About Lisa

Hello:
I have been a guitar and voice instructor for over 15 years, and a piano teacher for 3. I have currently added beginning violin and ukulele. I have also tutored elementary students and worked for Montessori's for many years. I really love this job! I had a real hard time learning guitar when I was growing up because of an accident to my left arm, but I wanted to play so much that I was able to overcome it. Because of this, I think I have learned to be a very patient teacher. I see students who get frustrated and think that it's too hard to play the guitar, but I promise you my program is fun and simple. I can show you the steps to success. I have taught over 500 students in a variety of cities from Minneapolis Minnesota, to Los Angeles California, and now Portland ...

Lisa is a great teacher. She is very talented and can teach many musical forms--one of the reasons we chose her. She also lives only a few miles from us so it's perfect to go to her house for lessons after school each week. She's encouraging and goes at the speed that's right for my daughter. My daughter has never taken lessons before. She began with piano and then added voice 2 months later. My daughter has always loved to sing but is very shy about sharing her talent. Lisa has helped boost her confidence so much that after only 5 months, my daughter performed both piano and voice at the recital. We couldn't be happier and are so proud. Thanks Lisa :)

Challenging and FUN!

I've taken 3 lesson with Lisa so far, and I'm definitely going back for more! She is a great teacher, easy to work with and I LOVE that she challenges me to be better! I used to play piano as a small child, and I don't remember having had this much fun. I can't wait to see what she has in store for me next week! Thank you, LIsa for making my lessons something I look forward to every week! :)

About Chad

I have taken piano lessons for the past 17 years and have been teaching for the last 5. While working on my Bachelor of Arts in Music at Willamette University, I decided to give piano lessons during the summer and found it to be an exciting way to connect with new people of all ages, give them a skill that they can use for the rest of their life, and grow as a pianist myself. Now that I have graduated, I am focusing on teaching more full time, and could not be more thrilled about it. Now giving Skype lessons!

*** Lesson Details ***
Having had the experience of putting in a lot of practice during the week, only to be too tense and nervous during my lesson to play well, I try to make my lessons a place where students can feel calm and relaxed. I do this by implementing humor into the ...

Great piano teacher

Chad gives piano lesson to my 7 years old daughter. I am very impressed with Chad. Chad gentle, easy going manner makes him extremely well suited to teach piano. Chad is humble, patient, knowledgeable, and organized. He always makes lesson fun and very productive. All in all, my daughter absolutely enjoys playing piano. She is not only learning how to play piano but also developing a love and understanding for music. Thank you so much for being such a great teacher!!!

Chad's great! My 7-year-old son looks forward to his lessons!

My son began piano lessons in July of 2013, not long after his 7th birthday. Chad comes to our home before school on Monday mornings - a terrific convenience to us - and despite the early hour, he is routinely prompt, focused, and affable. Joe looks forward to his lessons. Chad has found a magical balance for succeeding with young students by demonstrating tremendous patience, cultivating a joyous mood, upholding high standards of execution, and fostering in Joe an inner sense of discipline. The pace of Chad's instruction is right in step with Joe's interest and ability such that Joe is drawn to practice through his own initiative - a result attributable in part to the inspiration he receives in his lessons. As a professional music educator myself, I appreciate the emphasis that Chad has placed on music literacy from the very beginning. His choice of lesson materials has been spot on. We're very pleased with our choice of piano teachers for our son through TakeLessons.

Lucky me learning from Chad for a summer!

As much as skill at the piano as an adult student, I wanted motivation! Chad's patient and good-natured work with me on piano pieces was so, so effective. I could hardly pass by the piano without trying some of his techniques to improve.

There are many websites that will tell you instructors don't like teaching adults, but Elisa was a wonderful and patient instructor for all ages. She is able to adjust her approach to accommodate all age groups and skill levels. It's important to let Elisa know what your goals are so she can mold the lessons to help accomplish your goals. Elisa also arranges group rehearsals and recitals to broaden the students abilities in group settings (optional).

Nick D. Tualatin, OR

About Nick

Music is almost more than a passion for me, it's how I hear the world! That guy singing the harmony to the crosswalk jingle? That's me.

Though my love for music began long before I ever picked up an instrument, I began taking guitar lessons at age 10. By age 12 I was writing music and by 13 I played my music at my first talent show with my band. In high school I started studying piano and voice, and performed with the Guitar Program, Jazz Ensemble and Men's Choir. I played solo and with multiple bands, playing rock, acoustic, jazz, rock, metal and classical guitar.

After High School I spent a year studying music at University of Oregon. Though I enjoyed my time at U of O, I left the next year and moved to Boston to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, ...

My 9 year old told me Nick is the best piano teacher ever. He loves going to his lessons and is progressing nicely I think. When my son goes off on a tangent or wants to talk about the billion things going on in his head at the moment, Nick is super patient and gently steers him back on track.

Dan J. Tualatin, OR

About Dan

I began playing guitar at age 13 (I'm 43 now) and played in rock bands throughout my teens and early 20's. I went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance at CSU Fullerton where I served as tutor and academic advisor for incoming students.
I moved to Tualatin Oregon in 2005 where I taught as many as 75 students per week at various studios and played in the popular local cover band Global FM. Soon after my second child was born in 2009 I cut back on my teaching and gigging and began to focus on my home studio and original music projects. I currently play in two bands: Stoneface Honey and Hip Stew.
Now that the kids are both in school full time, its time for me to get the studio rocking again! I specialize getting students playing the tunes and ...
