Learning music, especially at a young age, can have a positive impact in life. From simply playing music in the home to performing music for large audiences, the basic goal is the same: the enjoyment of being a proficient musician. I have written a bit about my experience and how I can use this to help you to become a great musician.
I began studying music when I was 8 years old. My early lessons taught me not only about music but about music teaching. As a result of these experiences, I vowed to teach students music that is meaningful to them.
Moving along, in high school I played in rock bands with my friends. I can never stress how important it is to play with other people. I always encourage my students to form bands, join music groups in school, or just find a friend to jam with. Not only does this raise the level of musicality, it is a great motivational tool.

I got my start in music early, banging away at the piano in my grandparents’ house as a child. Later, I began playing the viola in 3rd grade, and moved to the saxophone in 4th grade, playing that for the next seven years.

In high school, I picked up the bass guitar, and fell in love. Encouraged by my band director, orchestra director, and choral director, I expanded his repertoire into the double bass, bass clarinet, contra-bass clarinet, and even tuba for a year. I also sang tenor with the school’s chorus and madrigal choir. I graduated with honors and was the very first recipient of the Robert Woldin Music Award.

Accepted to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia on a Presidential Scholarship, I focused my studies on the art of jazz double bass for the next four years, studying under Howie Thompson and Micah Jones. Rob is a graduate of University of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Music Education.

At University of the Arts, Rob studied under Don Glanden, Justin Bineck, and Jeff Kern. Prior to attending University of the Arts, he studied jazz performance and piano under Bruce Williamson, Nicholas Brooks, and Milford Graves at Bennington College.

In addition to teaching, Rob is active as a pianist, composer, and has composed solo piano works influenced by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, and Ravel.

Rob's recent collaborations include KC Quilty, Yogyakarta's Finest, the Jesse-Bartlett Webber Quintet, the Reverent TJ McGlinchey Band, the PhilaPhunk, and Ton-Taun. He has served in leadership roles in UArts competition big bands, the Rick Kerber Tribute Ensemble and the Z Big Band.

I have been playing the bass for 7 years now. I started out in a Blues band, and made my way into playing other genres of music. I have played many different styles of music. I have played Jazz, Classical, Funk, Rock, Folk, Country, Reggae, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, R and B, Pop, And Musicals. I am now attending The University of The Arts. I am going into my Senior year. I major in Jazz performance, with a minor in Music Education. I am planning to go into the Music Education Grad program at The University. I also plan on being a middle school music teacher.

I am a jazz performance major concentrating on the upright bass at Temple University. Yet, I am also an equally qualified guitar player. I play folk rock, hard rock, funk, and a lot of jazz around the Philadelphia area. I have been playing music my whole life and one of the most important things for me is to share my musical knowledge and abilities with others. This is a concept that several of my fantastic teachers have passed on to me. Music is emotional and it would be nice if everyone was emotional about it. We might be Phillies fans, but we still understand the finer concepts of life. The following genres of music that I can cover are as follows:
