord charts
Transpose complex keys into guitar-friendly keys
Tuning, pick and strumming technique
Damping strings, learn the notes on the neck

We will be focusing mostly on flamenco, classical and Latin finger techniques in a variety of styles. Those focus is to develop the student in a technical way so that they will have a well rounded grasp on the instrument to play whatever they wish. We will also work on song repertoire in class with both songs chosen by me and the student.

The guitar can be an intimidating instrument for the beginner and an ever-expanding maze for the seasoned player. I want you to think about every time you practice as an adventure into a brave new world, navigating your way through chords, scales, and music theory concepts, your world of music will expand.

My teaching method is guaranteed to get you playing the guitar and having fun in no time! I’ve created a step by step program that is tailored to each individual student. Whether you're a beginner who doesn't know where to start or have been playing for years and finally want to take your playing to the next level, I accept students at any level.

I'll give you all the tools you need to succeed including jam tracks, chord & scale diagrams, and tablature. I truly believe anyone can play guitar as long as we set a plan to the goals. I set my lessons to where the student want to go. If it’s the chords, song structure or new skills. This is my goal for all of my students.
