Vanda is amazing! My daughter is in 1st grade in a French Immersion school, and we hired her to assist with the transition to distance learning. She is a great resource, and provides my daughter with fun educational activities. Also, my daughter is having fun conversing with her in French, which is delightful to see.

I was born and raised in Nice, France. I arrived in the United States in 2010, to study music in California. I just received my doctorate from the University of Miami.

I have taught French to foreigner people in France since I was 18 years old (my mother has been doing that for over 30 years now) and since I arrived here to adults and students. I was also a French tutor during my Bachelor, Master and Doctorate programs.

Through private lessons I can help you get ready for exams and midterms, help you improve your french or just offer you to have a conversation with a native speaker. I love my culture and would love to share it with you if you are interested.

French is my second language, but it often feels as it if were the first, as I have been speaking it for many years on an everyday and professional basis. My grammar is excellent, as I learned the rules in junior high school in the Paris suburbs (grammar is an important part of French schooling). I edited a 240-page scholarly book, De La Case A La Villa (published 2014), and I give both private and group lessons.

About Diane

Bonjour! Hello! Hallo! I teach several languages: French, German, and English for non-native English speakers. I tailor my lessons to each student's individual needs and I always go above and beyond the basic lesson, with follow up between lessons. I try to make learning a language fun and alive

Hey there! I'm Amanda! Let's work together on your goals towards learning French! Unlike everyone else listed here, I am not a language teacher, I am a language COACH. It's 2019; let's learn languages like it's the 21st century! As a PhD candidate at the University of Florida studying Linguistics, I have studied all the best ways to learn a language and would love to share my passion with you!

As your coach, I'll help you focus on your goals and hold you accountable for accomplishing them. I promote student agency and will help you to make your own choices about your own learning; this way each lesson fits your individual needs and differences. As your own language and success coach, we will not only work together to understand the target language vocabulary and grammar, but we will also delve into the metacognitive and self-regulatory skills necessary to study quickly and efficiently, feel comfortable speaking the language, and get ahead in other areas of your life as well!

Working with Amanda has been my biggest pleasure! She truly cares about her students and she has the best, most current knowledge and research on Second Language Acquisition. My skills have greatly improved thanks to Amanda, and I have even applied these skills to other aspects of learning in my life. Truly one of a kind personal instruction!
Samantha Bolen
This tutor is worth every penny! Amanda made me laugh while giving comical memory devices to help the lesson material go faster. She also reduced my anxiety by telling me that I could ask her ANYTHING and made me feel so comfortable—-not embarrassed like I usually feel over struggling with concepts that other students find “easy”. She is the best tutor and worth every moment, and she really makes it fun and not boring. I’ll keep her as long as I can!! A+++++++

Bonjour a tous!

Dear French Students,

A native French speaker, I have been tutoring students of all levels since 2008. I was the main French and German Instructor at the San Jose Learning Center in the Silicon Valley before moving to New York.

The core of my lessons are drawn from a language book, which allows everyone to work at his or her own pace during the week.

The lessons always begin with a dialogue, no matter your level. From how you are feeling, to what you did during the week, to the weather of your best friend's gossip, we warm up with a conversation I type out as we go.

The rest of the lesson is then spent reviewing previous work and introducing new material in a variety of ways, constantly setting a rule in practice. Poems, songs or texts, depending on your interest, keep the content alive and interesting.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

I hope to hear from you, meet you, and work with you!

Sincerely,
Gabrielle

French Grammar Rules: How to Conjugate Regular Verbs

Why do verbs in French change so much? Get clarification on the rules for conjugating the most common French verbs from French tutor Carol Beth L.... Verb conjugations are the bane of some French students who are not accustomed to the constantly changing verb endings in English. To be sure, we do conjugate our verbs. We add -ed for the past: "I look"  becomes "I looked." We add -s to in the singular third person: "I run," becomes "he runs." But often times, English verbs are a li …
