Master of Music - Oboe Performance

Learn oboe from a teacher with over 10 years experience and a Master's in Oboe Performance

With over 10 years of teaching experience, I specialize in working with students of all ages and abilities. Whether you're starting off playing oboe, switching from another instrument, or getting back into playing after a break, I look forward to helping you reach your goals! Lessons incorporate music theory, technique, and lyrical expression. Students are welcome to bring school and audition music to lessons. If needed, students will be placed in an appropriate method book. I tend to use the Rubank series and the Barret Oboe Method, as well as level appropriate solo pieces. I hold a Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. During my studies I studied with Carolyn Hove and Humbert Lucarelli.

I hold a Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of music at California State University, Long Beach. At the Cole Conservatory I had the privilege of studying oboe and English horn with Carolyn Hove. My Bachelor's Degree, also in Oboe Performance, is from the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. While there I studied with oboist Humbert Lucarelli. I have extensive experience teaching private and group lessons, including lessons in Oboe, Piano, English Horn, Reed Making, and Music Theory. My students have gone on to win scholarships and place in honor orchestras across the country. I am also a current member of MTAC (Music Teacher's Association of California), and my students are eligible to complete their Certificate of Merit program. Locally, I have performed with the Dana Point Symphony, Symphony Irvine, as well as other groups around Southern California. Previously, I was a long time member of the Cheshire Symphony. I strive to make each lesson engaging, informative, and fun! Students are expected to practice in-between lessons and come to lessons prepared with their instrument and music. I also encourage students to bring any music that they're interested in learning to their lessons. **Every Other Week Lessons** Due to current lesson demand, I'm not able to accept new students interested in every other week lessons. The only exception will be if you are able to fill the off week of a current every other week student. Please contact me before booking lessons for a current list of available spots. Spots are available on a first come, first come basis, and are subject to change at any time. This applies to requests for both online and in-person lessons. **Group Lessons** I don't offer traditional group lessons, as I've found they slow down the progress of both students and therefore aren't cost effective. Arrangements can be made for back to back lessons instead. Please contact me before booking lessons. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have, and I can't wait to meet you!

In 1897 at the University of Maine, ten senior students, two faculty members, and the school president created an honor society that was different from the few others then in existence-one that recognized and honored excellence in all academic disciplines. Under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann, the group formed the Lambda Sigma Eta Society, which was later renamed Phi Kappa Phi from the initial letters of the Greek words forming its adopted motto: Philosophìa Krateìto Photôn, "Let the love of learning rule humanity." Phi Kappa Phi's mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
