My love affair with music began in his childhood home in Israel, surrounded by European classical music and opera. When the 1960’s pop revolution started to filter onto Israeli radio from England, Sarel became captivated with the simplicity and lyricism of the Beatles. In 1989 Sarel began his jazz education at Berklee College of Music, where he began an intensive collaboration with Jerry Bergonzi, who encouraged and honed Sarel’s improvisational skills. I began to step out professionally while still a student, soloing in concerts with The Boston Afro-American Artist Association Festival and at the Lawrence and Alma Berk Recital Hall. As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet.
