John is an Organist, Harpsichordist, and Pianist just completed a Master's degree at the Eastman School of Music in the organ studio of William Porter. He graduated from Eastman with a Bachelor of Music in Organ and Historical Keyboards in 2011 as a student of David Higgs. At Eastman, he has also studied the pedal clavichord and piano technique with Ulrika Davidsson. As an instructor, John firmly believes that private, one on one music instruction should be tailored to each individual student. His pedagogical approach is different for each student. Everyone learns differently. There is just not one way to learn to play an instrument. At the first lesson there will be a discussion on the students goals and interests and different methods of teaching will be discussed with the student (and parents) to decide what the best step forward will be. *** Lesson Details *** Lessons are different for each student. The way a lesson is conducted depends on many circumstances. Depending on the goals and age of the student, one can expect lessons to guide a student to achieve the goals which will be discussed in the first few lessons. *** Studio Equipment *** Baldwin Grand Piano *** Travel Equipment *** Piano for Piano Lessons Organ for Organ Lessons Music Theory Lessons or Tutoring: Staff Paper and Pencils *** Specialties *** Piano: Depending on the Age, Ability, Personality, and Ear, I have used "Adventures in Piano," the Alfred Method, and the Thompson Method. I supplement all of these books with pieces and exercises that the students express interest in.

Highly recommended I have known John for the last 7 years. He is an excellent musician, a brilliant organist, and a very thoughtful teacher. We have often played for each other and his comments and suggestions are always insightful. In addition to his musical gifts, John’s wonderful personality and sense of humor make him a great colleague and friend.
