Raffia Biography

Nadine Raffia is a New York born-Los Angeles based singer and songwriter. Raised a short distance from New York City in the suburbs of Long Island, Raffia was constantly surrounded by a rich culture of soulful music, dance, and meaningful art which later served as a foundation for her own musical talents.

At the tender age of five, young Raffia discovered her passion for singing, and further recognized her God given gift to perform. As a child, she was a standout vocalist as a member of the Children’s Church Choir, during which time she made her solo debut. At an early age, she chose to focus on developing her vocals skills utilizing her involvement with the choir as a means of displaying her singing ability.

Hello everybody my name is Nisha R. , I am currently double majoring in Vocal Performance and Digital Media Arts with a focus in Music Production. I am also minoring in Music Composition. I am very good at teaching and explaining all levels of theory as well as Advanced Theory. I am also a very diverse musician and can teach multiple genre's for both voice and piano such as; Classical, Broadway, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Gospel and Spirituals. I'm open to also exploring any other genre's students are interested in.

As a child I watched from the doorway as my older sister took her piano lessons. From that experience I taught myself to play the piano. My formal training came in college where I received my BA in Applied Music in piano and voice. I studied classical music and opera from a visiting professor from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore MD. I graduated with honors and gave my Town Hall performance in the Spring of my Senior year. I had a passionate desire to be involved in music, to hear it and to perform it. I spent several years singing with the San Diego Opera Company, performing lead roles in Musical Theater and soloing in concerts from Monterrey to San Diego, CA. While still a student in college, I taught piano to children from the local community, so I have accumulated decades of teaching experience. Since graduating from the Percussion Institute of Technology (PIT) in 1989 I have given over 12,000 private lessons to students of all ages!! I have recorded several albums, toured around the globe and taught at drumming events across the country.

I teach all styles of contemporary drum set and marching snare drum.

In 2010, I was named "Educator of the Year" by the drumming web site "United Groove Workers".

I am a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and The Professional Drum Teachers Guild. I am endorsed by Vic Firth Drum Sticks and Supernatural Cymbals.

I am experienced with special needs students (autism, down syndrome) and children as young as 4 years old.

In our increasingly globalized world, the ability to communicate in more than one language is invaluable. Which is why I am here to help!


French is my first language but I have bachelors degrees in both English and Spanish from the Cal State University system. Italian and German are languages which I have learned through taking classes at local junior colleges and reading in the respective languages. I have tutored all these languages at a community college level as well as high school level and have thus garnered enough expertise to help any student jump start their tongue in a whole new bowl of words.


We all know about the cerebral advantages of learning a foreign language, but it is often more necessary to perfect the native tongue. I can help in either case. I love the English language and have espoused it as my intellectual language. I write poetry and short stories in English and for fun and compose an essay a day because an essay a day keeps the shrink...

Marc is a graduate of UC Berkeley, and recently completed his Master of Music in Piano Performance at Cal State Long Beach. He has been teaching piano students for the past seven years and has worked as a rehearsal pianist and accompanist. He specializes in classical piano, but also has experience in musical theater and jazz ensembles, and has performed on period instruments (harpsichord and fortepiano).

I am a classical violinist and art educator who loves to share the gift of music with anyone who has a desire to learn! I am a graduate of the University of California Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in Art History, but I have received formal classical violin training since the age of six. I acquired my classical violin instruction from Richard Adkins, Alan Carter, and Jesse Gross, whom are each honorable musicians and masters of the violin! As well as participating in numerous solo recitals, I have played in every school orchestra since 2nd grade. My most recent participation has been in the Long Beach Community Orchestras (Chamber and Symphony) and Orchestra Northern Arizona. While I am a native of Long Beach, CA, I lived in Arizona from 2010 to 2011, where I taught violin at the Flagstaff School of Music. To those that wonder- if she is so great then why is she teaching?! Well, my goal in life has always been- to make my income as a musician. In my early years I DID IT-- I was successful as a back up singer with Rod Stewart, Julio Iglesias and others. Then I did receive a recording contract with 3 CDs out with the GEFFEN label and then I became a HAS BEEN that never really was;-) I wish I had someone like me- teaching the stage presence, how to hold a microphone!, how to confidence with my singing and playing EVERY day and build on it. And the music business itself! So I have a WEALTH of knowledge to share for YOUR benefit and maybe some current networks to get you to be successful with YOUR hopes and dreams in music too!

I have been teaching Piano for 15 years now. I have taught students from age 2 1/2 - Adult. I was self taught when I was a kid and begun taking formal lessons as a very young adult in my early twenties. I graduated from CSULB with my BA in Music concentration on Voice. As a Music major you spend a lot of time at the Piano. I became a member of MTAC in 2004 and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1998. I have a great passion for Music and a bigger passion for the Piano and sharing the wonders of how beautiful the Piano really is.

I received my B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. in studio/jazz guitar from the University of Southern California. While at USC, I was the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate departmental award and the Order of the Areté award. Since 2010, I have performed well over 100 shows with a 5-piece swing band called the Hi-Fi Honeydrops, who recently recorded an EP to be released on vinyl in 2013. As a faculty member of the Bachelor Degree program at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, I teach private guitar lessons, sight reading, performance styles, and ear training. I also teach private guitar lessons at music studios in Torrance and Bellflower.

I have been teaching privately since 2006, and I enjoy working with students of all ages. I am a very calm and patient teacher who is passionate about music and music education.

Hey hows it going ? My name is Greg but many call me simply "g" -- I have 30+ years playing guitar and 10+ years coaching & teaching beginner skill levels. If you are advance level , or close to advance, then you need to think about Musicians Institute level faculty to progress... as I do best with beginner skill levels. I focus on blues and rock content, because that's what I enjoy and that's what my band plays. Acoustic or electric guitar are fine, and when you come to my studio in Bixby Knolls section of Long Beach, you will see I offer plenty of room and great environment to relax and learn. If you do not have a guitar, I can provide for lessons. I also produce Guitar Lesson DVDs and jam-along CDs under the brand GuitarDVD Pro....and GuitarCD Pro...and these are available as effective optional tool to support the in-person lessons.

I'm a small town, Wyoming native and ventured to Boston, MA, where I received my bachelor of Fine Arts at the world renown Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, I studied vocal performance, songwriting and music business and became one of the premier vocalists on campus, regularly singing in the prestigious "Singer's Showcase" each year. Quickly after graduating, I was able to tour the United States and Canada in the national touring company of the Broadway smash musical, RENT. Since re-locating to the Southern California area, I've been sharing what I've learned during my career with students, performing in numerous musicals, venues and vocal groups, as well as honing my craft as a singer/songwriter.
