About Carol

I have always loved music. For me, the process of making music gives me the opportunity to lose myself in the moment. It does not matter what type of music I am listening to, I will find a connection to the music. I exhibited an interest in music at an early age. On many Saturday afternoons my mom would find me planted in front of the television set watching opera. So, it came as no surprise to family members that mom enrolled me in music lessons, singing lessons to follow. Throughout my teens I found myself involved in anything related to music. I sang in the school choir, as well as background choral work in musicals and even played the piano occasionally. I also had the opportunity to sing with a group called "Up with People," and performed some of their repertoire around ...

I have taken lessons from at least 5 different instructors over the course of the past 10 years. I would have to say that Alan is the best instructor I've ever taken lessons from. Not only is he a phenomenal drummer and teacher, but also a great person. I believe our friendship made the lessons that much more beneficial. I am always excited to attend lessons and eager to learn more. My drumming skills have improved immensely. From Latin, jazz, to rock, Alan has taught me how to play different genres. Consequently, he has helped me accomplish my goal in becoming a more versatile musician. I highly recommend Alan !

Professional, patient, and pleasant!

Alan has been my 15-year-old son's drum instructor for five years now, and in that time, my son has progressed from being a complete novice to drumming in a very decent teen band. With Alan, you get solid teaching skills, a pleasant personality, and great flexibility in arranging lessons. We love the fact that he provides instruction in our home--one less runaround for us! Alan is a musician who knows how to teach and inspire, and we recommend him without reservation.

Excellent instructor

I've been studying with Alan for more than a year. He is an excellent, reliable teacher and an outstanding drummer. His lessons are clear and concise. His communication skills are excellent. Also, I'm very happy with the syllabus he has put together for me, as we use a variety of instruction books. I feel like there's a definite path towards improvement. You won't be disappointed if Alan is your teacher...
Lola M. Woodbridge, VA

About Lola

I have more than 30 years of musical experience. I’ve taught guitar, piano, bass, and theater in private schools, art schools and I’m currently teaching at Classic Axe Guitar Gallery in Gainesville, VA. I’ve taught over 250 students in all levels of experience, tailoring each lesson to fit each student, covering all genres, so that learning their instrument is fun. It’s been exciting to see some of them become music majors, some of them become performers, and some using their skills and gifts to teach others. I love teaching and sharing my musical knowledge with people of ALL ages. I believe anyone can learn music, with the right approach and encouragement. Nothing gives me more pleasure than watching my students accomplish more than they ever dreamed possible.

I loved taking guitar lessons with Lola! She's excellent with beginners of all ages. I've seen her coax actual chords out of clueless eight-year-old and empower adults to take the stage for the first time ever. Lola is a wonderful encourager and always easy to work with.
