About Matt
I have been teaching guitar to students on the East and West Coasts of the United States for over 20 years. I was always interested in music and made my first “recording” at the age of 2 and a half. I got serious about playing the guitar when I was 10 years old after hearing the legendary Randy Rhoads for the first time.
I begged my parents for a guitar, which I received at Christmas, along with a parental demand that I take classical guitar lessons, and a warning that if I did not practice, my parents would sell the guitar. Six months later, I still had the guitar, and a brand new electric guitar. I never stopped practicing, and spent summers at the National Guitar Summer Workshop, where I even built a guitar at age 15.
By the time I was in high school, I was regularly playing in bands, recording in professional studios, and studying M
usic Theory. I credit my early development to my teachers, Ron Bluen, and Steve Famiglietti. I aspire to offer my students the same positive influence I received during my formative years.
After high school, I attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California, where I honed my chops. From there, I played with various bands, including Hollywood Rose (the precursor to Guns N’ Roses) and with Bruce Bouillet (Racer X, The Scream, Epidemic) and Tommy Chong.
In 2006, I released my solo record, Contributions For An Atom Bomb. The Album has garnered a cult following and the respect of some of my all-time heroes.
Today, I continue to play live shows, teach, study, write, record and jam. Nothing makes me prouder than jamming with my students and watching them grow as musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to focus on three things every lesson.
1. Technical Exercises- to get your fingers moving and build strength and coordination
2. Music Theory - the fingerboard and the way music works seem complicated, but I have a great methodical and simple way to break it down so it all makes sense.
3. Tunes - I like to work with the music you like. We take songs and break them down to understand the techniques and theory behind them. You won't just play the song like the recording, you'll understand the chords and scales and why your favorite artist chose them.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have guitars, a bass, pedals, cables, metronome, practice amps, etc. All you need to bring is your guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own equipment and materials, students must provide their own guitar, amp, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I teach students to understand theory and the fingerboard. All styles and genres are acceptable but I specialize in rock.

An excellent teacher

I started taking lessons with Matt when I was 16 and when we started up again this year (I'm now 31) we were able to pick right back up where we left off. That should tell you all you need to know about how much he cares about his students.

He's an especially excellent teacher because he's so passionate about music and his instrument. You'll never run out of new things to learn because he's always learning new things himself.

Nobody will teach you to love the guitar like this dude!

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching Guitars, Basses, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Music Production, Re
cording, and Live Sound for 16 years.

I can teach you note-reading, tabs, ear training, music theory, composition, improvisation in just about any style of music.

Working with people writing songs is something I enjoy thoroughly; I can help you write and record your own songs. A computer and internet access are preferred to take full advantage of the technology for learning and producing music.

Knowledgeable in Instrument repair, set-up, and maintenance, I can help you fix it, and how to spot a good instrument.

Patient and experienced, with a broad knowledge of music in most areas, I can give you hundreds of good references from previous students I've taught over the years

*** Studio Equipment ***

Guitars, basses, percussion and drum sets, a piano, saxophones, hand drums, a 20-track digital recording studio with monitors that are equalized to the room's acoustics for accurate listening and mixing, plus an assortment of microphones, amps, mic stands, cables, and connectors.

Very personable and eager to share his love of music. He’s not looking to teach you “his way” but meeting you where you’re at and helping you get to where you want to go, musically.

For the last year I have been taking piano, viola and violin lessons online with DeAndre. He is a natural, insightful teacher and I look forward to years of lessons with him. I would absolutely recommend him.

I'm a beginner with the violin and viola and an intermediate pianist. I was doubtful at first that I would be able to learn through a video chat. I'm amazed at the detail DeAndre can pick up just by watching a video chat. There have been many times when we just did the lesson over the phone with no video and he was able to tell that my fingering hand was in the wrong position or I was holding the bow wrong just by listening over the phone!

On and off through my life I've taken piano and viola lessons (I'm 46) and was never able to get very far. I found my teachers discouraged me in many ways without trying to. DeAndre has been fantastic. With his instruction I've been able to do things I never thought I would ever be able to do. He's excellent at giving feedback about the things I'm doing wrong but in a way that keeps me positive and makes me aware of the things I'm doing well and the things I need to improve.

DeAndre is absolutely worth the time and money.

Hi! My name is Stephen. I am a recent college graduate and professional guitar player and singer. I am in a local DC band called "So.Dakota"- we play a lot of venues around the DMV area. I have several years of teaching experience to all ages and all people. I am incredibly flexible in the speed and content of the lessons depending on the specific student's needs, but I will tell you that no matter what, you will get better each week! Guitar is an incredibly fun and satisfying instrument to learn, but it takes some practice. I am here to encourage you and help you in anyway I can so you meet your goals! As long as you do your best and (try to) have a great time, I guarantee you will learn a lot from me!

I am a very patient person, so please never feel like you are disappointing, not doing well enough, or want to quit. Half the battle wi
th guitar is being encouraged, and I am here to be your cheerleader/teacher. I love and can play most if not all types of music-so you get to decide what we play. Whether it be Metallica or Taylor Swift, I can get you rockin' in no time.

I hope to see you soon!

About Merav
I grew up in Israel listening to my parents' bluegrass band, and I enjoy playing everything from Old Time fiddle to klezmer. My training is classical, with an M.M. in violin from Cincinnati Conservatory. I believe that solid technique can give you a foundation for learning any kind of music. Although I have a particular course I recommend for beginners, I'm happy to help you learn whatever music inspires you.

I've always liked learning about music too, and I integrate music theory and history into lessons. Understanding the harmonic structure of a piece can help you learn it more easily, and knowing about the composer and the style can give you insight into how it might be performed. Together they create a richer learning experience.

My PhD in ethnomusicology from UC Berkeley allowed me to think about music in a social context, and I'
m especially interested in violin music around the world. I still teach musicianship at UC Berkeley and can help you with sight-singing if you like.

Our daughter took cello lessons from Esther from 9th grade through her senior year in high school. Esther is an excellent teacher and she taught our daughter so much in such a short amount of time! I so loved going to all her mini recitals too! Especially when they had mini ensemble groups! They did some original scores that just blew me away! One such original was called "School in the Wall" that combined Alice Cooper's School's Out for Summer and Pink Floyd's Brick in the Wall and it was completely awesome! Thanks Esther for teaching Summer!

Excellent teacher. I started violin lessons with Esther as a beginner adult in music and violin. I knew very little and was nervous about how to "jump in" to music later in life. Esther patiently and effectively guided me towards realizing my own individual potential. I initially took lessons in-house but then moved out of the country and continued online. She is extremely knowledgeable, reliable and experienced with a real ability to work with students of all levels! I absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a sincere, gifted teacher who loves sharing music.

I would highly reccomend Esther to anyone pursuing a musical talent. She is an amazing performance artist as well as an music educator who is very passionate about both.
She also gave private lessons to my daughter who was a 5yr student of hers & helped my daughter to become a 3yr concert master of her high school orchestra. I was very impressed by Esther's teaching style & it showed through my daughter's performance. So if you're serious about learning music, you will learn from the best!!!! Hands down!
