About Me

Hailing from Connecticut, Janelle has come to make her mark in the dance world of New York City. As a recent graduate of New York University, Janelle has focused her attention on the arts. Not only has she begun to choreograph for such artists as Kitana Blade and such groups as MAD dance, she is a dancer herself, having performed in numerous PMT Seasonal Showcases, Alvin Ailey Student Showcases and many other venues throughout the city.

She has gone from being a student at New York University to being an adjunct professor where her classes range from Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Stepping to African and Kathak dancing. Her life is "Dancing gives my life substance while teaching gives my life purpose."

She always looks forward to teaching new students and will welcome anyone in every class with a smile and a knack for instilling what she knows to those who participate.

When taking class with me I look for the students to show as much effort as possible! A lot of fun will be had as I too love to dance and participate with my students, laugh and enjoy our time together. Each class or session will begin with an extensive warm up as to avoid injury and then from there we will proceed into choreography that focuses on a specific skill set we are looking to achieve for that day. After 3-6 months of working with me I'd expect the students to be able to 1.) be creative and comfortable in themselves to utilize the movement that has been taught in previous sessions 2.) execute the movements properly and 3.) enjoy the progress that they have made and to be able to notice it themselves

About Me

I am a certified music therapist (MT-BC); vocal instructor (BS in Classical Voice); certified yoga instructor (200+); certified and attuned Reiki master; professional freelance editor; meditation guide. I am a person who finds joy in a variety of places, and I truly love what I do.

Music therapy has afforded me a great deal of experience working with children, teens, and adults with special needs including, autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances and developmental delays.

As a voice teacher, I want to help my students settle comfortably into their own musicality by showing them the building blocks of a solid technique, drawing particularly from the things that helped me grow as a vocalist. I want my students to feel strong in their body, comfortable and relaxed in their breath, and confident in their performance.

I have worked professionally as an editor of scholarly writing on both the college and post-college level, as well as a professional editor of multiple dissertations, and other publications. Being a creative person, I find language to be a wonderful way to express thoughts and emotions as well as communicate deeply with others.

As a certified yoga instructor, I teach in many locations throughout Westchester. I was trained at Yoga Haven in Scarsdale, New York with Betsy Kase, and earned a 200-hour certificate in Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. I offer private yoga instruction and meditation at my home studio. My studio comes fully equipped with all yoga props, aromatherapy, and music. Hands-on-assists and personalized classes offered to deepen your experience.

It is a joy to offer Reiki to curious, open clients in need of energy healing. Reiki is a noninvasive energy healing technique totally separate of any religious affiliation and available to anyone. It is a difficult to describe the relaxing, soothing, and deep-healing effects of Reiki to someone who has never experienced. I recommend a trial for those curious with, as you know, a money-back guarantee!

(For lessons and instruction, I am now only accepting children 8 years of age or older. For music therapy and Reiki I work with children as young as 9 months old and up).

**If you don't see a time slot that is suitable to your needs but would like to try a session or lesson with me, feel free to register for the Flex Plan, and we will work out week-to-week times!!**

About Me

Hey guys! I have a passion for Musical Theatre and all that comes with the wonderful art form--acting, singing, dancing, and doing all three at the same time :). I'™m here to help my students grow, just like my teachers have helped me.
I love helping students activate their songs, monologues, and scenes in ways they never thought possible. I have a knack for getting my students to tell their stories in a strong, direct way. I focus on using the words the lyricist or playwright has given achieve the character'™s objective (and consequently, grip the audience's attention). However, that'™s all the delicious whipped cream and frosting at the top of the cake. In order to create an arc in a song, a character with an objective, and a human being fighting for something, we need to get in touch with the instruments we are using: our voice, our body, and our mind.
Focusing our mind on presence is the key to accessing an open body. Without presence, we aren't in our bodies. Our minds race, the inner critic judges, and we can go through a whole lesson (or performance!) without actually having witnessed our creative expression. Once we can focus our mind, we begin focusing our body. We make choices, or in most cases, our bodies make the choices for us, while we sit back and allow the expression to develop organically. And it can only develop organically when we are fully present. In order to become present, I use exercises borrowed from a number of body, mind, and voice techniques: meditation, yoga, and Fitzmaurice work, mainly.
Then we can start with the voice. I love helping students find new sounds, range, and texture to their voices. To do this, I use basic exercises that emphasize a number of skills we need to hone: open vowels, forward/nasal placement, palatal alignment, and using the lighter mechanism of our voice we so often want to ignore. Once our body, voice, and mind are aligned, we are ready to tackle the song, scene, monologue, or dance combination we are working on in our lesson.
Let's do it!

I love teaching and performing equally and find a unique joy in bringing the joy of the arts to another person's life. Piano Teaching Experience and Philosophy:

For the past eight years I have maintained a studio of up to 20 students of all ages and abilities. I focus my teaching on elementary through early intermediate study, establishing a firm foundation in technique, theory, aural skills, musicality, and music appreciation. My goal for every beginning student is to foster a love of music and build the skills for disciplined practicing. I believe that regardless of other abilities, these two skills will enable any student to be an active and engaged musician throughout their life. To this end I teach a highly personalized private lesson, drawing heavily from a student’s musical interests and maintaining solid accountability for their independent work during the week. Although I usually base my teaching in Faber’s “Piano Adventures” series, I am very familiar with other popular methods and cater the books I use to the individual student. In addition to a method book base, I am comfortable supplementing my training with theory, history, guided listening and aural training. I have taught students of every age and aptitude including students with tendencies towards ADD, OCD and ADHD and am also comfortable working with those who have autism or Asperger's syndrome. I am a passionate teacher and firmly believe that every human being has the right to experience music. My pedagogical training includes observational hours at the university level and a workshop with Randall Faber of the “Piano Adventures” method book series.

Flute Teaching Experience and Philosophy:

Prior to and in conjunction with my performance degree I have taught flute privately since 2008. A conservatory level course in flute pedagogy with Suzanne Jordheim has greatly influenced my teaching and has allowed me the opportunity to work under the observation of the best private music teacher I have ever known. Since my work with Ms. Jordheim, my students have consistently won high honors in school and regional bands and orchestras as well as at state performance competitions. I focus my beginning students towards tone development, disciplined practicing, a relaxed posture and rhythmic integrity. I am comfortable teaching beginning through advanced flute students.

About Me

Zachary M. was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY.
