About Benjamin

I am 25 years old, a San Diego native displaced on the East Coast for the past 13 years who is enjoying a career as a performer, writer, teacher, and student of music. Music is my world.

I have a masters degree in Studio Jazz Writing from the Frost School of Music in the University of Miami and bachelors degree in Jazz Performance from Temple University. My main instrument is bass but I have years of performance and teaching experience on piano and guitar as well. I have been teaching music in classes, camps, and privately for over 6 years. Two of those years were as an employee with TakeLessons. During that time I taught over 100 different students and averaged about 40 private students a week.

Amazing Guitar Teacher

I've had many guitar teachers for my son, who is 11 and has been playing since he was 8. Most of our previous lessons were private in-person lessons, so I was a little hesitant about Skype lessons. However, I can honestly say Ben is the best teacher my son has ever had. He is reliable, professional and respectful. Ben has a way of explaining difficult concepts so they are easily grasped. He is wonderful at catering lessons to the appropriate skill level so the student can advance as quickly as his capacity allows. Ben's enthusiasm for music is infectious. I'm very impressed and would highly recommend Ben as a teacher.

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play scales and as time goes on you'll be able to play classical and folk songs. I have a 14 year old who has had the privilege to have Susan teach him the tenor sax - and he has advanced remarkably in a short time! She has worked with him in music tastes, etc... The take lessons service has been easy to set up and utilize, too. I would HIGHLY recommend...Excellent instructor (and good location for Delaware County folks) You won't be disappointed!

Mary W. Medford, NJ

my youngest, Daniella , is 3. and Faith just turned 4. And I have three beginning seniors who chose this as their new retirement hobby! I currently teach out of 7 different method books (I so like the variety and find a specific method geared toward your specific needs.) Recitals and performances are very important to me, however not required. Even attending and observing can be very educational and motivating. Many of my students register for a longer lesson and combine voice and accompanying with their piano lesson. And you let me know of a song/piece you wish to learn and we can make that happen! Performances coming up include outdoor concert September 18 and a Halloween recital end of October....costumes encouraged!

Mary is very knowledgeable and personable. She gives excellent instruction and gentle correction in a way that makes you want to do your best in every aspect of the learning process. Mary is also very attentive to your needs and your development as a student. She knows when to allow for the errors that a beginner like myself will make, and when to present challenges that will push you, and show you that your skill and talent are growing. She also gives homework assignments that will help you grow your talent when you're in between lessons, which I really appreciate. I absolutely recommend Mary to anyone wishing to take music lessons!

Katy A. Philadelphia, PA

I offer piano lessons for beginners of all ages. I prefer using the Alfred books for children and younger players who are just starting out. For adults, there are a wide variety of books to choose from to best suit your musical goals. Once we have discussed your goals and I have a better understanding of your current level or ability, we can choose appropriate books and repertoire. Students can learn to read music and play classically, as well as learning more about theory, chords and scales, and learning to read chord charts and lead sheets. Students can also learn to play their favorite songs, and may even want to combine singing and playing. ***For combined lessons, I recommend signing up for at least 45 minutes, as it's hard to accomplish much in 30 minutes when you are trying to learn both***

Katy has been giving piano lessons to my twin 5-year old daughters. They were nervous about starting lessons, but Katy put them at ease right away. She has a wonderful manner with young children. My daughters have progressed more quickly than I expected they would. They enjoy practicing on their own too, because they want to impress her! I am so thrilled that we found her.

I began studying piano at the age of eight and took privately for the next ten years. I accompany for all of my private students still and practice all the time. I am fluent in a general technique for piano and can help beginner and intermediate students. I also have taken some jazz piano and can teach basic jazz fundamentals to anyone who is interested.
