Khalil has had a life filled with music. His musical endeavors began at the age of six and since that time he has built mastery in the areas of piano, organ, drums, and saxophone. He sought formal music education at Elizabeth City University where he attended via a scholarship for his skills in rhythm. It was during this time that he strengthened his skills in percussion such as drums and piano. After matriculating Khalil went on to play for several well acclaimed artist and gospel groups throughout his career. He currently is a Director of Music and chief organist for a local church in the Washington Metro area. He specializes in Gospel, Contemporary Christian, Jazz, and R&B; however can play and train all genres of interest, including classical.

I believe everyone has the ability to sing … some better than others, of course, -- but regardless, I believe every voice can make a beautiful sound. I believe learning to sing requires team work: with the proper instruction and learning tools from me, the instructor, and with the dedication (practice, practice, practice) from you, the student, a well-rounded singer can emerge.

I began singing when I was five years old in church. I continued singing exclusively inspirational music until I was a teenager. At that time, in addition to the second soprano part I sang in a five-part harmony
a Capella (without instrumental accompaniment) Gospel group, I also sang in a couple of bands (Rhythm and Blues, and Jazz). My undergraduate studies were completed at the American University, where I majored in Communications (B.A.), and minored in Music, voice being my instrument. Steve is originally from the Binghamton, NY area and began studying drums at the age of 12 with local jazz musician Tony Monforte. He participated in the All State Orchestra and was placed on the Pro-Mark Honor Roll for young, up-and-coming drummers. Steve received a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY where he studied with Gordon Stout, Steve Brown, and Robert Bridge. He was selected to participate in the Henry Mancini Institute where he worked with some of the leading jazz, film, and classical musicians and composers from around the world including Terence Blanchard, Bud Shank, Christian McBride, and Jerry Goldsmith. He has also studied with Steve Houghton, Greg Fields, John Vidacovich, and Harold Jones.

I have been playing for about 35 years and teaching music and guitar for 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Classical guitar. I've taught at the University level and currently maintain a professional studio in Arlington, Virginia. I am very well versed in many different styles of music including, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical and Suzuki guitar. I've been teach Guitar and Bass for about 2 years now. I've recently been tutoring music theory for college level students. I like getting to know my students as I teach them. Not just for the sake of being able to teach you better. Being comfortable just hanging out before, during and, after a lesson makes the learning experience all that much better.
