I am a Japanese native speaker who has a deep interest in helping students learn Japanese and learn how to be successful in Japanese society. I lived in Japan until this past year and worked as a civil servant for seven years. During that time, I helped JET Program workers from America learn how to talk with their bosses and co-workers. This means I can help you learn smooth business Japanese as well as more casual language. In Japan and in the US, I frequently advise LGBTQ students and students of color about Japanese culture and how to adjust to Japanese society. Both Japanese language and culture can be tough--but I will work with you to help you succeed and achieve your goals!

My favorite aspect of tutoring is tailoring my lessons to YOUR needs and desires. If you would like anime, but need more speaking practice, I can come up with role-play situations that will allow you to talk about your interests. If you like Japanese culture and want to read more high-level texts, we can ...

Aki has earned my highest recommendation. She provides weekly Japanese language and culture online tutoring to my 14-year-old son. She engages him fully, providing a rich multi-media experience utilizing video chat and whiteboarding effectively to simultaneously teach the spoken and written language (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji). He is excited at the prospect of each new lesson and is learning quickly.

Aki is the best Japanese teacher that I have ever had! Aki plans lessons that exactly match the things I need to learn, so it is very efficient for me. She is especially good at explaining difficult grammar points in a very clear manner. She has really helped me improve in reading, writing and speaking. I am very grateful to her and strongly recommend her to other students.

You will learn how to speak (and write if you are interested!) Japanese while you also learn about the culture and traveling tips. Lessons can be customized and catered to your needs and goals but mainly we can focus on having conversations and learning correct pronunciations while gaining useful words and phrases. I’m a native speaker but I have been living in the US for more than 20 years. As far as my teaching background goes, I was a teacher for Saturday Japanese School total of 10 years in the past and I also did tutoring while I attended my university. From my personal language learning experience, (I learned to speak Spanish also!) I can share my tricks on learning language faster and retaining it. Let’s get started!

I am a native Japanese speaker with a Japanese teaching credential. All ages and levels are welcomed! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. I am also qualified to tutor graduate students (Master’s and PhD) doing their thesis.
I believe when we learn other languages, it is important to learn their culture, history, etc. for better understanding. I’ve learned Japanese drums, how to wear Kimono, Tea and flower ceremonies so that we can explore Japanese culture more than just learning the language!

We can focus on all four skills; speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but if a student would like to focus on only speaking, we can certainly do that as well. We also talk about cultural aspects of Japan and cover the vocabularies related to the cultural aspects.

Sensei seems to really enjoy teaching. As both a native speaker and a longtime resident of the US, she is able to bridge the cultures in a way that many instructors would not be able to. I have been studying with her for over six months - both in a private and college setting - and I feel that I would be hard pressed to find a better teacher. In a college setting, she is very strict and covers a lot of material in a short period of time, and those who take her courses must be prepared to expend significant time and energy for success, but those who can keep up are well equipped to continue their studies with pretty much any other teacher or course.
Chris
Sensei Emi was patient, kind, and very thorough with her teaching. I started from knowing absolutely nothing about Japanese language or culture and now, having completed just 5 hours of lessons with her, I feel I have a solid foundation to build upon. Within our 5 hours we covered numbers, greetings, and almost all of the 46 basic hiragana. She was born and raised in Japan so it was lovely hearing about the culture and society from stories she lived through first hand. As I continue my education in Japanese I hope to return to her and continue to learn more. I highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone learning Japanese at any level.

Emi is the second private tutor that my company has had and she by far has been the best, hands-down. She is professional and experienced but she is also flexible with scheduling which is a necessity for business professionals who travel quite a bit for work.
The homework is not strenuous but is focused and important for success in her lessons. She also teaches at a nice pace but also is willing to work with you if you feel that you are falling behind. You can absolutely tell that Emi cares about her students and their progression with the language no matter their age and experience.

Japanese Grammar for Beginners: Learn to Conjugate Japanese Verbs

If you're learning Japanese, here's some good news: Conjugating Japanese verbs is much easier than you think! Here, Ann Arbor, MI teacher Elaina R. shares some simple tips to help you conjugate Japanese verbs... I love conjugating Japanese verbs. Why? In most romance languages, conjugations are based on tons of factors, including subject, number, and even gender. For example, in Italian, "I am tired" is Io sono stanca; but if you are male, it's Io sono stanco. If there are sever …
