I absolutely love to teach, but not just because of my love for the drums or my life-long appreciation of music, but because of my enjoyment of people and the learning process itself. I feel that this is important to mention, because if I didn’t enjoy what I did and take pride in working with people, then my teaching skills, curriculum, and experience would mean nothing. As anybody who has played a musical instrument can attest to, learning something new is difficult, and having a patient teacher who enjoys working with people is mandatory.

Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to study with some amazing teachers, including Carmine Appice (author of “Realistic Rock” and drummer for Rod Stewart, Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Jeff Beck), Jason Lingle (Berklee School Of Music), Keith Harris (drummer for The Black Eyed Peas) and Lee Nichols, to name a few. I bring a dynamic and multifaceted perspective to the creative exploration of the percussive arts, with over 40 years of diverse musical experience which includes performing with Nigerian master drummer Francis Awe’s Talking Drum Ensemble, competing to top international honors with the Misty Isle Pipe Band, ensembles large and small covering music in a wide range of genres, as well as extended experience in solo accompaniment for modern dance and performance art. I have performed with renowned musicians such as Dave Holland, Albert Mangelsdorf, Bobby Bradford, Fred Katz, Lee Konitz, Don Thompson, Ralph Alessi, Vinny Golia, Karl Denson, Kei Akagi, among many others.

I am so excited to meet you! I have been performing ever since I can remember, doing talent shows, plays, musical theatre, and even television and film. Music has always been that quiet hum underneath all the noise that life brings. I began coaching vocalists and actors when I was attending Brigham Young University, studying Communications and Music. I found a new love of producing as I have directed and produced multiple musical showcases here in the USA, as well as in some parts of Europe. I have been able to see how the power of music changes lives, and you will experience that too!

I am a piano teacher with BA in Music from Odessa State Academy of Music, Ukraine. Currently I live and work in Cypress, Orange County. Each student is going to progress at a different pace. I believe that all students can thrive in a learning environment that is stimulating, comforting and appropriate to their abilities. Music Lessons improve the mind, body and spirit. Also child development studies prove that Music Lessons improve school performance and grades. As I teach piano to my younger students, I look to help them develop life skills through music. For my older students I aspire to reduce stress in their lives. Regardless of age I work very hard to improve all of my student’s memory, brain function, and coordination and most importantly teach them how to simply have fun! I think that teacher requires the qualities of leadership, compassion, flexibility, humor and above all an ability to communicate at a level the student understands.

I have played piano since I was young. I studied piano at CSU Long Beach where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a certificate in Music Therapy. I have since worked as a Music Therapist. My style of teaching is supportive and patient. I would look at the needs of each student and guide them at their own pace.

Music has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old, when my father would record my brother and I singing. I always loved singing and learned many of my favorite songs as a child.

I started playing the trumpet in the 4th grade, which has led me all the way to receiving my degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education! I was lucky enough to attend one of the nation's top music schools, The Peabody Institute, and I now work toward my Master's degree at California State University, Long Beach. I have enjoyed performing in everything from big-band-lead to principal trumpet in the orchestra, leading brass quintets and brass ensembles, and much more! The trumpet has been a huge passion for as long as I can remember now!

While I was learning songs as a child, I decided I wanted to join a band! Now here we are 10 years later and I've have the fortune of performing as a lead singer in bands across the country, and let me tell you there is no bigger thrill than getting...

1. Your lesson will always be geared toward what YOU want to learn, and if it seems like we are working on something that doesn't match that, I will always take the time to make clear why what we are doing will have you be able to play what you want.
2. You already have every skill you need to be a great performer, and my job is just to steer the ship in the right direction to have that happen. All I am ever doing in a lesson is making sure that we are moving you in the ultimate direction that you want to be going musically.
3. I will do everything I know how to do to make sure that what I have learned that will benefit you becomes something you have mastered. If I could take the "computer chip" in my head and put it in yours, we would do that. Study with me and you will get the next best thing!

As a simple introduction, my name is Roy and I have been a musician and music teacher for over 35 years. Guitar is my principle instrument, although I also teach bass, beginning keyboards and drums.
Starting with my first piano lessons and continuing into college, I studied classical music, musicianship, ear training, and theory. After many years performing in bands and recording music I progressed to jazz theory, sight reading, and improvisation at Dick Grove’s Jazz Workshop in Studio City. I teach all ages and all styles of music including blues, rock, jazz, country, folk, finger-picking, technique, musicianship, ear training, theory, and important tips when playing with others.

Hey hows it going ? My name is Greg but many call me simply "g" -- I have 30+ years playing guitar and 10+ years coaching & teaching beginner skill levels. If you are advance level , or close to advance, then you need to think about Musicians Institute level faculty to progress... as I do best with beginner skill levels. I focus on blues and rock content, because that's what I enjoy and that's what my band plays. Acoustic or electric guitar are fine, and when you come to my studio in Bixby Knolls section of Long Beach, you will see I offer plenty of room and great environment to relax and learn. If you do not have a guitar, I can provide for lessons. I also produce Guitar Lesson DVDs and jam-along CDs under the brand GuitarDVD Pro....and GuitarCD Pro...and these are available as effective optional tool to support the in-person lessons.

I love being a teacher, but even more than just that, I thoroughly enjoy assisting others on their journey to learning and making music a personal experience for themselves.

PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

Each student who comes to me is an individual. I customize each lesson, keeping in mind the student’s level of interest, goals, and intent. I put great care into judging when to push, when to pull back, and when to stop altogether and regroup.

Sometimes there is frustration and as a teacher it is very important to take that experience and turn it into a positive learning situation. During the course of a lesson, we’ll take a "breather" and simply talk about the day, or work on material that is enjoyable and instills a sense of self-confidence —anything to release the tension of acquiring a new language-the musical language. I have been a student of the drums myself for 17 years. I started like many musicians have, learning to play a musical instrument in the school band. I picked up some drum sticks and haven't put them down since. My favorite styles of music are funk and rock. I have studied orchestral drumming, drumset, and music theory for 2 years at the collegiate level. I have taken several private lessons with well renown drummers and clinicians. Ranging from Dom Famularo and Phil Maturano, to Evan Stone and Dave Elitch. Please take the time to look them up and take in their amazing playing abilities.
