About Omar

I am musician and a visual artist who earned a Masters certification in Songwriting and Guitar from Berklee College of Music.

As an artist I have been featured on MTV, Rollingstone, BBC, NBC, VOA, ARY, Alt Press, LA times, documentaries and more. I have been playing guitar and recording music since childhood and a classically trained sitar player and Indian classical vocalist. I have my own band in which I play guitar and do vocals. I am a great teacher for someone who wants to write songs, or is into Indie, rock, pop, reggae, metal, hip hop, and electronica.

I love to answer questions and learn things I don't know, I know a good amount about guitar repair, improvised instrument building, how to buy a good instrument and not spend to ...

Totally successful lessons

I've been playing bass for literally decades, and when I needed to get my guitar playing up a level, I took lessons with Omar. Very useful overall, Omar knows his stuff and is excellent at communicating it. We were able to talk about chords, modes, improvisation and songwriting, covering everything I needed. I would recommend Omar highly.

Working with Omar is great. He is very knowledgeable about different styles of music and can teach songs or music theory very well. As a singer/preformer he can teach singing, songwriting, producing and performance. He is also very friendly and accommodating, all in all making him a well-rounded instructor I enjoy taking lessons from.

Excellent

I am an adult learner new to music lessons, and so was very anxious during my first violin session with Raycurt. I can't say enough about his professionalism and easy teaching style. We spoke prior to the meeting, and he told me what I needed to get started. More impressive, he showed up during a snowstorm! I highly recommend him.

I really enjoy taking piano lessons with Jessica. It had been 40 years since I took lessons (as a teenager). Jessica's manner as well as her knowledge and love of music is just what I was hoping to find in a teacher. Her ability to explain musical concepts and her thoughtful approach to teaching has far surpassed my expectations. She gives great constructive feedback and ensures that you understand what she is saying. She is very positive and patient. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons with her and recommend her strongly.

Sign up for classes with John. Just do it, and you won't regret it.

Whatever the opposite of musically-gifted is, that is what I am. I'm an adult beginner in the truest sense of the word - never read sheet music, couldn't hold a beat to save my life, and hadn't played an instrument. EVER. That's why I'm still amazed that I've learned to play a couple of simple songs after a few lessons with John - it's a great achievement on his part!

John has the patience of a saint and a great ability to teach. If I don't understand a concept or have difficulty contorting my fingers to hold a certain chord, he shows me a different way and can break it down to simpler terms. He's really a great teacher. On top of that, he's laid back, approachable, amiable, and very understanding of my busy work schedule. He makes sure I leave each lesson with enough homework to practice and gives me constructive criticism to work on my technique. Like another reviewer said, John is really worth his weight in gold!!

Brian R. Bethesda, MD

About Brian

I picked up my first pair of drumsticks when I was 10 years old. After a little bit of practice and hard work I've gone on to teach kids and adults the best instrument in the world! Some of my heroes include Steve Gadd, Carter Beauford, Buddy Rich, Gregg Bissonette, Dennis Chambers, and any drummer who can play left-handed. I have been in bands ranging in styles from rock to funk and currently enjoy playing in instrumental funk and pop-rock bands based here in DC. Whether it's an intimate club like IOTA in Arlington or a large venue like The Fillmore in Silver Spring, I love putting on a good show. While studying Audio/Radio at Emerson College in Boston, I played drums with funk-groove band SYM while honing my skills in audio engineering. It was in the studio, I fell in love ...

Professional Drum Teacher/Collaborator

I'm not a student, however I did play in a band in Boston with Brian for over 2 years. He was professional drummer and had a great attitude towards collaboration.

We recorded one EP at Emerson College, where Brian had an integral part in the mixing, production and of course recording.

I would recommend working with Brian!

B-rock

Brian and I shared the drum section together for several years in a local Northeast touring band. His technique and pursuit of the perfect beat were second to none. He's got a keen ear to tempo and brings unique flavors or different genres of music to the table which helped push the band in new directions.

I'd recommend Brian as a teacher based on his love and dedication to music coming from his college major to his hobbies, music and playing drums are a large part of B-rocks life.

Rock on brah.

Excellent Drummer

I have had the unique opportunity of playing in band with Brian for two years. Not only is he an incredibly technical drummer, he genuinely understands creativity and collaboration. He was also at forefront of recording one of our EP's back in '08, and it came out great! He made us sound much more professional than we were at the time. I haven't had him as a teacher, but would highly recommend him for anyone looking to learn both skill and creativity.
