As a non-native speaker of Japanese, I understand the struggles that an English speaker faces when learning Japanese and can alleviate the problems. I will provide my understanding and comparisons that are easier to comprehend than dense textbooks. I have studied Japanese for 4 years and am currently working on it as my major in college with a GPA of 4.0. I absolutely love explaining the detailed nuances that Japanese has to offer and would love to teach you!

Learn to speak and read Japanese, have fun, and get to speak with a native Japanese speaker who only recently moved to the US.

I was born and raised in Hiroshima prefecture, Japan. I have a long history of teaching English to Japanese students at the Junior and High School levels, and use my skills now to teach English speakers about Japanese language.

About Yae

My family was enthusiastic about international cultures, and so I became an English teacher in Japan. I taught English to Junior High School students in Osaka for more than 10 years. During this time I realized the importance of experiencing other cultures first-hand, so I went to the US and stud

Mrs Yae isn't only an extremely careful, thoughtful and well prepared instructor, she is also able to offer an insight into the culture which helps a lot when learning a language that isn't commonly used in this part of the world. As an ESL instructor myself, I appreciate Mrs Yae's techniques when it comes to explaining some of the most complicated aspects of the language, I highly recommend her services.

As a native Japanese speaker, who has spent the last 30 years in the United States, I understand the structural and grammatical differences in the two languages. This gives me both the teacher’s and the student’s perspectives, which I find valuable as a language instructor.

I have taught Japanese to college students and adults, using beginning Japanese textbooks, and I am most comfortable teaching high school/college students and adults.
I can also teach conversational Japanese and/or customize the lesson to meet each student’s particular goals and needs.

Send me a message to find out if we are a good match!

Takashima sensei is a very kind instructor who is very approachable. She allows contact outside of meetings for questions in a rather friendly atmosphere so you won't feel silly for asking questions. It makes for a comfortable learning environment where it's OK to make mistakes, but you will come out of it knowing more than you did before.

Since she is a native speaker, she is perfect for practicing speaking with someone out in the real world.

Rie is an amazing teacher! Today was my first lesson and I have already learned so much from her. I am excited for our future lessons! :)

Hi, I first taught Japanese to my friends at college in 2002 and I’ve always enjoyed teaching and interacting with students even though I didn’t expect it to become my career then. I have taught adults including senior citizens, college, high school and middle school students, and young children. Teaching Japanese to American military personnel and spouses who were stationed in Japan was the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. They truly needed the language skills to live in Japan, and they really appreciated that they were able to learn survival Japanese that’s instantly useful out in town.

I grew up in Japan and came to US to go to college. When I was a college student, I taught Japanese and English to middle and high school students during summer back in Japan. I have a Master of Education in TESL. I teach all levels including those who are starting out and also want to improve their fluency and understand the culture and history too!
I’m looking forward to working with ...

15 Fun-to-Say Japanese Onomatopoeias (With Audio)

What Are Japanese Onomatopoeias? An onomatopoeia is a word where meaning is derived from a sound, or when a word sounds like how it looks. In English, we have onomatopoeias like "cock-a-doodle-doo" for the sound a rooster makes, or "crunch" for the act of crushing things. Onomatopoeias are quite common in many, if not all languages. We tend to notice them most in comics as sound effects: zippers "zip" and light switches "click." They're fun to say and they certainly aren't hard to learn. …
