Al P. (Martin Sexton-Powerman 5000-Lance Lopez-DYS) is a multi instrumentalist, educator, composer, producer, drummer-music director. Widely known as co founder-drummer for DreamWorks recording artist and multi platinum selling rock group Powerman 5000 (1990-02). His rock solid beats are deeply rooted in the long history of the art of drumming.

Bio:
Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pa. and educated at the prestigious Trinity College of Music, London (Pgh. center), Al served as external examiner teaching music theory and drums in private and ensemble settings at the U.S. center in Pittsburgh, Pa. from 1984-86 and further studies at Boston's Berklee College of Music, receiving a BM in Percussion Performance in 1992. Al is also a graduate of The Recording Workshop, Chillicothe, Ohio (music production & engineering program) Protools, Cubase, Reason, analog/digital recording techniques, editing, mixing, programming and sound design.

I started studying piano and singing from a very young age. I used to make my friends come over and watch me perform (karaoke style--before karaoke was big) when i was in the 4th grade. My greatest love is music, performing music, and sharing it with others. As a singer i have studied all types of music, but my favorite- and what i excell at- is opera.

I have taken private voice and piano lessons constantly since the age of 5, and have studied opera performance and music theory in college. I perform locally around the community as a singer, direct the church choir, and occassionally accompany soloists on the piano. I have taught private lessons in voice and piano for 5 years and i greatly enjoy the one on one experience of teaching private lessons.

Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!

In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!

I love teaching and feel that I have a gift for it. I have taught over 250 students - all ages, levels, and styles - who would describe me as a patient, consistent and authentic teacher who gets great results, while maintaining a positive, low pressure teaching environment. My teaching style is "student centered." I believe it is important for students to learn and understand music at their own pace and on there own terms in order to achieve the best results. It is my job to take every opportunity to encourage students' interests while providing them with the tools, skills and knowledge that will transform those interests into unlimited musical abilities.

I am very good with children and served as the Director (and guitar teacher) for the Salvation Army Creative Arts Program for Youth in Billings, MT. With 15 years performing and 8 years teaching experience under my belt, I am a focused teacher and musician who really enjoys seeing students achieve their goals and desires musically. I attended Arizona State University to better both my teaching and personal musical skills. I feel that there is something absolutely awesome about watching a student grow both musically and personally. I am a goal-oriented individual with a versatile background and a relaxed, "let's have fun while we learn" attitude. I believe music should always be fun and inspiring for everyone, no matter what skill level.
