Eva M. Louisville, KY

Subjects Taught

Opera Voice, Singing, Speaking Voice

About Me

Simply stated, music is my life! I began piano lessons at age 8, and voice lessons at age 12. I am a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville. While at Y.P.A.S. I majored in Voice, and traveled with the Concert Choir performing in Canada, Austria, Germany, and at the 2001 United States Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.

I then went on to the University of Louisville, where I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. While at U of L, I was awarded the Charme Von Bomhard Award for the most promising voice student in the area of opera. Also during my time at U of L I performed with the prestigious Cardinal Singers, with whom I toured extensively in Germany, and was featured at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan. I have also sang with the Kentucky Opera in performances of Puccini's Tosca and Madame Butterfly.

I have had the opportunity to sing at many venues and with various groups throughout the Louisville Metro area. I perform music in a wide variety of styles and genres, including rock, pop, classical, soul, musical theater, and jazz. I have been lucky enough to perform with local rock groups like Smooth Blvd. and The Deloreans, and I am also a regularly featured soloist with Louisville's own Derby City Brass Band, the Rascals of Ragtyme, and the Paul Davis Quartet.

As you can see I have a great deal of experience and expertise in many areas, and I look forward to sharing all of this and more with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
As your private teacher, I can promise you a fun and very rewarding experience - smiles and laughter are guaranteed! My number one goal for each of my students is to foster confidence in one's self and one's abilities, and to grow one's skills in and passion for music. As I appreciate and expect that each student's goals and interests in music will be different, I approach each student and their lessons accordingly. Whether my students are young or old; whether they view voice lessons as a just-for-fun hobby; or whether they wish to pursue a serious music career - I am happy to facilitate all of this and more, as we work together to reach their goals.

My musical foundation is one based on proper vocal technique and strong musicianship skills. It is this firm foundation which has given me the ability to excel not only in opera, but in a variety of other genres. I bring this approach to my lessons with my students. I seek to give each student a firm technical foundation, in proper posture, breathing, vocal production, as well as in musicianship skills including music notation and reading, basic music theory, and more. As students master these techniques, I will also work to help them find their own voice and their own means of expression. We will explore standard classical vocal literature as well as music that fulfills the students interests and goals. Each of my students will be able to sing and perform in a way that is not only natural and unique to them, but in a way which is also healthy and technically sound.

About Me

Much emphasis is given to improving typical problems that most singers have; to include but not limited to posture, proper breathing, tonal quality (in all ranges), technique; such as diction for singing. Work on developing upper register is employed, as well as a solid tonal quality in mid and lower ranges. Vocal exercises will be tailored for each individual. Most of the pedagogical training will be from the Bel Canto (Italian school, translated: Beautiful Singing)
school of music. However other schools of singing may also be employed, such as the German, French, and English schools. It all depends on what type of voice we are dealing with. Many types of voices exist, for example. Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Alto, Soprano, and
within each voice range there are different types of voices. For example: the tenor voice (which is the most difficult voice to master), can be of a leggiero quality; which is one of the lighter
sounding of the tenor voices. The most popular tenor voice is of a lyric quality. Luccino Pavarotti was a lyric tenor. The lyric tenor voice is the most common tenor voice. The agility of the leggiero and lyric voice is much quicker than that of the Dramatic tenor. Next is the spinto vocal quality. It is the type of voice which still has much agility like the lyric voice type, but loudness which is more related to the dramatic tenor (the most powerful tenor voice).

There is so very much to consider when training even the newest singer. I employ methods from leading pedagogy teachers; such as Richard Miller, Manuel Garcia, and Barbara Dosher to mention a few. Vocal science is also employed. I don’t usually tell the student every little technique that is being employed because it can sometimes be more of a distraction than benefit. My pedagogical background is an extensive one.

That being said, even teacher’s that understand the above mentioned material may not possess the ability to spot and treat problems. So many things need to be considered; even with head
position, musculature being used when producing different sounds in different ranges.

Andrew K. Louisville, KY

Subjects Taught

Acting, Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Mandolin, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Percussion, Piano, Singing, Songwriting, Speaking Voice

About Me

I started playing piano when I was 8. I started writing compositions around 9. Since I was singing in the choir, I began to fuse piano and singing, until I wrote my first song with words when I was twelve. Along the way I learned guitar, bass, drums, and various forms of composition and recording techniques. I toured with my band The Navigators for several years and I have had compositions of mine in TV shows like "The Unit" and in the documentary "Dreamriders" as well as various independent films. Along the way I have taught every age group from six months of age up to adult.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm not a big fan of the "one-size fits all" teaching method. I prefer the "snowflake" approach- every student is different. Some just want to learn to play guitar to play their girlfriend a few songs- others want to dedicate their lives to being a musician. I can help them both, but I'll go about it differently. What a student accomplishes is determined by their motivation, discipline and passion. My job is to amplify their motivation, refine their discipline and direct their passion. I like to think of myself as a sherpa- the student has to climb the mountain themselves, but I'll be there to help guide them along the path.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Electric 88 weighted keys; guitars (electric & acoustic); cables/amp; I also have recording gear for students interested in making recordings of their performances.

*** Specialties ***
I have extensive experience in the pop field. Genres include folk, pop, rock. I have composed music for film and television, so I am strongest in composition. I have taught other subjects in every age range from 6 months to 18 years of age.

Stacy M. Louisville, KY

Subjects Taught

Broadway Singing, Classical Voice, Country Singing, Musical Theater, Singing

About Me

Music has been a part of my life since birth. My entire family is musical and includes some seasoned performers in country and gospel genres. I grew up singing southern gospel, country and bluegrass. I earned both a Bachelor and a Master of Arts degree in vocal/choral music from Campbellsville University, touring around the U.S. and Europe with various vocal ensembles. I have been giving private vocal instruction for the last 10 years.

In college, I studied classical opera technique and Broadway style singing (my coach lived and worked professionally on Broadway for 10 years). I consider myself, first and foremost a technician, striving to firmly ground my students in proper vocal technique so they may obtain optimum quality from their individual vocal instrument, while also working to build and expand repertoire in the genre most beneficial to the student.
