My name is Alex. I have a B.A. in Music Composition with a minor in music theory from Roosevelt University's CCPA. I have privately studied guitar for 10+ years and have studied piano with Glenna Sprague and Sevgi Giles. I am also highly competent in music history as well as electroacoustic music composition. I am very familiar with programs such as Pro Tools and Max/MSP. Aside from western music, I have been studying and performing Javanese Gamelan for over 4 years and have had the opportunity to study from Gamelan masters in Java, Indonesia such as Mas Midiyanto, Mas Joko Sutrisno, and Mas Darsono. I have also performed at various places such as Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, Chicago Cultural Center, and the Chicago Club. I have been commissioned by groups such as Friends of the Gamelan and Con Brio.

I have been playing guitar for 28 years, starting with Rock/Blues before studying both Classical and Jazz guitar in college. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1995. I am currently a guitar teacher in the NW Chicago suburbs and in Chicago currently with 35 students, teaching all ages, all levels and all styles. I have been teaching guitar and music off and on for the past 18+ years but in 2007 I decided to devote myself to teaching full time (yes, teaching guitar is my primary job!)...the best decision I have ever made!

My Story:

As a guitarist in my early years I spent much time reworking my technique and gaining insight in how guitar playing really works. My early struggles gave way to a solid knowledge of the guitar and music.

This was gained through no small part through my High School music teacher, through master classes of Manuel Lopez Ramos and Abel Carlevaro and others.

These master classes helped me in a big way to develop teaching systems and principles that can help anyone to learn guitar easier and more effectively.

You will gain from the knowledge of these world class guitarists and teachers which will help you to play better and more musical.

And from my musical background-of playing hundreds of songs and compositions of many styles and understanding of musical structure.

I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree, from Bard College, NY, where I also received the Claire Leonard Honors Scholarship, for excellence in Composition and Performance.

I have been playing, both Electric and Acoustic Guitar for 30 years. I have performed hundreds of times, solo, and with the many bands I've been in.

I have been Teaching Guitar, Bass etc., for almost 20 years. I have given over 3000 lessons in the last three years. Yes, I have a LOT of experience, and I use that vast experience to help you learn quickly and efficiently.

Bryan Albert makes a living as a teacher, concert guitarist, performance artist, transcriber, studio artist, and composer/arranger. In addition to his private guitar and piano studio, Bryan is currently on strings faculty at Sherwood at Columbia College. Past collaborators and patrons include Halcyon Theatre, Inaside Chicago Dance, Steppenwolf Theatre, Northwestern University, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Southport Performing Arts, Devonshire Cultural Center, and Court Theatre. Bryan's guitar style is operatic, influenced by rock, alternative, folk, blues, jazz, pop, punk, R&B, hip-hop, and metal.

I have seven years teaching experience. Of those seven, five of them have been in music stores wherein I taught students of all ages, musical interests and skill levels. My students have gone on to form rock bands of their own, compete in singer/songwriter contests and pick up other musical instruments all because of the musical interest/passion I have helped develop.

I am currently very involved in the local music scene. I am co-writing and co-producing a singer songwriter's debut album in Milwaukee and am producing my band's debut album. I have a modest, but very high quality studio setup and a lot of versatile gear to help me get the job done.

I taught at Richardson's Music Center for one year in 2004-2005. I then, taught at Music and Arts Center for four years after that in Tucson, Arizona. I began solely teaching privately to select students since 2009. I am now looking to expand my lesson roster with a more musical diverse student base.

I am a singer/songwriter based out of Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2008 with a degree in Vocal Performance and Theatre, I began performing on Cruise Ships with some fellow IU Straight No Chaser alums. I then switched over to perform as a solo guitarist/vocalist onboard the ships for 4 years. My dad was the choir director at our church for 30 years, which is where I got my start, and eventually I took over the youth choir programs and directed 3 choirs grades K-12. While my focus in college was classical vocal training, I was raised on musical theatre, and now write pop music. I believe there is a proper way to sing, and it can be applied to any and all voice styles. I have conducted seminars through Hart and Henry Talent Agency to help singers cross from more traditional musical theatre styles to the more current pop/rock musicals that are taking broadway by storm. Drawing from my 20 years of experience tinkering in the guitar kitchen, I teach guitar and music theory to students of all ages and abilities in the Chicagoland area. I received my Bachelor of Music degree in 2004 from Ithaca College in Upstate New York, where I studied Jazz and Classical guitar in addition to music theory, history, and recording.
Since graduating I have gone on to perform extensively in New York and Chicago, primarily in a genre pioneered by guitarist Django Reinhardt and called "Gypsy Jazz". I have also filled roles as lead guitarist in musical theatre pit bands, scored original music for films (including the Emmy Award-Winning documentary "100,000"), and taught hundreds of lessons in private, group, and workshop formats.
I teach electric as well as acoustic guitar playing in many different styles (ranging from Classic Rock, Blues, Funk, and Alternative, to Folk, Classical/Spanish, and Jazz).

I picked up the guitar when I was 16. Since then, I never stopped. Over the years, my passion for music and song writing have steadily increased. I study guys like Clapton and BB King and used their example to help increase my skill. I'm indebted to my former guitar teacher who is now a signed musician with songs on the radio.

My wife and I routinely write new songs, and we have a little recording studio at our home. This serves as a great way to polish our voices and musicianship (since the mic don't lie)!

While pursuing my Bachelor's degree in music composition, I began teaching guitar professionally at a lesson studio located in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing my degree I moved to Chicago to pursue my master's degree of the same subject. Since moving to Chicago, I have continued to teach guitar as well as serving as a graduate assistant at DePaul University's Music School. My Assistantship included duties such as tutoring undergraduates in music theory and music history. I believe my strong educational background and life long desire to learn more about music continues to make me a better teacher. In all I have taught guitar professionally for almost 10 years. I have had long term students as young as four years old and up to 65 years old. And although I have pursued serious Classical training for the past eight years, my roots are in Classic Rock from 60's-80's. I started playing music when my dad got me a guitar for Christmas when I was four years old. For years, I only knew how to play about five notes, but I had the most fun ever.

Today I know a lot more than those five notes -- and I'll make sure that you learn a lot more than five notes in a hurry -- but I still have just as much fun as I did then. I'm a teacher because I want to show you, and everybody else who is curious about music, that fun starts on your first day with the instrument and should continue forever. That's something that's far more important than whether or not you can lead a rock band, play a concerto, or go on international tour.

I've played guitar ever since that Christmas but most of my shows these days are on cello or electric bass. You can see me all over Chicago with different friends of mine, usually at coffee shops, art galleries, or music festivals.

Scott D. was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1967. He expressed a keen interest in music at an early age, and subsequently, began his studies with the clarinet, and percussion while performing in the school band. A short time after that, he decided guitar was going to be his instrument of choice, and began formal studies with blues man, Don Brown. After that, Scott moved on to study with session ace, Gary Blume. By the time we was 18, he began studies for what would be the first of his two degrees, at William Rainey Harper College. There he was mentored in both classical and jazz guitar under well known session player, and composer, Steven Suvada, and later continued with David Sussman, of the Lyric Opera in Chicago.
