San Diego, CA – March 13, 2014 – San Diego-based TakeLessons (www.takelessons.com), the nation’s leading online marketplace connecting students of all ages with high quality, well vetted teachers, celebrated the opening of their new offices last night in the heart of Downtown San Diego.
The new office, located at 225 Broadway, features a space with few walls, where no one has a personal office, which reminds the team to collaborate, communicate, and share ideas freely. TakeLessons commissioned local artists to help design a creative entryway. “We wanted to have a home where our employees felt they could grow and perform creatively at a high level – a place that attracts genuinely smart, driven people who want to change the world,” said CEO of TakeLessons, Steven Cox.
The office “launch party” was attended by TakeLessons' employees, investors, and community leaders, who celebrated TakeLessons’ booming success, as well as the growth of Downtown’s thriving tech community. This move brings TakeLessons even closer to the core of the thriving startup hub in Downtown San Diego, enabling them to play a more active role in its emergence onto the national tech scene. TakeLessons’ CEO, Steven Cox, is passionate about living and building a tech company in San Diego, and is actively working with others in the community to elevate national awareness of the city’s talented and dedicated innovators and entrepreneurs.
“San Diego has been good to TakeLessons, and we can’t imagine doing business anywhere else. That’s why we’ve chosen to invest in our surrounding community, and deepen our roots here,” said Steven Cox. “With a phenomenal pool of talent to draw upon, a supportive community of civic, business, and political leaders, and the best living environment in the world, there’s simply no better place to call ‘home.’”
TakeLessons was recently named San Diego’s 2nd fastest-growing Internet company as well as the region’s 7th fastest-growing company overall. In addition to formalizing a Google partnership to launch Google Helpouts in November of 2013, TakeLessons recently acquired its primary competitor, Chicago-based Betterfly, which positioned TakeLessons as the largest online marketplace for lessons, with tens of thousands of users in its database, located in over 4,000 cities nationwide.
“Creative, cutting-edge technology companies like TakeLessons are seeking the concentration and community that urban neighborhoods like Downtown provide – and their workers are demanding it,” said Kris Michell, president and CEO of the Downtown San Diego Partnership. “We look forward to working with TakeLessons on growing a vibrant tech ecosystem in our Downtown and thank Steven for his vision and leadership."
