Michael H. Dayton, OH

Beginner-rudimental, intermediate and advanced concert/orchestral and marching percussion, Beginner-professional drumset. I have been playing drums since 1990. Other than snare drum in marching band, I taught myself to play drum set through various media in the 1990's such as magazines, videos and much interaction with drum & bugle corps. I specialize in DCI style marching snare and have instructed drumlines from various Oho schools. In the late 1990's I studied jazz; big band and combo style. From 2000-2006 I was a drummer in three local rock bands, one of which performed and recorded extensively.

About Michael

My name is Mike and I operate out of the Dayton, OH area. I have 11 years experience teaching music in public schools and would love to have you study with me. I am a percussionist by nature, and that's where my expertise lies, but I am able to help out beginning to intermediate guitarists and pianists. I believe strongly in crafting well-rounded students and would love to have the opportunity to work with you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm pretty laid back but I expect dedication to the craft. Outside practice is essential, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Music is to be enjoyed and so should the learning process. In the end, I'm all about helping the student reach his or her personal goals and will structure the lessons to guarantee success with that.

Great for beginners or those w/more experience.

David is easy to get along with, always calm and instructive. He teaches the basics to beginners. You'll be reading music in no time and playing basic beats quickly too.
David P. Cincinnati, OH

For drums, students will learn rhythm, rudiments, beats, and fills.¬ I use a couple of Rick Latham's drum workbooks, and a couple of Ted Reed's workbooks among others.¬ For beginner's I have eighteen lessons I've designed to get started.

Terrific Teacher

He is a stupendous teacher. He makes his students feel comfortable, which is essential for optimal performance, without being excessively lax. The diaphragmatic breathing technique he began our first lesson with has proven to be incredibly valuable in signing and in my life in general.

Has a gifted teaching ability

David has been an excellent teacher for my young children. He is patient, encouraging, and has a good teaching method. My children made good progress and although they were skeptical about taking lessons, once they had a lesson with David, they continued to come back and made very good progress.

David is an incredible teacher and mentor. I recommend him without any reservations.

David is not only gifted at building your talent and ability - he will help you build your confidence. I took weekly singing lessons with David, starting with no experience at all, and he took me to a place I never thought I could be. Lessons are relaxed, efficient, and directed at your own pace, and David has a way of making you very comfortable with his patient, kind demeanor. He is a diamond in the rough, and easily worth 2x the money.

I've been teaching Drums since 2004 and recently started back January 2013. I typically use the Haskell Harr, and now include Alfred's Drum Method book for Snare; Tommy Igo for drum-set. His posters from Vic Firth are great resources. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels; I can't wait to meet you!

"To whom it may concern”

This is a recommendation in support of Mr. Kerry K. I have known Mr. Kerry K. since July 2007, when he was a participant in my week long Creative Music Making Institute at the Eastman School of Music 2007 Summer Session.

I observed Mr. Kerry K.’s performances as a percussionist in the 2007 workshops and gala concert, and I found his performances to be excellent - musical and with a clear sense of commitment. In my opinion Mr. Kerry K. has the motivation necessary to achieve success, both in his studies and in percussion performance.

I have been fortunate to observe percussion students at all levels worldwide during many years of teaching and performing with the percussion quintet, NEXUS, and as the Principal Percussionist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Based on that experience I am delighted to give Kerry my recommendation.

Sincerely,
William L. Cahn

Kerry has given private percussion lessons to my 12 year old daughter for 8 months. She enjoys lessons and I have seen improvements in her performance. Kerry has been communicative, professional, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend his services.
Thank you.
