My name is Phillip D. E., and I am a very fun loving, caring, and interactive music teacher in the metro-Atlanta area. I love the art of teaching music and making references to life, art, poetry, plays, and relationships. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Musice Education from Southern University with additional graduate work in Piano Performance at the University of West Georgia. I have been teaching and playing the piano professionally for over 22 years and it is my absolute passion. I teach all musical styles which range from religious, rhythm and blues, jazz, rock, pop, and classical. I look forward to enriching your lives whether your goal is to become a concert pianist or merely to play for your own personal enjoyment. I have worked with all ages from 5 to about 80 years old. I really appreciate your consideration and I look forward to helping you discover the musical genius in you.
Piano, Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice
Since I finished graduate school in 2010, I've regularly performed and taught throughout the Metro Atlanta area. As a singer, I've performed with the Atlanta Opera in productions of Lucia di Lammermoor, The Golden Ticket, and Carmen. I also sing as a paid soloist at Decatur Presbyterian Church. In the past I've also sung with the award-winning Atlanta Sacred Choral, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Peach State Opera (Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro), Valdosta State University Opera (Masetto in Don Giovanni), and in 2011 I made my professional theater debut as the young opera singer in The Last Romance.
As a music instructor, my students regularly take Superior and Excellent in the National Federation of Music Club's festivals and consistently receive A ratings at Piano Guild competitions. My voice students have sung leading roles in their high school musicals; highly placed in school talent shows; and are praised for their performances in music school recitals.
Bass Guitar, Guitar, Classical Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Songwriting
I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music.
Piano, Music Theory
I started taking piano lessons at the age of eight under the instruction of Robert Wilson before switching to Rosaline Saunders Music Studio. I play by ear, but also read music. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. My purpose is to create well rounded musicians, who can play all genres of music, and who will also know how to set the atmosphere with their music. I love teaching piano and I love teaching all ages. I began teaching piano in 2003 before becoming the founder of The Master's Hands Music Studio in 2004. My greatest joy is seeing the knowledge and gift of music passed to others that was afforded me by the sacrifice of my late parents.
Piano, Violin, Music Performance, Music Theory
Music is my passion, my hobby, my career and my gift. I have been performing since age 7 and teaching for the last 25 years. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in music and love to share my knowledge and experience with all ages and aptitudes - even special needs. My approach to teaching is fun but serious, laid-back but encouraging, demanding but forgiving. I teach students how to be disciplined with their practice and how to make the most of their limited time.
Piano, Music Theory, Songwriting
I have taught beginning and intermediate piano lessons for four years. Past students have included those as young as five and and old as...well, I was too polite to ask. I started out my teaching career by volunteering to teach free piano lessons to Minneapolis inner-city school children through the University I was attending at the time. It was a wonderful experience that allowed me to discover a vocation I enjoy very much.
My musical education consists of the following:
• Ten years, including at the University level with Peter Shu – piano prodigy from Hong Kong.
• Theory and Technique.
• Improv. Playing.
• Accompaniment Training.
• Songwriting and Composition.
• Recital and Performance Experience.
• Five years, including at the University level with Krista Palmquist – a Dale Warland Singer, as well as with Vocal Coach, Tamara Anderson, of Chicago, IL – coach to several Dove Award winners and Grammy contenders, as well as American Idol Contestants from the 2008 season, and judge for the McDonalds Idol Competition.
• Performance Preparation.
• Exposure to singing in multiple genres and languages.
• Choral Concerts, Recitals, and other Performance Experience.
• Three years of instruction.
• Technique, Theory, and Performance Preparation.
• Recital and Concert Experience.
Outside of traditional music education, I have an AAS in Audio Production/Engineering from The Institute of Production and Recording (Minneapolis). I have performed in bands (keys and vocals), and even started a youth worship band for the church I was attending at the time - a band that is still running today! I have experience in recording music, songwriting, and doing sound for live shows. I have even had the chance to collaborate with my brother (a 3-D animator) on an animated short where I created the entire soundtrack and effects track, and then mixed and mastered them.
