About Jonathan

I started my musical education in a children'€™s choir at age 6.
When I turned 8 years old, I began piano lessons. I started violin
at 9 and trombone at 10. I am now proficient on the guitar, bass, and piano. Having completed my tour of duty in the U.S. Army, I am currently on the Dean'€™s list as a music/audio production major, and plan to continue my music education until I earn at least a masters in performance and composition. I started my teaching career at Milestones in Music, a local studio, as an independent contractor, where i was able to gain valuable experience and fine tune my curriculum. I am a member of the Grammy U Recording Academy, and have had opportunities to work with a lot of different musicians. (The Recording Academy is the organization that ...

Very Good Teacher

I took bass lessons with Jon last year, and it was truly a phenomenal experience! Jon worked with me on my level and really broke down music theory in a clear manner. He also was able to pinpoint the areas I needed the most work in, and then developed drills for me to use at home between lessons. His teaching style helped me develop from a below average bass player to a proficient level…in less than 6 months! I highly recommend Jon no matter your experience level.

About Mark

Learning music, especially at a young age, can have a positive impact in life. From simply playing music in the home to performing music for large audiences, the basic goal is the same: the enjoyment of being a proficient musician. I have written a bit about my experience and how I can use this to help you to become a great musician.
I began studying music when I was 8 years old. My early lessons taught me not only about music but about music teaching. As a result of these experiences, I vowed to teach students music that is meaningful to them.
Moving along, in high school I played in rock bands with my friends. I can never stress how important it is to play with other people. I always encourage my students to ...

Coming from a beginner-level guitar player who has previously taken guitar courses, Andrew's definitely extremely talented and, equally importantly, very insightful and understanding when it comes to teaching. He is patient, smart, draws good examples for understanding concepts, and is enjoyable to play alongside with.

andrew is a great teacher

i've been taking bass lessons from andrew for several years and have nothing but great things to say about his teaching abilities. he is organized yet flexible, allowing you to take the lessons the direction you want to take it. he can really connect to the way you think and channel that to advance your skills. my only complaint i don't see him enough, but that's my fault.

Great Instructor

Andrew went above and beyond what I ever expected. He did a great job of covering rudiments and technical aspects, while simultaneously focusing on the "art" of bass playing. He was very aware of my skill level and responsive to my needs as a student. I highly recommend him for beginners and imagine that he would be great for more skilled students as well

I work with logic x. I can help you with garageband as well.
Mic placement, mixing, and getting the right guitar tone are all areas I can assist you with.

About Nero

I have been teaching music for 16 years. I grew up on the 2nd floor of my father's music store in Central PA and have been around music my whole life. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of the Arts where I studied jazz guitar with Pat Martino, Jimmy Bruno, Steve Giordano, and Tom Giacabetti. I was one of the original teachers during the formative years at the Paul Green School of Rock Music where I later went on to be the Music Director of the Philadelphia and Downingtown Schools. During that time, I helped many students prepare and get accepted to music schools, ran and developed music summer camps, and organized concerts where the students performed the music of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and many more of rock's finest band at every ...

Mandolin Lessons

I recently started playing mandolin on my own - and decided to take lessons to make sure that my technique was correct. -- All I can say is that Nero is the best music teacher I have ever had - not to mention, a gifted musician. He makes learning fun, and his approach and patience allows you to easily pick up new techniques and skills. I hope to take lessons with Nero for a long time!!!!

My first Flamenco Guitar lesson

Had my first lesson with Nero. Nero was very patient and the lesson progressed at a comfortable pace. He didn't bombard me with too much information yet identified learning moments at relevant times during the session that increased the value of our time. I played clarinet for about 6 years over 17 years ago and haven't touched a musical instrument since so I feel like a beginner... He was sensitive to my inexperience and led with the session with a relaxing demeanor.

Overview of home recording techniques, mic placement, guitar choice, gear choice, setting up a harmonious home work space.

About Ryan

Born in raised on the south side of Chicago Illinois, I grew up listening to A LOT of great Chicago blues guitarists. After receiving my first acoustic guitar I quickly gravitated towards learning to play blues and blues rock guitar at the age of 13. As my hunger for knowledge grew, I began learning and studying other genres of music through private lessons and lesson videos in the styles of Progressive Rock, Shred, Funk, Fusion and Jazz. Music was a way for me to find structure, discipline, self worth and personal expression outside of the typical confines life provides. Through that I grew as a person and a musician. My sole reason for teaching is to help others find that passion and those qualities within themselves to live a beautiful and fulfilling life through his/her ...

I have been taking lessons with Ryan for the past three months and it has been a wonderful experience. Although Ryan has an incredible knowledge of music and how to play the guitar, he has easily and graciously adapted his teaching to fit me as a beginner. He is very patient and encouraging and always seems to be able to find things I have made progress in (when I tent to be more focused on things with which I am having difficulty). I like his big picture approach and the way he explains how the chords and scales and different positions relate to one another; I am learning music theory right alongside with learning how to play the guitar. He is always open to answering my questions and giving me further explanations and "tips" to help me with trouble spots. Ryan's easy going nature has taken the stress and temptation to "perform well" out of my lessons and has enabled me to relax and enjoy learning to play the guitar (which is the way it should be!).

Ryan has definitely opened up my perspective with regard to learning my instrument and "hearing" tonal options for music I like to play. I'm a working Dad with very limited time for lessons and practice, so an online learning platform has worked best for me. Ryan has been very accommodating and flexible. More than that, he's been extremely patient with my learning style. In addition to opening up my instrument for me, he's fostered a passion for learning guitar and a taste for new music that I may not have listened to/learned otherwise. I love music and because of Ryan, I've found a very heartfelt, almost tangible, passion for playing it. Ryan...thank you!!

I really enjoy taking lessons with Ryan and without equivocation consider him to be one of the best instructors I've had the privilege of working with. I am in my 40's and have taken many music lessons throughout the course of my life (piano, organ, guitar, sax, etc.). Being a musician our minds approach things in a very creative manner which can make learning new material challenging. Although we are all seeking the same end, different approaches need to be utilized to achieve that goal. Its clear after working with Ryan that he is very aware of these hurdles students face, most likely because he's experienced the same issues himself as a student and as a teaching professional. He clearly sets himself apart from other teachers by not forcing the same cookie-cutter approach on his students. Although we all need to understand, learn and apply fundamentals, which can be very mundane, Ryan has developed a very unique and creative approach that presents these ideas in a less cumbersome manner. An approach that at least to me seems easier to grasp and further put into practice. Ryan also understands we want to take what we learn and be able to apply it in a practical setting quickly. Let's face it...we want to play guitar and make music, not sound mechanical by playing scales. Ryan has developed a lesson plan that accomplishes all of these goals and does so in a very enjoyably, fun and rewarding way. Ryan has opened up a world to me that I never thought I would enjoy based on past lesson experiences. I am very thankful to have him as my instructor. He has totally blown away my privious conceptions of what a guitar instructor is and what they need to be to pass on that knowledge capital to their students.

Recording techniques, input and output, audio theory, plug-ins, compression, EQs, multi-tracking, noise reduction...

What's it all mean? What is it about?

I've recorded on many formats and programs over the years, from a pocket tape recorder, to a 4-track, to digital workstations, to PCs with everything from MIDI to USB to Firewire interfaces.

I have recorded drums, guitars, bass, vocals, keyboards, pianos, harmonica, clarinet, tap dancing... just to name a few.
I can show you how to get the most out of your equipment and how to master what to do effortlessly, without the dreaded "killing the vibe" once things get rolling.

I can show you how to pick out the right microphones, then where to place it, rig it, and take into account sound absorption/reflections. Noise reduction, isolation, gain, equalization, and theory can be discussed. I can help you find materials and even software to create a better recording environment.

I have been playing guitar for 18 years on and off again (key words: on and off again). I must say that I have been in a “stalemate” in terms of advancing my capabilities for the longest time. I have been playing the same main riff Def Leppard songs over and over for years… In addition, I had no grasp of musical theory whatsoever, with the exception of the very basic chord formations.

I recently saw Nathan perform at a local open mic night. I was so taken back by his seamless ability to flow up and down the fret board. He is one guitar virtuoso, to say the least. He made an announcement to the crowd that he gave guitar lessons. I was intrigued and inquired more after he performed.

Currently, I have taken half a dozen guitar lessons under the guidance of Nathan. He has taken my guitar work to a whole other level – somewhere I couldn't even imagine doing. I told him my goal is to “solo” more and he taught me just that.

Nathan started teaching me in the key of C and tied in the boring theory in an easy way to grasp. By the end of my first lesson, I grasped E Phrygian, G Mixolydian, D Dorian, etc. and how they all interweave together.
Nathan is a class A guitar teacher. Without reservation, I recommend Nathan as your guitar teacher. He is respectful and will teach you at “your” pace, which is something my previous teacher 18 years ago never did. Thumbs up, Nathan; looking forward to next week’s lesson. I have been practicing a lot and I owe that to you!!!!!!!

My daughter had been taking lessons at a local guitar school for over a year before we tried Takelessons.com and found Nathan. It was the best thing that could have happened for us. My daughter has a renewed passion for her guitar. Nathan has worked at her pace and gotten her excited about learning, again. He is super friendly and can keep up with my nine year olds' never ending questions. He is very patient with her and tries to work with her interests. I'm sure we will be using him for lessons for a long time to come.
