Fingers or a pick? Why did you you choose electric bass over the guitar? I’ll help you understand the role of a bass guitar and show you basic techniques to those catchy fills that have been remembered for decades.

Beginner level: technique and positioning is paramount. I prefer to use fingers over a pick to begin with but it is purely your choice. I will start from one position (left hand) and work with the right amount of finger strength (both hands), timing of notes, and coordination. A plethora of popular songs can be played in just one spot on the fret!

Next, I will incorporate some simple theory and show you how to move around the fretboard comfortably by shifting or sliding and really emphasize cooperation with the right hand. You want to make those notes shine and “mean it”. You are the band’s “anchor” and you Must listen to your bandmates (even if you are just jamming to your favorite songs).

My goal is to make you feel comfortable in your role and get the ...

Ear training is an essential skill for all musicians. I teach music as a language, using the same methods and books employed at conservatories. Students will develop their "ear" with a real understanding of music theory, rhythm, pitch accuracy, tonal memory, and sight reading. I teach fixed and moveable Do solfege, and will tailor my curriculum to meet the learning methods and goals of my students. I have had students go from not being able to match pitch to being accepted to choral groups on merit of sight reading abilities.

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Kayla for a year, before moving for work. I started voice lessons because, quite frankly, I was tired of being embarrassed to sing. Within one month I was sounding better than I would have thought possible. Kayla is an exceptional teacher and in addition to the fun of learning how to tap into my own instrument, it’s also quite engaging to see her mastery of teaching. She can easily explain concepts several different ways in all the learning style until the concept clicks for you. Her passion for her students’ progress is infectious. She is also genuinely interested fostering an ability to be a self-sufficient musician. She periodically spends time teaching you how to critique yourself and how to find new pieces without assistance. She is also always pointing out other opportunities and avenues to enjoy singing and to seek improvements. She is great at keeping lessons at your ability level. I always left lessons feeling that I had learned all the material I could have possibly learned in the allotted time. Furthermore, she organizes her lessons in such a way that your practice for the following week naturally follows and she always closes lesson by explicitly stating the goals that you should reach for in your subsequent practice. Thanks to her coaching, I learned that good singing isn’t about talent, it’s about technique and technique can always be learned. I learned to be comfortable with my voice. I really like the way I sound (which had never been true before), and even when I mess up singing something beyond my skill level, I’m still comfortable with myself because I know that it’s just a technique I haven’t mastered yet and the only thing that’s keeping me from mastering it is instruction and practice. I would give Kayla my highest recommendation to anyone who asked.

This is more or less an update of my old review.
Kayla obviously cares about her students. She drives me to do my best, and reminds me that its okay to make mistakes. She covers all aspects of performing, from auditions to the various insecurities of performers. She also teaches you how to care for your instrument. Kayla is very encouraging and understanding. She is also very enthusiastic about her work.

These are the reasons I sing her praises to anyone looking for a voice teacher.

Classical piano refers to piano repertoire from the Classical Era, utilizing the techniques and stylistic qualities of that musical time period. Composers such as Beethoven, Mozart and Bach are well-known examples of the types of music that were birthed during this time (about 1750's-1820's). Classical piano lessons will include instruction in these types of pieces, and I use a variety of books for each of my students to provide a solid foundation of understanding in order to properly appreciate and perform Classical music. From theory, scales, and technique, to sight-reading and various repertoire, I ensure a well-rounded foundation for their musicianship. If so desired, these lessons can extend beyond the Classical genre and cover other genres of piano music such as jazz, blues, rock, pop, the Romantic era, etc. I customize all lessons to my student's goals, experience level and interests.

"OK, so here's the scoop. Ahmad is the best guitar teacher around, and I know because I had a deep background in piano and music theory, playing pretty much any sheet music you put in front of me. I took LAST summer 4 lessons with some guy and I got nowhere, fast. Then this August I started with a 5-pack from Ahmad, just to get started, and within 5 lessons I was already learning how to play REAL songs but with the foundations and skills (all those scales-drills) that you need to actually UNDERSTAND the guitar and see how it all comes together. Ahmad is an amazing teacher, his teaching space is great, and he's just a great guy. He will help ANY person start playing real guitar in a short time, and now I'm working with him for a long time trying to really become a PROFICIENT guitar player that can entertain people. If you're thinking about guitar lessons, get them from Ahmad. Totally affordable, and totally a good use of your time."

"His resume and experience speaks for itself. Steven is well informed. I had an audition to prepare for in just 3 weeks and I've never felt confident that I would ace it and leave the judges in spades. I learned the importance of vowels, dip thongs, having a steady tongue that's out of the way for proper air flow and so much more. You want to be good, put your money where your mouth is. This is the guy for you. He's a bit pricey but he's worth EVERY penny and you get what you pay for."

5 Blues Guitar Secrets That Will Make You a Better Player

Learning how to play blues guitar? Pay extra attention to these five things from guitar teacher Mike B.... 1. In Tune Bends The blues guitar style is full of bending strings. Bends, as well as hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides, give guitarists the ability to imitate the way singers use various inflections while singing melodies. However, unlike hammers-ons and slides, bends are not guaranteed to be in tune. Since there is nothing worse than an out-of-tune bend in the climax of a great solo …
