I am an enthusiastic musician with a talent for teaching. I have worked as a voice and piano teacher in Seattle for eight years. I was employed at The West Side Music Academy for over three years and am currently working on a Bachelors in Music Education at Seattle Pacific University. I am a huge believer in being a lifelong student! I have continued my music education throughout my adult life and have studied Jazz, Opera, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Blues, Soul, and Folk. As a pianist I began individual instruction at age 14, and have studied Jazz with Darius Willrich, Ryan Burns, Dan Kramlich and Mark Samson.
I began singing and playing piano at age 5. I have been involved in school and church choirs including The Total Experience Gospel Choir, Seattle Pacific University Women's Choir, and The Spokane Area Children's Chorus. Musical productions include Grease, Once Upon a Mattress, Chicago, and Les Miserables. I have been a featured soloist in ensembles throughout my life. I also performed in the Jazz Ensemble at Seattle Central Community College for three years as a vocalist and pianist.
I have an extensive background as a performer in small and large bands in the Seattle area. I have played in various venues throughout the area including Benaroya Hall, McCall Hall, Tula's Nightclub, and the Nectar Lounge to name a few. I have also worked as a studio musician with various electronic music producers and bands.
I also study and teach West African dance and have traveled to Guinea, Conakry to study dance and music with Les Ballets African a premier African dance ensemble that tours the world. I also spent the summer of 2012 working with a non-profit organization in Chiapas, Mexico teaching music and dance to kids k-12 in the Indigenous Village of Ignacio Allende.

As your teacher I can help you thrive in music. I promise to provide a fun learning experience with lots of laughs and smiles. My number one goal is to help build a love and passion for music and boost student's confidence. I understand and appreciate different levels of experience and make sure to cater the lesson to the individual. Whether my students are young or old; whether they view voice or piano lessons as a just-for-fun hobby; or whether they wish to pursue a serious music career - I am happy to facilitate all of this and more, as we work together to reach their goals.
My musical foundation is one built on proper technique and strong musicianship skills. Students will learn proper posturing, breathing, and vocal production- in addition to reading and music notation, music theory and more. As students master these techniques I will work to help them bring out their own voice and creative expression. We will explore music from a variety of genres including Jazz, Classical, Pop/Rock, and more. Each of my students will be able to perform in ways that are not only healthy and technically sound but unique to them.
*** Studio Equipment ***
In the studio I have an acoustic upright piano, shakers, tambourines, and a library of music books. The studio is also used for dance lessons and has hardwood floors and mirrors. There is also a waiting room area for parents to sit and listen in during lessons.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide books, metronome, and keyboard stand. Students are expected to have a piano or keyboard.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Jazz, Classical, Pop, Rock, RnB, and Broadway style singing. I use an eclectic approach to teaching.
Jenn is an instructor of musical theatre and theatre movement. She has worked with youth of all ages in a variety of creative disciplines ranging from voice, dance, and scene study. She believes in the teaching philosophy that EVERYONE has creative potential, and strives to nurture the performer in all people - no matter what age - in a fun and light-hearted approach!

First and foremost, I want my students to be comfortable expressing themselves. Since theatre and dance are all about creative expression, I want to help each and every student I have to learn first how to breathe and relax into their body and listen to it.
I ask that my students come with a willing and positive attitude, ready to play, laugh, and enjoy moving!
In turn, I promise that I will do my best to help you to learn the skills and techniques to help you develop yourself as a theatre artist or dancer. Everyone has the potential - some of us just don't know it yet!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I have voice lesson books and a CD player I can provide to voice students - it would be ideal if vocal students would provide a piano or keyboard. Acting and dance students will need lots of space for movement and character work.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in theatre movement and musical theatre. I am especially fond of Anne Bogart's Viewpoints, Laban Movement Analysis, and the Michael Chekov actor method - especially the Psychological Gesture.
Hello! Thanks for checking out my page! My name is Krista, and I'm a musical theatre actress and teacher. I grew up in Renton and attended the University of Washington, where I earned my BA in Theatre and a minor in Education. Since then, I have gone on to perform in many of Seattle's best theatres, including Seattle Musical Theatre, Lyric Light Opera, At the Ridge Theatre, Second Story Repertory, and The 5th Avenue. I love performing and believe that there is nothing like being onstage and making an audience feel something through your performance!
I have been teaching for many years at various theatre intensives and summer camps and currently teach dance, acting, and voice at two schools in the Renton area. I love people and love interacting with all ages! It is a joy to be able to pass on skills that bring me so much happiness to those who are younger or just entering the exciting world of performance! I especially enjoy doing one-on-one audition prep to make sure that that monologue or song you are going to try out with is in solid shape!
Please contact me to let me know what kind of training you are looking for (whether it be a focus on dance, audition prep, voice, etc.), and we can talk about what our lessons would entail and how I could help to best meet your interests. Looking forward to hearing from you!
