I started playing the drumset at age 12, and have been playing for 20 years, and teaching for 5 years. My drum playing covers many different styles including Rock, Jazz, Funk, Punk, and my favorite, Progressive Rock. Soon after I started playing drums, I played in my high school jazz band, orchestra, and marching band. I have been playing ever since and still love it 'til this day.

Some of my favorite drummers range from Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Carter Beauford, Travis Barker to Neil Peart.

People have told me that I am my biggest critic, and therefore, I am always trying to find ways to improve and reinvent my style and approach to playing and teaching drums.

I have been studying music for eight years now. Having come to music rather later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I’ve completed my Bachelors degree in Music, and have taught privately to several students.
To me, music is above all about transformation; yes, beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, but learning an instrument transforms the very way a student learns. Learning to play an instrument is an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused, training is applicable to anything.
I also believe that playing music should be fun and cathartic.

Roland R was born and raised in New York City. He started playing drums at the ripe age of 12. Throughout his schooling, Roland was a member of Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, and Drum Corps. He eventually started to explore playing music outside of school with friends and independent musicians around New York City. Roland's teaching "career" started about 7 years ago, when his baby cousins took an interest in banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons. His interest in helping others develop their ability to express themselves eventually evolved into in-studio lessons with children and adults of all skill levels. In college, I was the recipient of the first Ralph V. Ritchie Memorial Music Scholarship at Nassau Community College.
As a member of several original bands, musical projects and solo performance acts, I've played the piano/keyboard, wrote music/lyrics, sang lead and backup vocals or did a combination of the above.
