Amanda has worked with people of all ages, from young to old, as counselor, mentor, advocate and instructor. She began by teaching preschool and school-aged children, and has worked with developmentally disabled adults across a spectrum of ages and disorders to reach their goals of completing higher education and attaining paying and satisfying professions. Most recently, Amanda has worked with adults who became addicted to drugs to end their relationship with drugs and alcohol and not only regain housing and find jobs, but also pursue and complete higher educational degrees. Amanda graduated from Oakland University of Rochester, Michigan, in 2008 with a degree in Psychology.

I had a real hard time learning guitar when I was growing up because of an accident to my left arm, but I wanted to play so much that I was able to overcome it. I have been playing drums since I was 10 years old. I loved playing drums so much that it became my life work. I was so advanced at an early age that I began giving lessons and teaching drum line when I was 13. I joined my first professional rock band at 15, and I have been playing and teaching music ever since.
I was fortunate to play in one the worlds top drum and bugle corps, the Santa Clara Vanguard, I also studied Jazz from the area's top jazz drummer, Dick Carlo, who was a student of Joe Morello. My technique is a unique combination of Jazz, Orchestral, and Rudimental styles. The luckiest part of my education was that I went to Lynbrook High School, which had the top concert band in the California. This is where I learned to play concert and orchestra music, and I learned about style, and musicianship.

I am a guitarist and songwriter currently living in Oregon. I graduated from Western Oregon University majoring in music, specifically pursuing the Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music with a dual emphasis in composition/songwriting and guitar performance. I played with the Singer/Songwriter combo for most all of my college career, and emerged as one of its most valuable members. I have my math degrees from Wellesley College and Florida State University, taught classes as a grad student at FSU, and have done tutoring through the local community college as well as on an individual basis. Depending on how the student feels about math, I either try to challenge them to expand their abilities, or give them confidence in their ability to tackle math problems. The beauty of a one-on-one tutor is that lessons can be adapted to what the student needs.

My music education began with formality in Classical music. I became a professional musician very early in life, at about age 18. I gained valuable knowledge and understanding in the "real world", through experience and from fellow musicians. Along the way I continued my studies, learning music theory which, combined with my experience, gives me a very broad understanding of many musical styles - because I have played them professionally and understand them from the inside out.

I've been educated in jazz performance at Portland State University, I've studied classical voice for several years with a Julliard alum, and I have years of experience performing jazz, rock, and a little of everything else.

I break into song before my feet touch the floor -- make a detour by the piano on the way to the shower. Starting my day with music almost guarantees that my day is more productive and is filled with joy.

My musical life started when I was 4 when my dad started teaching me piano. I played woodwind instruments from 5th grade through college. I started voice lessons when I was 16 (and wanted to get into the top high school choir). And then, at age 60, I asked myself what I most wanted to be excellent at, what would carry me through the rest of my life. I chose piano and found a top-notch teacher who took me back to square one and changed my musical life. Then--a few years later, I found a top-notch voice teacher who taught me to breathe, taught me to speak . . . and changed my life once more.
