I have an MFA in Music Composition and Piano Performance from California Institute of the Arts and a BA in Music Composition from UC Santa Barbara. I have been playing the piano since the age of 7 and started composing as a teenager. I began teaching music in high school and quickly learned that providing musical knowledge is just as important as acquiring the skills it takes to be a musician. Studying with me will help you become a well-rounded musician with the ability to play the type of music you want to play. Constantly composing, film scoring, and performing, I'm a very active musician that works with classical musicians, rock musicians, and everything in between. I teach a variety of instruments and will cater lessons to your styles and interests. I'm also a recording artist ...
It has been said that music theory is the ear's hindsight. Music theory explains how music ticks, and is a wealth of information for songwriters to keep them from getting stuck, enhance their harmonic ideas and concepts, and answers why they decide on most harmonic decisions within a song, or why they choose to "break the rules" also!
I've been a songwriter since I was a teenager. I have been teaching music for almost as long. As a teacher, my joy comes from seeing a student realize they have grown, or discover something they now can do that they could not do before, and the confidence gained through their efforts with my guidance. I carry around the Beatles Pocket Reference Guide at all times and preach the gospel of their songwriting legacy to my students when necessary and whenever possible!! I equally love the mystery of the musical ear, and music theory, and how it all works together...I love purple. For all those who know me, I always match in whatever color spectrum I decide for that day, and I always have been that way. I believe in Angels on Earth, I searched for the Lochness Monster (No luck!!) I love ...

I studied AMEB music theory back home in Australia (Australian Musical Examination Board), all the way through until college where I studied a bachelor of performing arts. During my studies advanced theory was covered. As a performing musician playing in orchestras and other ensembles I've always maintained a high level of theory.
I improvise playing electronic violin with DJ's, this requires a broad theory knowledge. It is an instrumental skill when free styling.
I have taught music theory to up and coming music producers to hone their skills and become masters at production. My music has taken me all around the world, from Australia, to Europe and now the US, where I have been recently granted an extraordinary ability visa, recognizing me as one of the best performers from my home country. This allows me to teach and perform music in America.
I look forward to helping you on your musical journey, helping you grow as a musician while making it as enjoyable as possible.
I started my musical career at the age of 2, on the piano, shortly afterwards moving to the violin, and most recently, the viola. Earning the music scholarship at school for best classical musician, and later on the scholarship for best orchestral instrumentalist at the world renowned music conservatoire WAAPA (West Australia Academy of Performing Arts). Earning my first diploma (A.Mus.A) at age 14, my music has taken me all around the world. I've played such places as the Australian High Commission, Rheingoldhalle in Mannhein, Dvorak hall in Prague, Australian embassy in London, Disneyland in Paris, and the opening the Australian embassy in Berlin, all before the age of 18. I have played in trios, quartets, as a soloist, and many orchestral ensembles playing major concertos, ...

Greetings students! My name is Tyler, and I am a composer and pianist in the Los Angeles area. A very ambitious and motivated individual. As a college senior, I was one of the few distinguished graduates to receive simultaneous invitations to interview for my Master's at the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and NYU. I continued my education at the graduate level at Manhattan School, earning my Master's degree in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, I worked as a freelance composer and teacher. During this time, I received performances of my compositions with orchestras and ensembles all over the country.
