Hillary T. Elma, NY

About Me

Hi, my name is Hillary and I am a singer, performer, and experienced voice teacher. I have over nine years of private and group voice teaching experience with students from ages 5-65, and over ten years of professional performing experience in the USA and internationally. I absolutely love teaching voice, and helping each student realize and develop their singing potential, while having fun along the way. I specialize in all types of singing repertoire and styles, and tailor lessons to each student's individual needs.

I graduated in 2014 with my Artist's Diploma in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Miami, and previously graduated with my Master's of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami in May of 2013, where I was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant. I received my Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance from Houghton College in Spring of 2011. I currently am also a church musician and soloist, and sing and gig professionally in the Miami area as well as in NYC. Most recently, I have begun working and singing in the Buffalo area as well, and have begun teaching voice lessons for a studio downtown. I am also a section leader and soprano soloist at a church downtown Buffalo as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a fun-loving and passionate teacher and my love for music and singing is engaging. I have extensive knowledge of repertoire and styles for all ages, and aim to create an inspiring lesson environment for my students to feel comfortable to learn and grow in our music together. Depending on the level and experience of the student, I always focus on the basics including breathing and posture. We then pick fun and varied music to sing that is age-appropriate, yet fun, and we will most likely be working on a few songs at once.

The first lesson with you, I will check in to see where you are already at in your vocal studies, and we will discuss your goals with singing, and what you are interested in singing. This helps me tailor the lessons to your needs and develop a direction of where we want to go. I will also ask you to sing a small part of a song you love and are comfortable with. This helps me develop a teaching plan to suit your voice and your needs. I want my students to feel comfortable in their lessons, in an honest and uplifting atmosphere.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The in-studio lessons are taught in a room with a piano, laptop for recording, music stand, seating, and a mirror. No pets. Parking is open and free.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They must have a piano or keyboard in the home, and preferably a music stand.

*** Specialties ***
Integrated approach to vocal teaching and Pedagogy... I believe in classical technique with varied voice repertoire and style- Classical, contemporary, pop, theater, jazz, etc.

Jacob F. Lancaster, NY

About Me

Music has been a crucial part of my life for nine years, and I have been taught by the best of the best. I have studied classical, jazz, and contemporary styles of playing, and I know the importance of each one in today's culture. I am a student of the craft, majoring in music in college while continuing private lessons in all of the instruments I play.

*** Lesson Details ***
In every lesson I teach I try to incorporate both technique and groove (feel). These are the most essential building blocks of all musical instruments and they assist in creating a better musician, not just a better instrumentalist. Although I try and bring something new every week, I cant promise that you will become the next Buddy Rich by your third lesson. I can, however promise that if you put forth the effort at home, lessons will become much easier, practicing will become fun, and your progress will be remarkable.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For trombone lessons I can bring my personal trombone and teaching materials, but I expect the student to have their own instrument, along with some note-taking materials.

For drum set lessons, I bring my own sticks, mallets, and brushes. I usually have extras for my students, but I prefer for them to have their own for practice purposes. I also bring my own teaching supplies (computer, practice pad, notebook with staff paper, etc.). I do ask that students have their own drum set, as lugging around a full kit can get pretty exhausting!

*** Specialties ***
For drum set, I specialize in contemporary styles, such as rock, pop, and related genres. For trombone, I teach classical, and put a lot of emphasis in technique.
