Piano has always been a part of my life. My first memory is a memory snapshot of a piano. I was two years old, and I remember sitting on the wood floor gazing at the piano. The rest is history.

I love music, and I love teaching. I teach my students how to express their heart through the piano; music can express what words cannot. Success of my students is what is priority in my teaching. I teach them how to set goals, and visualize themselves attaining those goals.

My favorite aspects of teaching are encouraging my students to perform their best, watching them achieve what they at first thought they could not, and bringing smiles to their faces. I always continue to learn, love to arrange and compose, and enjoy performing for my church monthly as a pianist and performing weekly in my church's orchestra as a percussionist.

I had my first piano lesson when I was five years old. I performed my first piano solos for audiences at school events. I joined the keyboard team at church when I was thirteen years old. I quickly learned to improvise and accompany. It was exciting to discover that I could study piano in college. I earned my way by accompanying voice and instrument choirs, rehearsals, lessons, and recitals. I enjoy helping other people excel, so I chose a teaching degree over a performance degree.

In 1991, I graduated with my Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy. I immediately began teaching private and group piano lessons, building my studio over thirteen years to reach more than 800 students ages five to seventy-five. I continued to accompany community choirs, local vocal artists, and student performing on other instruments. I was called as a substitute for church choir directors and accompanists. Every since I can remember, I've enjoyed music! When it came time to choose a career, I choose to study my hobby and get a degree in piano teaching so I could share my love of music with others. In 2007, I graduated with a degree in Piano Pedagogy (basically, the art of teaching piano) from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC.

While I was earning my degree I taught a wide variety of classes ranging from beginning elementary music to college-level music classes. I also taught private music lessons for students from kindergarten to high school. After graduating I continued to teach private and group piano lessons through a local studio and in my student's homes until we moved out of state.

I am a recent graduate of the University of South Florida, where I have completed both my Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in Vocal Performance. During my time as an undergraduate at USF, I also was a tutor for music theory and aural theory, working one-on-one with students to help them succeed in their courses. As a graduate student, I was the graduate assistant in music theory. I assisted all levels of undergraduate theory.

Through my studies at USF, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in classical music, vocal techniques and languages. Jim has been involved in all facets of the music business for 20 years. Jim's career started in 1991 with Sony/BMG where he was a product development executive for all SONY/BMG's alternative roster. Jim worked with the musical acts TOOL, DAVE MATHEWS, Mathew Sweet, Outkast, and many others. Jim decided to move to New York City in early 1996 to serve as National Director of Sales for Hybrid Sire Records working with artists ranging from Guster, Mike Errico, Art Garfunkel and Morcheeba. Upon leaving Hybrid Sire Jim was appointed V.P of Sales for Octone Records where he helped launch the the Grammy award winning band Maroon 5 and also Flyleaf. Soon after Octone, Jim did a brief stint as consult for Vh1 and also served as GM of Warcon records a punk rock label started by the founders of the Warped Tour. Recently Jim was hired to lead the A&R department of Redeye distribution where he signed the Grammy award winner Loudon Wainwright. Jim also co-managed the band Care Bears on Fire.

I began studying the guitar and music theory at age 9 and started playing professionally by the age of fifteen. While obtaining my mechanical engineering degree I minored in classical guitar performance at Eastern Michigan University and later continued my music studies at the Center for Creative Studies and Mary Grove College in Detroit Michigan.

For the past 25 years I have been teaching guitar and bass in styles ranging from classical and jazz to rock and country. I currently perform professionally as a soloist and with two jazz ensembles locally and nationally. My experience as teacher and performer has given me the opportunity to provide a well rounded education and musical experience for my students.

Jim has played piano and keyboards for over 30 years. Classically trained at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Jim has performed in top-40 rock bands in New England to jazz bands in Tampa Bay. Jim plays keyboards for "Supernatural", a Santana tribute band and for a contemporary christian church called New Walk Church in Zephyrhills FL. Jim plays for a jazz trio called Quiet Fire and has a jazz duo with a vocalist where he uses his laptop computer and programs the drums and bass and plays along with it. Jim is fluent with modern keyboards, MIDI, recording and has a recording studio.
