Japanese is known as one of the most complicated languages. Learning to speak the language, however, doesn't have to - and shouldn't - be complicated at all! Simplified, structured methods that I use will help you stay the course and accelerate your progress for your personal or professional needs. The ability of not only understanding but also having authentic conversations can be yours!

Having been a teacher of Japanese as a second language certified by the Education Ministry of Japan since the 90's, I've had the privilege of teaching diverse learners in age, nationality, proficiency, and more. As your guide, coach, and partner I will fully customize the program together with you so that you can gain the greatest value of ever minute, every lesson.

Looking forward to working with you soon. Gambari-mashoo!

Masahiro has been a great teacher for my kids. They took lessons from him through summer and fall and learnt a lot of martial art techniques. Masahiro was always very patient and supportive with their progress. I highly recommend teacher Masa (as my kids called him)! Thank you.
David
Masahiro was incredibly wonderful as an instructor. I've done martial arts for 15 years, and practiced 5 to 6 different martial arts. Masahiro was one of the best I've trained with. He was able to adapt to a person's style, was able to instruct in an excellent fashion despite having a limited view of my technique (since it was done remotely). I give the highest recommendation.

My kids enjoyed their first lesson with teacher Masa. The were engaged in a fun filled learning environment the whole time and came out learning how to block and punch! They are already looking forward to their next lessons!

Do you want to understand your favorite anime show, movies or Japanese culture better? Do you want to learn to crack jokes in Japanese and win any crowd over? Would you like to do business in Japan and need someone who can not only teach you the language, but cultural differences and etiquette so you can win over any client?

Japanese and English are polar opposites in many ways.
Sentence structures are upside down. English is written horizontally left to right, but traditional Japanese is written vertically right to left.
Communicating can be difficult when what can be spoken directly in English has to be said in more subtle ways in Japanese, and this miscommunication can cause relationships to break down.

My passion is to help people cross cultural barriers and make new friends.
Learning a new language can build confidence and expand your mind in ways you never thought possible!

One of the signs that you have truly mastered a language is to understand the humor. I can ...

O genki desu ka?
Hi, I'm Richard, and I can teach you simple Japanese. I graduated from BYU in Japanese and lived as an LDS Missionary in Tokyo for two years in 2003-2005. I love teaching everything that I know in a simple, understandable way. So I can help you learn the basics faster than you would normally. I know what it's like learning in school where you seem to take forever, and don't get very good. I also know what it's like talking to many people in Japan, and learning very quickly, and knowing the difference. I want to help you learn as efficiently and as quickly as possible. I also have a one hour presentation of the basics of Japanese grammar, that basically covers like the first 2 years of college Japanese classes! No joke, it's a powerpoint presentation I've put together that will really give you the "big picture" with the backwards grammar that we try to understand. Ask me any question, and I'll do my best to help you out! Mata ne!

About Richard

My goal is to help students ENJOY the piano by finding ways to make it easier and doable. I have a very useful approach in helping students become self sufficient to sight read very well, to see patterns, understand music theory to either help them play well, or to even create their own music(I co

How Long Does it Take to Learn Japanese: Timeline for Beginners

There is one common question nearly all beginners have when they become interested in learning the Japanese language. “How long will it take me to learn Japanese?” is typically top of mind if you have a trip to Tokyo coming up, or if you’ve always wanted to watch your favorite Japanese movie with the subtitles off. Learning any new language is a journey. When it comes to learning Japanese, you’ll need patience, persistence, and a good work ethic. If you put in the time and effort, yo …
