About Larry

From the piccolo trumpet to the contrabass tuba, the versatility of brass instruments can be seen whether you're watching a balkan brass band or sitting in Symphony Hall. Learning how to play a brass instrument early allows me to hone the techniques needed to produce good habits and develop an advanced brass musician. Students will also learn about the brass family in depth with focuses on embrochure, apature, breathing exercises, and the many more elements that make the brass family unique to the music world.

I took drum lessons from Jon U. for a little over a year, and loved it. The only reason our lessons stopped is because he moved.

On our first day, Jon's first question to me was, "What do you hope to learn from me and these lessons?" I couldn't read music and I had no rhythm, and that's all I hoped to learn. I was in my forties, and wanted this to be a hobby; it was never going to be anymore than that, but Jon didn't treat this as boring or a waste of his time.

Jon was patient, professional, fun. And he was a *teacher.* Each time I mastered an assignment, he'd write me a more difficult one, and I learned more about music and became a better player than I ever thought I would.

Jon isn't just qualified to teach the mechanics. He has a Ph.D., and my favorite part of our lessons was simply discussing what's "behind" the playing: the theory behind it; what it means; viewing and contemplating what music is and what it means to us. How it changes us.

Good musicians don't always make the best instructors, but Jon U. is one of the rare ones. I can't recommend him highly enough.

I took lessons with Jonathan for about 2 years. I had never played the drums before and he did a great job of teaching me. His teaching style is great. He manages to make the dry stuff fun and keep your attention, and he is very willing to change up his plans to help you get to your goals.

The atmosphere during lessons is great as well. Taking lessons with Jon is very comfortable and relaxing, so it becomes very easy to open up and really get into the drumming.

Couldn't recommend lessons with him any more.

I have enjoyed my lessons with Ashley because:

1. Pace of instruction is perfect for my level (beginner) and available practice time (limited).
2. Ashley isn't simply teaching me how to play a song; rather she is improving my technique in this critical period where bad habits can still be changed.
3. Always on time (granted instruction is at her location but none the less this is appreciated).
