I have been an instrumental performer for 20 years. As a child, I began my classical training on the piano. At age 10, I began studying the oboe. Throughout my musical career, I have always performed with the highest level ensembles and have received high marks and rewards over the years. Because of my dedication to and passion for music, I chose a career as a music educator. I followed that path and graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Music in 2008 with a B.A. in Music Education. I now have been teaching music for 6 years. During my junior year of college, I started teaching privately as an oboe instructor for middle and high school students. Upon graduating in 2008, I moved to Tampa, Florida where I taught elementary music full time and continued to teach oboe and woodwind lessons privately. I also taught elementary music and private lessons in Dallas, Texas before moving to California. During my career, I have helped hundreds of students prepare for and have success in dozens of performances. I am excited for you to be another student for me to guide on a musical journey! *** Lesson Details *** It is important to me that all students have a strong background in the basic building blocks of music. I will work with you during each lesson to strengthen these technical skills. It is equally important to me that students be creative when performing on their instrument. Together, we will choose music that fits your interests and sparks your creativity and imagination. *** Travel Equipment *** I will provide recordings for students to listen to and solo sheet music. I expect students to have a music stand, instrument, basic methods books, a tuner (where applicable) and a metronome. *** Specialties *** As a classically trained oboist and pianist, this is typically the style that I specialize in. However, in addition to teaching technique and what is "on the page", I try to help students realize their full creative potential in making their "voice" heard as they play their instruments. I also like students to always be working on a solo performance piece and scales.
