Thank you Anne. I get the most from you that one should play piano with the body in a natural state. "Nature commended should be obeyed."

I think it is incredible that you keep learning new things!

Wish you all the best in the future.

Returning to fundamentals as an adult learner is very difficult and challenging but, at least in my case, very necessary. Annie has been a wonderful piano and voice teacher guiding me through this process - patient and kind, tolerant of my poor practice habits, and able to help me work on all aspects of my music. I would highly recommend her to any prospective student, and hope to continue working with her well into the future.

Go for it!

Being very experienced with teaching to both children and adults of all backgrounds and ambitions, Anne is a very skilled and smart teacher. Her pedagogy has obviously been refined over many years and is clever and efficient yet easy-going and painless. She mixes theory and more academic learning with ear-training, relying as well on your more natural instincts, in order to equip you with the varied skills of a complete musician. She really tailors the teaching to your specific goals and level, as well. All this in a very gentle, easy and genuinely caring way. And always with a smile. Just go for it!
Erin Q. Brighton, MA

About Erin

I'm a Berklee educated musician with ten year experience teaching ages two and up in the Boston area. Over the years, I've taught private and group lessons, have been the music director for various musicals, choirs and handbell groups, and have also spent time as a tutor and preschool teacher!

My teaching philosophy is a simple one: I believe everyone has music in them. Growing up, I had a lot of teachers who were strict, stubborn, and unhelpful. It's easy to crush a person's spirit when they open up to you musically, and it's been my goal to only foster and encourage people who are ready to start their musical journey. I form the lesson around YOU: what songs you want to learn, what goals you have for your music, and what aspects you want to learn.

Wonderful experience. I do semi-professional work as a cover band singer and lessons with Erin had an immediate positive impact on my performance and practice. Highly recommend.

Erin is light-hearted, fun, and professional all at the same time. She's a great teacher.

Erin has been my singing teacher for five one-hour lessons now. Because I was a beginner, we started with what is probably fairly basic stuff: voice warm-ups, learning my falsetto voice, proper breathing / breath control, proper pronunciation for certain words, and leaning to properly use my mouth. That being said, Erin somehow managed to both keep everything light-hearted and fun, while at the same time, actually getting me to learn what I’m doing and make real progress each lesson. We were also able to use a mix of things that she provided for me to sing, and songs that I brought to learn to sing. So I wasn’t just stuck learning things I didn’t really care to get good at singing. From Day 1 not only was I learning the technicalities of singing better, I was also just simply learning to sing a song that I already knew and loved (and just needed some help to sing better).

We’ve already gone over a couple of songs that I brought in and a couple that she thought I would be good at singing. She’ll give you tips on what to work on between lessons, and answer any questions you have.

Overall, this has been a great experience. And Erin really is a great teacher.

About Anna

I have a passion for training cellists to a high level of musicianship. I have mentored cellists from the first lesson through professional symphony auditions. I generally start beginners and children with the Suzuki Method. While there are many wonderful facets to the method, a main principal is simple: to nurture. We nurture infants to learn how to speak, walk, love- so then why not apply the same with learning music? More information can be found on the Suzuki Association of the Americas website.

Background on my cello career:

My formation as a cellist started early; from age four on the Suzuki Method. As a Colorado adolescent, I was a finalist for the Young Musician's Foundation and recorded several Colorado Public Radio broadcasts with the Colorado Young Chamber Players. ...

Aleksandra P. Watertown, MA

About Aleksandra

I am a Berklee graduate with over a decade of experience performing, composing, and teaching. Music has shaped my life, and I would love to see how it can shape yours. There is no limit to the profound joy of learning an instrument and expressing ones self through it, and you are never to young or to old to start! Everyone has different musical tastes, and strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to bring out your inner excellence by teaching to your learning style, and showing you how to play the music that YOU are passionate about. I am not interested in force feeding you songs or styles of music that you are not interested in. I strive to keep my students constantly motivated and enthused each lesson.

So many teachers make you take lessons from scratch to see how much you have learned and go over the material again with you to fix errors. It is so boring for me!!! I hate that. I'm sure it works for some people. I like to play my hardest song and then go from there instead! He did no for met. He caught on right away, exactly where I needed help. I didn't waste hours and hours of tedious lessons that I would quit rather than have to do that same material again! Also, he breaks things down that are very complicated, to easy to understand chunks and bits to make it easy.
