Because bass is most often not a solo instrument, I place an emphasis on playing with other musicians. Knowing how to read TAB's and Chord Charts are important and I help with this while making it fun and inspiring. I often say that bass is the easiest instrument to learn, but like all instruments, it is challenging to become very good. This is a terrific instrument for people who more anything want to be a part of a group but don't have a lot of musical experience. At the same time, if you want to be very good, there are many feels and techniques that I give you to be successful.
I hold a Music and English degree from Hamline University, but that doesn't make me a good teacher. I've played professionally for over 25 years, have taught English as a Second Language, Hockey and Audio Engineering, taught people age 5 to 75, and have taught private music lessons full time in Minneapolis for the past 9 years, but this doesn't make me a good teacher. What makes me a good teacher is that I have an infectious love of music and a passionate commitment to helping people. I do have specialties, like helping singer/songwriters develop their lyrics, arrangements, voice, and performance as well as helping artists get through creativity blocks, stage fright and preparing for studio recording. My experience as a producer, studio musician and audio engineer has ...
I've been playing bass since 2003, tackling everything from metal to jazz to chamber orchestral & band music. When teaching bass, I like to cover as many areas as I can to ensure my students are as well-rounded as they would like to be (& then some). We will discuss proper bass techniques, writing walking bass lines, reading chord changes, how to achieve good bass tones & gear, etc.

Playing the bass is my main love when it comes to music. It was the first instrument I learned. Students will quickly find that I am passionate about teaching it.
My name is Beau. The bass guitar is a great passion of mine and I am excited to share my knowledge and experience with others. I am eager to teach as well as continue my own personal journey as a musician. Initially self-taught, I attended McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN where I earned a degree in Bass Performance studying under Terry Burns, Gary Raynor, Jay Young, Jeff Bailey, and Charles Fletcher.
I have been performing professionally in various original and cover/variety/wedding bands for over 6 years. I also have extensive studio performance experience constructing and recording bass lines of many different styles. My band, The Fontanelles, have been successfully writing, recording, and performing original music in the Twin Cities for the last three ...
