With thirty-five years experience as a pro singer/stage director and vocal coach, I bring extensive international experience to my lessons. Having worked with singers at all levels of development, I will introduce you to vocal technique structured for where you are right now. I coach in multiple genres: Jazz -- determining keys, understanding charts and leadsheets, Broadway -- belt, mix and legit, Blues, and for classical singers, multiple languages. I work extensively with actors on both speaking and singing voice and with voice-over and media voices.

As a stage director, I offer stage and performance etiquette, interpretation and how to prepare for auditions and recording sessions. If you are a community singer and just getting started, I love teaching the basics and will help you build the confidence you need!

Lessons are in a double studio with high ceilings, great acoustics and both a grand piano and electronic.

It is a pleasure to provide a recommendation for Diane McNaron and her studio. My daughter has been taking private lessons for more than three years and we have been exceptionally pleased with the results. Ms. McNaron’s extensive background and experience in a wide variety of musical genres allows her to customize lessons around the student’s vocal strengths and interests rather than force a cookie cutter approach. Ms. McNaron has nurtured her talent in a positive, professional manner and I highly recommend her for those looking to improve, learn, or simply polish their current vocal skill set. You will not be disappointed.

In as short as one semester, Dr. Griffeath has helped my voice tremendously. He genuinely cares about his students and works hard to understand how each one learns.
Whitney
Dr. R is a very talented vocalist who has a strong background in Alexander Technique. Combining the two makes a very sympathetic and understanding mentor. He can hear all of your tensions, including the ones you aren’t aware of. His style of teaching is a very natural approach and he will not ask you to do anything that hurts or pushes you too far. What stands out the most is his determination. He is determined to help you grow. I am very lucky to have him as an on staff professor.
Andrew
Dr. Griffeath is very approachable and highly knowledgeable. He has a great, in-depth understanding of voice and helps one to understand the processes behind every action taken in vocal lessons. He cares greatly about students’ progress, well-being, and enjoyment of the instrument. Highly recommended.

I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music in vocal performance and literature. I believe in empowering my students so that they can sing in all styles of music that interest them with ease and freedom. Good singing is good singing and I am comfortable teaching classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, country etc. I like to set up my students with a strong foundation for singing so that they can practice efficiently and overcome vocal obstacles without my instruction.

About Michael

Hello everyone, I am Michael - I am currently in school at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY pursuing my doctoral degree in vocal performance and literature. I have sung all over the world in operas, musicals and with professional choirs. I enjoy teaching all levels of singing and love

Great teacher - funny, patient and understanding. I look forward to more lessons with Michael in the future!
Elizabeth
I started lessons with Michael having done both contemporary voice and years of choir. But prior to training with Michael, I'd never really been coached as to how to properly sing in a classical style. He's allowed me to find an entire element of my voice I didn't know I had and made it incredibly straightforward to progress. I now absolutely love singing in a way I didn't previously think I would.
Abby
Michael is knowledgeable, funny, and thoughtful. I am a wind instrumentalist, and Michael tailored voice lessons to discuss topics specifically related to my areas of experience. I would highly recommend Michael for voice lessons!

I focus lessons highlighting any genre around technique. Cultivating one's technique establishes good habits regarding things like breath, and posture, which will help maintain a singers overall vocal health. I truly can only say good things about working with Chelsea. I was quite nervous about taking piano lessons for the first time since my early childhood, but Chelsea was very encouraging and made me feel at ease. Even with pieces that I thought I couldn’t succeed in playing, her method of breaking down the piece and then putting it back together worked amazingly for me and I was able to learn to play those pieces. We had to unfortunately switch to virtual lessons midway due to COVID-19, but she was used to conducting virtual lessons and I didn’t feel any hiccups with the switch in lesson format. What’s also great about Chelsea is that she cares about you more than just as her student but you as a person - she actually helped me with a career change (granted it was related to music) and was very helpful in that aspect as well for me. She was everything I could have hoped for in a piano instructor and more!

Chelsea is a tremendous teacher, with sympathy and patience for my absurd schedule and difficulty reading music.

I had a really great time and she explained so much to me that I wasn't really clear on.

My son enjoys his music lessons with Jonathan, who is infinitely patient teaching what can be a challenging instrument. My son responds well to Jonathan's instruction, and he appreciates having access to a professional performer as a teacher. Jonathan encourages my son to learn a variety of music, including both challenging classical pieces and more recognizable popular and jazz pieces, which helps to sustain his interest in the lessons.

Eric helped me to improve my vocal range - which means I have more selections of song to sing now. Eric made me feel comfortable and confident to practice songs that I've never even thought of trying. Eric is very encouraging and supportive. I just LOVE this singing lesson! I highly recommend Eric to anyone who is interested in taking singing lessons at any levels. I am planning to take this singing lesson for a long time...as long as Eric teaches at Takelessons :)"
